Birkenhead City 5 1 3 1 49 1203 31.28 Whilst we are the only unbeaten team, bonus points are crucial to positioning on the Leader Board – bowling @ 0.20 for each wicket taken and 0.01 for each run scored – hence us languishing in 4th place. Not all is lost – after the Round Robin is concluded, on 13 February, the top teams play off. However, we will need to tighten out game if we are to retain the Hedley Howarth Trophy – it will not be easy to make up the deficet of almost 8 points on East Coast Bays. The next games, against bottom of the table Birkenhead and then East Coast Bay who are on top, are exceptionally important. Cricket Express T20 Plate Competition Wednesday, 13 January ELLERSLIE vs. PARNELL Michaels Avenue 1a. PARNELL 196/6 (20) George Harper jnr 100 (55), Jesse Simpson 53 (37), M Newman 3/37 (4) ELLERSLIE 148/9 (20) D de Silva 54 (27), Dave Goddard 4 0 19 1 Ganesh Ratnasabapathy 2 0 8 2 Henry King 4 0 44 0 Mike Ravlic 4 0 28 1 Tom Hills 3 0 23 3 Jesse Simpson 3 0 26 2 RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 48 RUNS George Harper set the game alight with an extraordinary innings of very sensible hitting and, with Jesse, set up an unassailable total for Parnell. Earlier, the game was moved to Michaels Avenue at the last minute due to Orakei being flooded overnight by a burst water pipe. Ellerslie lost several wickets early – Ganesh being particularly effective – but their tail restored some respectability and clobbered some illdirected bowling. However, the result was never in doubt and Parnell came out the very decisive winner. Wednesday, 20 January PARNELL vs. HOWICK PAKURANGA Orakei Domain HOWICK PAKURANGA 108/9 (20) L Winn 37 Dave Goddard 4 1 4 0 Ganesh Ratnasabapathy 4 1 18 3 Tom Urry 2 0 24 0 Razin Bharde 3 0 15 1 Tom Hills 4 0 24 2 Henry King 3 0 22 1 PARNELL 110/2 (20) George Harper jnr 61 (36), Jesse Simpson 34 (18), RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 8 WICKETS Very decisive wins over Ellerslie and Howick Pakuranga – George Harper’s batting has been the stand out feature, a century off only 55 balls and then a sparkling 61*. Jesse, too, has been in superb and consistent form. The bowlers have all performed well – the figures speak for themselves. And, just as important if not more so, the fielding has been excellent with some brilliant catches taken. T20 Plate Final – Parnell vs. Eden Roskill Provisional – Tuesday, 2nd February, 5.30pm at Shore Road Reserve Premier Reserves Reports are lacking and Results Vault needs updating. However the rumour mill indicates that whilst the Reserves won on the 9th, last weekend was a disaster going down to Kumeu on the 16th and Auckland University on the 17th. The latter game was lost by just 1 wicket – our batting failed dismally despite recruiting Mark Turner who has been awol for 4 seasons. “Turns” was just settling in when he middled his top edge and was comfortably caught on the mid wicket boundary. 6/66 on the board grew to 131 thanks to Billy Sanger and the tail but, despite Razin putting in a superb performance in taking a 6 for with his offies, AUCC scraped home with one wicket in hand. Batsmen – in future, please, pull your weight, don’t leave everything to the bowlers! Full details in the next issue. Thirds – 2B Grade 16 January PARNELL vs. KUMEU Kumeu Domain KUMEU 135 Parnell bowling: Joe Grey 7 ? 44 0 Mike Gedye 4 3 1 0 Gavin Poole 9 ? 24 2 Peter Hickman 7 ? 16 4 Hamish McLean 7 ? 17 2 Elliot Humphries 7 ? 21 2 PARNELL 136/6 Tom Landrigan 51, Kelly Lunow-Haldane 29, Sam Wilson 16* RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 4 WICKETS Skipper Pete reports: On Saturday the Thirds travelled to Kumeu, a strong side sitting 4th on the table. Losing the loss and being put into bowl, the opening bowlers had an economical, but wicketless spell before Gavin Poole and Peter Hickman came on a took 3 wickets, leaving Kumeu 60 for 3 at drinks. After drinks, Hamish Mclean and Elliot Humpries combined for a 14 over spell, both finishing with 2 wickets each, and only 48 runs conceded. After the second drinks break, Peter Hickman cleaned up the rest of the batting order, Kumeu finishing all out for 135. The batting effort was lead from the front in the form of Thomas Landrigan, who finished on 51. Other contributors were Kelly Lunow-Haldane who finished on 29 and Sam Wilson who has a successful debut, finishing the innings off with 16*. 17 January PARNELL vs. NORTH SHORE Orakei Domain NORTH SHORE 43 (21) Parnell bowling: Mohan Wali 6 ? 22 4 Peter Hickman 6 ? 8 4 Satpal Uppal 4 ? 5 0 Gavin Poole 5 ? 7 2 PARNELL 44/0 ( 6) Tom Landrigan 9*, Kelly Lunow-Haldane 27* RESULT: PARNELL WON BY 10 WICKETS The 2nd match on Sunday was against North Shore, unfortunately there isn’t much to report on this due to an emphatic win. Winning the loss and electing to bowl, opening bowlers Mohan Wali and Peter Hickman both finished with 4 wickets each, Gavin Poole took the other two wickets, leaving them all out for 43. Satpal Uppal also made a solid contribution, an economical spell, but without a wicket. A solid effort by all. In response the 43 runs was chased down in 6 overs without the loss of wickets. Thomas Landrigan finished 9 no, Kelly Lunow-Haldane 27 no. A solid win for the team, nothing that they didn’t deserve.
