Include any other important details 4th The next two weeks in the content area center students will be researching a famous African American and creating a PowerPoint about their achievements and their life as well as reading read aloud about Jackie Robinson and Ruby Bridges and completing activities. Gr.K As a Gr.K team we have been integrating Black History Month in our Language Arts block. We focused on mainly inventors like George Washington Carver and Garrett Morgan. This week we are learning about Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks. Most of the K teachers sent home a Black History Month research project. Each child was given a person to research with their family. They were asked to write about what the person did and one interesting fact about that person. You can see the work displayed outside in the hallway. 4th We are reading the autobiography of Ruby Bridges, and then the students will write an essay of what it was like to be an G&T African American child in 1960 integrating into southern white schools that were fighting the integration all the way to the supreme court. They will have to research on their own about the that started the movement that led to Ruby Bridges and other students to be the first elementary school students to endure this. 3rd The class is doing research on an African American that has impacted history in a positive way and presenting. 3rd Room 213 has started individual biographies on a person of their choice. In 2 weeks students will be doing a presentation on their person. Gr.K K has been reading about famous African , some sent home projects to do at home and I have a bulletin board of our favorites Gr.K My students had a project to do at home. They picked an African American, dead or alive, and had to answer questions about them. They had to say who it was, what they were or are famous for and then draw or paste a picture of them. is currently hanging in the hallway outside of my room. 3rd We are reading various biographies about and have done a Unit/project on MLK Jr. & Children also watched movie My Friend Martin Gr.K We have been implementing interdisciplinary lessons into our reading and writing blocks from the beginning of Feb. We have been teaching about notable African Americans & inventors of all races as well. The students are going to be handing in a final poster project focusing on a particular person we assign to them. All materials will be given to each child along with a printed picture of their person. Students are required to perform the research at home or will be given the opportunity to complete it in class if they do not have the means to retrieve the information at home. Posters are Due at the end of the month. Gr.1 Research on Rosa Parks, Borrack Obama, and MLK through Read Aloud, station work, and short videos Gr.2 Scholastic Research on Rosa Parks and the story of her life and what she stood for.
