John was called to be an Apostle by our Lord in the first year of His public minis- try. He is also considered , John of Patmos and the Beloved . John's older was St. James the Great, another one of Jesus' Twelve Apostles. John is believed to be the longest living apostle and the only not to die a mar- tyr's death. John and Peter were the only two apostles sent by Jesus to make preparations for The Last Supper. During the meal, St. John sat next to Jesus, leaning on him rather than lying along the couches. John was the only one of the Twelve Apostles who did not forsake the Savior in the hour of His Passion. He stood faithfully at the cross when the Savior made him the guardian of His Mother. After the , John went to Ephesus, according to Church tradition. He later became banished by the Roman authorities to the Holy Hour, Rosary, Quiet Prayer, Music, Greek Island of Patmos; this is where he allegedly Teaching & Discussion followed by wrote the . If you watch the evening news or read the daily paper, you are quite well aware that the spread of the COVID19 virus has been on the increase In New Jersey M especially in Camden and Gloucester Counties. At the same time all of us are tired of dealing with the COVID19 protocols. However, your continued vigilance is both requested and expected.

Every day the Bishop’s Office receives numerous calls from parishes asking what they are to do because someone has test- ed positive for COVID19. The answer is to follow the protocols that you have been given M the three “Ws” are essential M wash your hands/use hand sanitizer, wear a mask and watch your distance. These protocols are to be followed not only for Masses and other liturgical activities but also in rectories and for meetings (now restricted to not more than ten people). People are also asked to selfmonitor. If they don’t feel well they should be reminded to not come to work or to participate in the celebration of the Mass.

If these protocols are enforced and someone tests positive for COVID19, no action is required on the part of the parish. The County Health Departments, when notified that an individual is positive, will handle the proper notifications and trac- ing. If you are NOT following these protocols in your parish office, school or church M you will need to notify those who were in close proximity (less than six feet) without wearing masks and for more than 20 minutes.

The Bishop has directed any parishioner who contacts his office, complaining that protocols are not being followed, to con- tact their County Health Department and the Office of the Governor, as diocesan protocols have been clearly stated. Priests, deacons and Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist are reminded that they are not permitted to distribute the Eu- charist unless they are wearing a mask and/or face shield.

Again, vigilance is paramount as we approach Christmas since no one wants a second shut down.
