This is the number of times the batter reached base as the result of an error by the opposing team. These are written as “E-# (of the position the player made the error)”. Please note: that if a ground ball goes through the shortstops legs or touches any part of any players glove that is Safe On Error SOE. Not a single or if it gets past the and it shouldn’t have.

If a fielding error occurs such as; ball goes through the legs of a player, the ball touches the players glove on a routine ground ball, fly ball or throw, both players stop going for the ball cause they think the other one will get it and it should have been caught, or the ball pops our of a glove for no reason, (if the ball was hit extremely hard that’s a reason, that’s not a routine play), then the batter reaches on error SOE and does not get a 1B, 2B, 3B or homerun for the at bat.

Fielding Stats Description

INN This is the total number of innings that this player played at that position. It doesn’t matter if the player did anything at that position, just that he or she was there. If they played multiple positions, then you would enter the appropriate inning counts for each position. Players may only play partial innings, and this is indicated by the decimal point. The decimal part shows how many outs there were when the player switched. If a player switched at the beginning of the fourth inning, before any outs were made, he played 4.0 innings. If there was one out, he played 4.1, if there were 2 outs, then he played 4.2 innings.

PO This is the total number of outs that this player got an opposing player out. These come from fly outs (F9 and SF9), unassisted plays (U3), and being the last person to touch the ball on an assisted play (6-3 is a for the first baseman).

A Assists This is the total number of assists made by the player. An happens when the player handled the ball but didn’t directly get anyone out. For example, in a 6-4 play, a grounder is hit to the shortstop that throws to the second baseman for the out. The shortstop (6) gets an assist and the second baseman (4) gets the putout.

E Errors This is the total number of errors committed by the player. Count 1 for every time you see his or her position number with an E next to it. An error is when a player should have made a routine play and didn’t make it. The glove touches the ball but they don’t come up with it, the ball pops out of the glove, they over throw the teammate while trying to get an out or assist.

DP Double Plays This is the total number of double plays that the player was involved in. Everyone involved in the play gets a DP stat. For the classic 6-4-3 double play, the shortstop, the second baseman, and the first baseman all get double play stats. TP Triple Plays This is the total number of triple plays that the player was involved in. Just as with double plays, everyone involved in the play gets a TP stat.

This is the total number of innings that this player pitched. Players may only play partial innings, and this is indicated by the decimal point. The decimal part shows how many outs there were when the player switched. If a player switched at the beginning of the fourth inning, before any outs were made, he pitched 4.0 innings. If there was one out when he switched, he pitched 4.1, if there were 2 outs, then he pitched 4.2 innings.

BF This is the total number of batters faced by this player. Note that this does not refer to individual people, but the total number of times an opponent stepped up to the plate while this player is pitching. Since players usually have more than one plate appearance per game, players will be counted more than once in the Batters Faced total.

H Hits Allowed This is the total number of hits allowed by this player. All 1B, 2B, 3B, and HR count as hits. Fielder’s choices and errors do not count as hits allowed.

BB Walks/Bases on Balls This is the total number of times this player walked someone on the opposing team. Count 1 for every time you see BB on the opposing team’s stats.

SO Strikeouts This is the total number of times this player struck out someone on the opposing team. Count 1 for every time you see a K on the opposing team’s batting stats.

ER Earned Runs This is the total number of earned runs credited to the pitcher. An is any run that is scored by the opposing team, except when the player reached base on an error (it’s the fielder’s fault the batter made it on base; without the error he’d be out), or when there should have been 3 outs in the inning, except an error occurred preventing the inning from ending. This means that when there are 2 outs, if an error occurs, any additional runs that score in the inning are unearned. Another way of thinking about earned runs is to imagine what who would have scored in the inning if no errors had occurred. The inning might have ended sooner, and fewer people would have gotten on base. Those that score are unearned. Walks and fielder’s choice plays result in earned runs if the player scores. If no errors occur during an inning, then all runs are earned runs.

PC / #P This is the total number of pitches thrown by this player. It is infrequently tracked, and completely optional to enter.
