Induction Tasks Unit 1: Britain Transformed 1918-1997

1. Create a detailed political timeline for the period 1918-1979 – You should include which party was in power, the name of their leader and a significant policy introduced during their time in office. (I would advise colour coded, Conservatives, Labour and Liberal Democrats).

2. Create a table about ‘The impact WWII had on Britain’ – include at least x5 factors in detail that affected Britain’s economy e.g. unemployment.

3. British Prime Ministers independent learning project

Objective: To sharpen research skills and to be more familiar with at least two key British Prime Ministers within the period 1918 and 1997.

Task

The period 1918 and 1997 saw many significant Prime Ministers who made an impact on modern British history. In the A Level topic, Britain Transformed 1918-97, you will need to know the key Prime Ministers, their policies and their impact as well as the important political and social developments within their term of office.

To achieve a good understanding of the Britain Transformed, 1918-97 topic, it would be wise to begin reading around this area during the summer before you embark upon your Year 12 courses. Therefore, the induction task you need to undertake is to read around at least two Prime Ministers – from the list below – and complete for each Prime Minister an introductory notes matrix which accompanies this document.
