// Anne Heide Mogensen Side 1 af 123 Anne Heide Mogensen Speciale – Historiens demokratisering 02/06/2020 Studienummer: 20 15 33 39 Aalborg Universitet Vejleder: Poul Duedahl Abstract In this thesis I set out to examine how Danish historians in the years between 2010-2020 convey Danish women´s history, which channels they use and what potential the combination of historians and social media have. I use Lasswells´ communication model as the method throughout and frame for the thesis since it´s a communication model that considers all parts of a communication situation. Lasswells´ communication model is as follows: Who says what in which channel to whom with what effect. A later addition was made with feedback. To find out what research there has been made about women´s history – not only in Denmark – I have looked towards American historians. More specifically I have implemented the theories of Nancy F. Cott, Elisabeth Fox-Genovese, Joan W. Scott and Joan Kelly-Gadol who all centers around women´s history. I have applied their theory upon the works of the Danish historians in the years between 2010-2020. The main thesis the American historians have in common is that they believe America is further ahead with conferences solely on women´s history for an example and that the history of European women is still incoherent and unstructured. Through my work with this thesis I have found this to be true in the case of the history of Danish women. Even though there are several good works on Danish women´s history done by brilliant historians, these stand isolated and doesn´t create a coherent and structured history that one could hope for. I have also applied theory about remembrance from The Collective Memory Reader. I have found that all of the Danish historians have in common that they include men, when they´re relevant and they all, except historian Birgitte Possing, more or less use social media to convey their work with Danish women´s history. However, their work also differs in a lot of ways. For an example Dorthe Chakravarty has a norm-critical approach, Possing uses anthropology to do a cultural history scan, Gry Jexen conveys through small portraits of women in history without including women´s private life and the Women´s museum focuses on sex and gender instead of women. I find that the potential of the combination of historians and social media can change the narrative in Danish women´s history. It has the potential to do so through a three-step rocket, where conveying history on social media can 1) activate history awareness, 2) create demands on history and 3) result in restructuring of the history teaching.
