I will begin by speaking of my childhood, which is the symbol, so to say, of my whole life, since my love for painting declared itself in my earliest youth. I was sent to a boarding-school at the age of six, and remained there until I was eleven. During that time I scrawled on everything at all seasons; my copy-books, and even my schoolmates', I decorated with marginal drawings of heads, some full-face, others in profile; on the walls of the dormitory I drew faces and landscapes with coloured chalks. So it may easily be imagined how often I was condemned to bread and water. -

We started on a modest scale to begin with - two issues a year, June and December, in 2007 - but in 2008 we plan three: April, August and December. Eventually we hope to make it a quarterly publication. There are six articles, four book reviews, a listing of new additions to the CPR library and the section entitled “Secretary's Notebook,” containing short items of information likely to be of interest to our members. Veronica O’Connor has written an account of her experiences on her pilgrimage from Canterbury to Rome in 2002, after which Almis Simans tells us about the Seven Pilgrim Churches in Rome. -

The Nobility of the Heart
THE NOBILITY OF THE HEART: A NOVEL. _____________________ BY ELIZABETH ISABELLA SPENCE, AUTHOR OF HELEN SINCLAIR. _____________________ For Fortune can depress, or can advance: But true Nobility is of the mind, Not giv’n by Chance, and not to Chance resign’d. DRYDEN. IN THREE VOLUMES. VOL. I. LONDON : PRINTED FOR LONGMAN, HURST, REES, AND ORME, PATERNOSTER-ROW. 1805. THE NOBILITY OF THE HEART. CHAP. I. No friend’s complaint, no kind domestic tear, Pleas’d thy pale ghost or grac’d thy mournful bier; By foreign hands thy dying eyes were clos’d, By foreign hands thy decent limbs compos’d; By foreign hands thy humble grave adorn’d, By strangers honour’d, and by strangers mourn’d. POPE. TEN years had now elapsed since the inhabitants of a small cottage on the borders of the New Forest, were one night, in the middle of December, alarmed at a late hour by a person loudly knocking for admittance. He was habited as a postilion, and supported a sick traveller who was unable to pursue his journey. On Gerard’s opening the door, he perceived the paleness of death on the countenance of the stranger, who, overcome by illness and the intense cold, was quite insensible. He had along with him a little girl of about four years old, whom Gerard’s benevolent wife gently took in her arms and put to bed. The gentleman lingered only a few hours after his arrival, and expired, supported in his last moments by Gerard and Agatha. On the close of the melancholy scene, they asked the post-boy a thousand questions about the stranger. -
Koch Foundation 2011 Annual Report
Mission Statement Carl Koch’s belief that he was “just a steward of the fi nances given by God to use on His behalf” inspired the commitment he and his wife, Paula, made to founding the Koch Foundation in 1979. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen and to propagate the Roman Catholic faith by providing grant support for a wide variety of evangelization eff orts. In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but fi nancially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl and Paula Koch 2 Letter From The Executive Director I have been blessed in my life to have had several family members who chose to dedicate their lives in service to God, so there has never been a time when I did not visit my relatives and see a cousin dressed all in black with a worn yet beloved Rosary tucked carefully into her simple belt. I can remember as a young child Sister teaching me to say the Rosary and telling me that whenever I attended Mass I was to pray the Rosary. That memory has stayed with me into adulthood and, when I became a mother, the Rosary took on a special and personal meaning. I found I was praying the Rosary more often and usually for something concerning my son and family. I began to realize that I needed the solace I could only fi nd by praying the Rosary. Like many parents, in addition to my work at the Foundation I am also my son’s chauff eur, carting him to and from various sports events. -

PRESIDENT’S REPORT As we gather for this National Assembly in 2019, we recall the gifts and challenges that have been ours during this past twelve months. At our Assembly in 2018 we launched the new National CRA structure. The CRA Council was entrusted to carry forward the vision of this reality across Australia. This was an exciting opportunity in which to be involved. It required both delighting in the birthing of the new and at the same time engaging with the experience of transition. Of significance has been the establishment of the CRA committees, the State networking bodies and the work of the CRA council as well as the development of the secretariat. There is much to celebrate and appreciate in what has been achieved. During these days of the Assembly, the Council will shall share with you the next phase of the implementation of this National CRA structure. Embracing the Vision of the National CRA Structure At the heart of this vision has been our on-going commitment to participation in the mission of God. -

Americana Representations of the Portuguese in American Literature
