INCAS: UN POPOLO, UN NOME Th e Incas’ extraordinary degree of civilization and the refi ned management techniques they adopted make their culture very similar to the values laid down in our company’s mission statement

When we hear the word “Incas”, the fi rst thing that comes to mind is usually the natural and architectural wonders of pre-Columbian Peru. Th e allure of this land and its civilization greatly aroused the interest of our com- pany’s founders right from its inception, so much so they decided to adopt the name. Th e reason becomes clear if we focus our attention on certain characteri- stics of the Incas, who are in some respects still mysterious and fascinating. Th e Inca civilization, whose origins are still being studied, gave rise to one of the INCAS: largest empires in pre-Columbian America. Th e administration of such a vast ter- ritory, which was the gradual result of the inclusion of numerous ethnic groups, required the development of a specifi c management system. Th is system had to be able to keep tabs on local communities and govern them according to principles SAME NAME of redistribution and mutuality to ensure all the peoples of the empire developed uniformly. Th e Incas created one of the most effi cient bureaucratic machines in history. It was SAME AIMS quick and eff ective, and did not suff er from the paralysis caused by the corruption typical of bureaucracy. Th e offi cials of this well administered empire normally used a quipu, which is a tool made from a set of knotted strings, spaced out systematically and tied to a shorter thicker supporting cord. It works in a way reminiscent of the binary logic of modern day computers. Most of the information conveyed by quipus was numerical, therefore they were used for census-related calculations and administrative records. However quipus were also used to keep account of the amount of food in the wa- rehouses, which is the function on which our Easystor WMS is based. Th e Incas’ eff ective organization and logical thinking, as well as the attention they paid to the uniform continuous growth of the empire they governed and their ex- traordinary degree of civilization, make them the ideal representatives of a system of values that fully refl ects our company’s mission and ethics.
