THDSH-KIT (02/13) Pre-Installation Upon receipt of the Model THDSH-1872 Discharge Line Thermostat Kit, carefully check the contents of the Kit prior to starting the installation process. The components are listed in the following table:

DESCRIPTION QUANTITY Discharge Thermostat 1 Thermal Compound Mini-Pac 1

The Compressor Discharge Line Thermostat can be applied to all EarthLinked® space heating and cooling compressor units from 1.5 through 6 Tons.

The discharge thermostat is a sensing safety device that turns power off when the compressor discharge temperature exceeds 240°F. It is a bi-metal clip-on type with manual reset. If the discharge thermostat activates and turns power off, it can be reset by depressing the red button as shown in Figure 1. Power to the EarthLinked® compressor unit must be reset also for start-up. Installation

IMPORTANT! READ THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS COMPLETELY BEFORE PROCEEDING TO INSTALL!

THDSH-KIT (02/13) Page 3 IMPORTANT! THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE LINE THERMOSTAT SHALL BE LOCATED AND INSTALLED ON THE COMPRESSOR DISCHARGE LINE SIX (6) INCHES UPSTREAM FROM THE REVERSING !

To install, clip the Discharge Thermostat on to the ½” OD copper tubing, relative to the , as shown in Figure 1. The thermostat may be turned or adjusted on the tubing to accommodate the wiring connections. If the compressor unit is a SW Series, install the Discharge Thermostat on the compressor discharge line before the three-way valve.

WARNING BEFORE ELECTRICALLY CONNECTING THE DISCHARGE THERMOSTAT TO THIS CIRCUIT, BE SURE LINE AND CONTROL ARE ZERO. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

Next, connect and the Discharge Thermostat into the low voltage protection circuit in series between the high and low pressure . Remove the two connecting the high and low pressure switches and electrically connect the Discharge Thermostat into that circuit in series with the high and low pressure switches as illustrated schematically in Figure 2. The details of making these electrical connections follow, beginning on page 6.

Figure 2. Discharge Thermostat Wiring Schematic

THDSH-KIT (02/13) Page 5 To low voltage protection circuit wiring illustrated in Figure 3 shows the existing connections for the high and low pressure switches. Cut the butt connectors off of the wires connecting low and high pressure switches. Strip the insulation back on each wire to reinstall the same type of butt connectors just removed on each wire – one brown (or black) wire and one blue wire. Add enough 16 gauge wire to connect to the newly installed Discharge Thermostat terminals and use insulated female connectors to terminate. Connect the brown (or black) wire to one of the terminals on the Discharge Thermostat, and the blue wire to the other terminal. This completes the series circuit as shown schematically in Figure 2 and with the insulated female terminations shown in Figure 4.

Figure 4. Installed Discharge Thermostat Showing Final Wiring After wiring terminations have been made as shown in Figure 4, apply a liberal amount of thermal compound to the face of the Discharge Thermostat and the copper tubing that it contacts. Do not apply thermal compound to the electrical terminals! Check all wiring connections and ensure correct wiring and good electrical contact. Replace the compressor cabinet cover before restoring power to all EarthLinked® system components.
