Overview

Purpose of the Game

The objective of the Dell EMC VR Playground is two-fold: 1) Engage people about VR and ensure Dell continues to lead on this topic. 2) Get sales teams and customers to engage with our commercial client portfolio in a fun way.

The game is designed to be challenging so that people want to engage with it multiple times. It’s also designed to generate a bit of competition between sales makers to drive increased engagement.

The game consists of multiple levels, each designed to focus on a unique aspect of the commercial portfolio that that floor represents i.e. size and mounting options for OptiPlex, customer workflow for Precision, and portability for Latitude. We have chosen to use a modern skyscraper as our setting so that we can showcase the full range of modern office set ups as the basis behind our levels. The other benefit is that we have been able to utilize a wide range of Dell Products these office environments, creating a living breathing Dell fueled world.

Target audience

Our Target audience for the games are:

• Sales associates (usually aged between 20-35) amongst Channel Partners at on-site floor days Channel Partner Customers at events run by the channel partner.

Available Modes

We have two options available, Stand Alone and Event Mode. Standalone allows the users to play each level through and does not capture their name or store a score.

Event mode allows for a user’s name and company to be taken and for a score to be generated from the game. It then populates a leader board which displays user’s results. This is used in conjunction with an online admin that allows event organisers to register and enable users of the VR Playground.

Levels: The current levels available to play are:

• Optiplex • Precision • Latitude

Optiplex

With this level the user has to find 5 OptiPlex Micros in their 5 different mounting configurations, and tap them with the controller to collect them. The location in the office of these 5 OptiPlex Micros is randomised so users do not get the same experience each time they play.

Users have 90 seconds to complete this task.

Precision

This level guides the user through designing, building and launching a Dell robot - showcasing the precision design capabilities. The user is pulled into a precision laptop where a dot to dot of the robot awaits them. Once completed (using their trigger to pull the yellow orbs into place) they press a red button waiting for them on the stand and a 3D robot appears. They will then need to place the arms and head into position and then press the blue button to return to the office and “launch” the robot by tapping the keyboard of their Precision laptop.

Users will have 2 minutes to complete this task.

Latitude

The Latitude level takes the user to the top of our office skyscraper, to a rooftop Maze. Our User is challenged to enter the maze and find the four value propositions and exit the maze within the time limit. These value proposition orbs are: Express Charge, Small and Light, Intel V Pro and Pro Support. Once collected they exit out of the maze to the “Office Everywhere”.

The Maze layout and where the orbs are positioned changes so that users queuing to have a go, and those doing it more than once, are presented with a new challenge each time.

Users will have 2 minutes to complete this task.

Game interactions

There are currently three styles of interactions in the levels utilising the touch, trigger and touchpad on the controller. All other controller buttons are redundant and should not be pressed. Touch Touch is where you tap the item in question with your controller in the VR environment. This works across all levels with touching the button in the lift, or the 86 inch screen to start the game.

Trigger

The trigger is on the front of the controller, and falls under your forefinger. These need to be held to start the game and are used in the Precision level to pick up items and move them.

Touchpad

The touchpad allows you to teleport around the space in all levels. Simply hold the pad down, then point and aim at the space on the floor you would like to move to (a blue dot appears there), and release the touchpad to complete the move.

Events

Staffing recommendations

For every VR Rig (one VR head set, Workstation running VR Application, Laptop/Workstation Running Lobby Screen, Laptop/Workstation Running High Score Screen, Laptop/Workstation Running Admin Screen) we would recommend 2 event staff, one running the admin screen and one guiding users through the VR experience.

However, if you have 2 Rigs you will only need 3 people as one person can comfortably run the VR Admin for both rigs.

We would recommend that at least one person is comfortable in running windows updates or administering technical troubleshooting in case any technical requirements arise.

Recommended Event Kit

We would recommend having the following with you when running the event:

• Sanitising Hand Gel. • Sanitising wipes (you will need to regularly wipe the front of the headset as the sensors can get dirty after a lot of handling). • Cloth Glasses Wipes for the headset lenses. • Black electrical tape for covering the Microsoft buttons on the controllers. • White electrical tape or masking tape (for marking out areas if necessary).

Other things to be aware of:

• Event lighting- if it is quite dark the headset can struggle to track, make sure you have nice even lighting. • Windows Mixed Reality portal can go into standby mode if left for a while and will need the area re traced out with the headset once woken up again. If its due to quieter traffic and not a break, we recommend picking up the headset and moving it around every 5-10 minutes or so. This stops the portal going to sleep. • Headset tracking works better with more static objects in the immediate vicinity (but outside of the play area) to help track the real world.

Audio Usage

When using the audio in event scenarios there are three options;

• Over the head headphones plugged into the headphone jack located on the headset itself. The benefit is clear audio from the game however the downside is that it is difficult to for them to hear event staff giving instructions.

Internal Use - Confidential 13 | P a g e

• Playing audio from the Workstation. Good option if it’s a smaller event as everyone watching can hear. However, it can become difficult to hear the instructions the larger the event. This option also lacks immersion for the user. • Do without audio and event staff give all instructions. Gives event staff more control but loses sense of peril at the end due to lack of audio countdown. This option also lacks immersion for the user.

Troubleshooting

Please see below a few common little issues that can arise:

• User has pressed the windows button and have come out of the game and into the Microsoft waiting room: o If you have a confident user they will be able to go to the Menu within the waiting room and select the Dell VR Playground under the app drop down. o If the user is not confident the best thing to do is shut down the Mixed Reality Portal and start it up again. o Prior to the event we recommend covering the windows buttons on the controller with electrical tape to help prevent users pressing it. • Cable Tangle o While the user is using the game, we recommend holding the cable so that they can avoid getting tangled. o If you are understaffed or unable to hold the cable we suggest taping it to one of their shoulders so that they keep the cable behind them. o If it has become tangled, unplug from the workstation, straighten and reset the user.
