  • The Mysteries of the Rosary
MARY ALWAYS LEADS US TO JESUS The Mysteries of the Rosary Excerpts taken from article originally published in Columbia Magazine November 2011 IN THE ROSARY, MARY LEADS US TO HER SON AS WE MEDITATE ON THE MYSTERIES OF SALVATION Our Lady of Guadalupe invites us to pray for one another in a spirit of charity, unity and fraternity. The rosary is always in season, for it helps us enter more deeply into the central mysteries of our faith that we celebrate in the liturgy throughout the year. The rosary is always in season, for it helps us enter more deeply into the central mysteries of our faith that we celebrate in the liturgy throughout the year. With that in mind, I shall offer in the coming months a series on the Luminous Mysteries, given to us by Blessed Pope John Paul II. Let us first recall what John Paul II taught us about the rosary itself. Toward the end of his papacy, he issued an apostolic letter titled The Rosary of the Virgin Mary. We can draw from it a deeper understanding of the rosary, along with a renewed resolve to pray it each day and to teach our families to do so. CONTEMPLATING THE CREED We begin the rosary by holding in our hands a small crucifix while praying the Apostles’ Creed. This is a clue to the whole meaning of the rosary, a prayer that contemplates all that Christ did for our salvation. The Creed is not only a summary of the foundational truths of our Catholic faith; it is also a proclamation of God’s saving deeds, revealed and accomplished by Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • My Roman Days] Tom Tucker [P 1963]
I Miei Giorni Romani [My Roman Days] Tom Tucker [P 1963] Preface: I am writing this at the age of 73. It’s been fifty years since I returned from my studies in Rome. They were marvelous years of growth and maturity. At the same time, I often thought of some more whimsical and touching experiences that happened to me during those years. These are some of those experiences that I want to share with you. I. “I don’t even like Wine! (April 1965) It was a lovely spring day at the end of April, 1965 in Honesdale, Pennsylvania at Kilroe Seminary. We were at lunch. The provincial council was visiting and they had finished up their meetings that morning. After lunch ended, Fr. Peter Miller, scj, the Provincial Superior got up to make some announcements about some decisions the Council had made. As he finished up, he paused and almost as an afterthought he said, “oh yes, Frater Tom Tucker will begin his studies in Philosophy in Rome this coming September”...and sat down. My life had suddenly changed…and for the better as it worked out. I was in shock and all I remember saying was, “I don’t even like wine.” Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would be going to Rome. Other scholastics had been sent to Rome for studies over the years. But, me? I tried without success to find out how this happened and what it meant. I had not even been asked if I would like to study there.

  • September 2018
Marian Thoughts of Pope Francis September 2018 September 2 – Angelus –Translated conclusion (September 1, 2018, Vatican.va). May the example and intercession of the Virgin Mary help us to always honour the Lord with our heart, witnessing to our love for him in concrete choices for the good of our brothers and sisters. September 5 – General Audience –Translated extract (September 5, 2028, Zenit.org). This choice is the Virgin Mary’s “fiat”, it’s openness to the Holy Spirit, who puts us in the steps of Christ, He who entrusts himself to the Father in the most dramatic moment and thus enters the way that leads to resurrection. September 6 – Audience (International Convention for Consecrated Widows) –Translated conclusion (September 6, 2018, Zenit.org). With this hope, I entrust you to the Lord and, through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, I impart to you my Apostolic Blessing, which I extend to those who are part of the Fraternité Notre Dame de la Résurrection and of the Communauté Anne la Prophetesse. September 9 – Audience (To Participants at the Communio Internationalis Benedictinarum Symposium) –Translated extract (September 9, 2018, Zenit.org). You bring a precious gift to the life of the Church through your feminine witness of goodness, faith, and generosity, imitating the Holy Mother of the Church, the Virgin Mary. You are icons of the Church and of our Blessed Mother: do not forget this. Icons … For more of what the pope said about Mary: https://zenit.org/articles/pope-to-benedictines-the-precious-gift-of-your-witness/ September 9 – Angelus –Translated conclusion (September 9, 2018, Vatican.va).

  • The Jesus Caritas Fraternities in the United States: the Early History 1963 – 1973
PO BOX 763 • Franklin Park, IL 60131 • [P] 260-786-JESU (5378) Website: www.JesusCaritasUSA.org • [E] [email protected] THE JESUS CARITAS FRATERNITIES IN THE UNITED STATES: THE EARLY HISTORY 1963 – 1973 by Father Juan Romero INTRODUCTION At the national retreat for members of the Jesus Caritas Fraternity of priests, held at St. John’s Seminary in Camarillo, California in July 2010, Father Jerry Devore of Bridgeport, Connecticut asked me, in the name of the National Council, to write an early history of Jesus Caritas in the United States. (For that retreat, almost fifty priests from all over the United States had gathered for a week within the Month of Nazareth, in which a smaller number of priests were participating for the full month.) This mini-history is to complement A New Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Msgr. Bryan Karvelis of Brooklyn, New York (RIP), and the American Experience of Jesus Caritas Fraternities by Father Dan Danielson of Oakland, California. It proposes to record the beginnings of the Jesus Caritas Fraternities in the USA over its first decade of existence from 1963 to 1973, and it will mark the fifth anniversary of the beatification of the one who inspired them, Little Brother Blessed Charles de Foucault. It purports to be an “acts of the apostles” of some of the Jesus Caritas Fraternity prophets and apostles in the USA, a collective living memory of this little- known dynamic dimension of the Church in the United States. It is not an evaluation of the Fraternity, much less a road map for its future growth and development.

  • Blessed Mary of the Apostles Zealous for the Mission
Fr. Scott Jones SDS Blessed Mary of the Apostles Zealous for the Mission ³ Curia Generalizia dei Salvatoriani Via della Conciliazione 51 I - 00193 Roma “The veneration of Blessed Mother Mary of the Apos- tles is essentially linked with the veneration of our Founder, Father Jordan, because she was the first who followed the way proposed by Father Jordan to be beatified by the Church.” In this way, the 17th General Chapter of the Salvato rians held in Logroño in 2006 formulated the fifth point of the ordinance on the promotion of the veneration of Fa- ther Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, the Founder of our Salvatorian Family (which includes the Salvatorian fathers, brothers, sisters as well as lay Salvatorians), thus confirming the significance of the person of Bless- ed Mary of the Apostles to the entire Salvatorian Family. Therefore, it appears only natural that the new volume in the series of booklets under the heading “Salvato- rians Worth Knowing”, which we have published since year 2005, should include a biography of the German Baroness Therese von Wüllenweber, known today as Blessed Mary of the Apostles. The above mentioned series was opened with a bi- ography of Servant of God Father Francis Mary of the Cross Jordan, Founder of the Salvatorians, which was followed by a biography of his first collaborator Fr. Bona- venture Lüthen. As the male branch of the religious congregation founded by Father Jordan, we are very pleased to be able to participate in the celebrations of this one hundredth anniversary of the death of Mother Mary of the Apos- tles (December 25, 1907) with this modest publication, | 3 which we wish to present to our Salvatorian Sisters as a little gift.

  • Koch Foundation 2016 Annual Report
1 Mission STATEMENT Carl Koch’s belief that he was “just a steward of the finances given by God to use on His behalf” inspired the commitment he and his wife, Paula, made to founding the Koch Foundation in 1979. The Foundation’s goals are to strengthen and to propagate the Roman Catholic faith by providing grant support for a wide variety of evangelization efforts. In considering applications, major emphasis is placed on sound but financially needy evangelical programs. The Koch Foundation is international in scope with no geographical preference. Carl & Paula Koch 2 Letter from the EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR As a child attending Catholic Schools I was always taught that angels were all around us as our unseen protectors. I still remember my third grade teacher Sister Peter Favor telling my classmate that we were going to wear out our guardian angels who were working overtime to keep us out of trouble. In religious education we often read stories of angels sent to do God’s will such as the angel sent to keep Abraham from sacrificing Isaac to, the Archangel Gabriel announcing the birth of John the Baptist and the birth of Jesus. Angels have two purposes, to worship God and through all eternity and to assist us during our life so that when we die we join them in heaven to praise God. We are told that there are nine choirs of angels: the thrones are angels of pure humility, peace and submission. They reside in the area of the cosmos where material form begins to take shape.
