Suriname is een trefpunt van civilisaties, komend uit haast alle werelddelen, met zovele godsdiensten, waarden, normen en gebruiken en ondanks de toch wel grote verschillen, in staat om één samenleving te vormen en elkaars eigenheid niet te dwarsbomen, maar met respect mee weten om te gaan. Een niet te onder- schatten verdienste. In ons wapen staan de trotse eerste bewoners van ons land. Terecht! Zij staan aan de wieg van onze culturele ontwikkeling. Zij hebben degenen die na hen kwamen nauwelijks in de weg gestaan. Wie vreedzaam kwam werd vreedzaam ontvangen. De overheersende Europeanen, de Afrikanen en in een later stadium de Aziaten hebben de culturele ontwikkeling voortgezet en samen met de originele bevolking vormgegeven. Wij die steeds meer naar elkaar toegroeien zullen in de toekomst deze entiteit tot iets unieks verheffen.

Onze manier van zien, zijn en doen, bepaalt hoe onze cultuur zich zal ont- wikkelen. Onze creativiteit, geprik- keld door onze verbeelding, leidt ons tot de kunst.

Zij zien de tentoonstelling als een welkome etalage, niet alleen om hun werken te exposeren, maar ook om ze te verhandelen. De Nationale Kunstbeurs is bij uitstek de plaats waar iedereen in Suriname kan zien hoe de kunst zich ontwikkelt en de gelegenheid krijgt om zelf kunstwerken te kopen. Voor wie een mooi overzicht wil van de huidige hedendaagse kunstmarkt mag de Nationale Kunstbeurs een aanrader genoemd worden.

De Vries heeft zichzelf en daarmee Suriname op het gebied van beeldendekunst als geen ander uitgedragen. In de zaal van de Kamer van Koophandel en Fabrieken (KKF) te Paramaribo werd er een rouwplechtigheid gehouden, waarbij vrienden uit de kunstwereld, familieleden en minister Patrick Pengel van Onderwijs, Wetenschap en Cultuur ad interim kort iets vertelden over het leven en prestaties van de Vries. Hij kreeg vanwege zijn bijzondere verdiensten een uitvaart met Staatseer.

Suriname's Biggest Art Icon Ever

On February 7, 2018, Suriname said goodbye to her greatest art icon “Erwin de Vries”.

De Vries propagated himself and thus Suriname in the field of visual arts like no other. Suriname is geen traditionele zon-, zee- en strandbestemming. Maar er is een juweel van een strand aan de monding van de Marowijnerivier bij het Inheemse dorp Galibi. De karakteristieke palmbomen langs het strand zijn van veraf te zien en het dorp straalt een sfeer uit die menig bezoeker een rustig plekje doet opzoeken om met een drankje in de hand en wind in het gezicht de zorgen van alle dag te vergeten.

9 Bring your hands together behind your neck. Support your neck with your 6 hands and slowly push up your shoulders. Repeat four times.

Slowly bring your chin to your chest and take three deep breaths. Repeat this 7 exercise five times.

Bring your left ear to your left shoulder as much as you can. Then bring your 8 right ear to your right shoulder as much as possible. Do this exercise slowly and repeat five times on each side.

Let your arms rest calmly alongside your body. Rotate your shoulder eight 9 times forward and eight times backwards. Then lift your shoulders, one by one, or both simultaneously. Hold this position for five counts then slowly lower your shoulders. Repeat four times. 10 Stretch your arms to the front. Point your palms downwards. Turn your palms 10 ten times to the front, then ten times towards you.
