CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED, so please register early to get the classes you want.

Each registrant will receive a Goody Bag and have the opportunity to participate in our Raffle and Auction. Bring your address labels to put on the raffle tickets for easy identification and save yourself a lot of writing! All proceeds will be used toward future Fringe Element tatting events.

CLASSES

A. Silver Bells with Diane Daiker

Skill Level: Shuttle / Intermediate Description: The student will be able to create two motifs. Techniques used: rings, chains, picots, self closing mock rings (SCMR), mock picots, split rings, joining picots, using a picot gauge and 2 different ways of adding beads (strung on ball / shuttle threads and putting beads on picots before joining.) Required Materials: Size 20 thread and 2 shuttles. Fine (Size 16 or .4 mm) hook for adding beads. (Bead mats and a few size 16 crochet hooks will be available to use in class) Required Kit: $3 Kit includes 2 3D silver Christmas bells, 8 silver jingle bells, 4 jump rings, and 48 silver 11/0 seed beads Class limit: 10

B. Answer the telephone! With Diane Daiker Skill Level: Shuttle / Intermediate Description: Using an assortment of techniques (rings, chains, joins, picots, split rings, adding beads to the center of a split ring) the student will have the opportunity to create (tat) an old-fashioned rotary telephone motif using design elements from selected antique patterns. Required Materials: Size 20 thread and 4 shuttles Required Kit: $.50 Kit includes set of ten (10) 6 mm number beads 0 – 9 Class limit: 10

C. Beginner Cluny with Mimi Dillman Skill Level: Advanced Beginner, shuttle or needle Description: Learn to weave cluny leaves in tatting Required Materials: Size 20 or larger thread, a shuttle (2 is better) or needle and ball. Shuttle tatters might like to have along a shuttle with leftovers to tie to a ball for practice before starting the motif.

D. Cluny Improvement with Mimi Dillman Skill Level: Intermediate shuttle or needle Description: Practice clunies for consistency. Prerequisite: thrown off rings and some familiarity with weaving clunies. Required Materials: Size 20 thread, 2 shuttles CTM or needle and ball.

E. Ankars Earring A Ding with Kelly Dunn Skill Level: Intermediate needle tatter Description: The art of over lapping rings to make a beautiful pair of earrings. Student will need to be comfortable with making rings and joining to very small picots. Required Materials: Size 20 thread in your favourite colour and two size 4mm to 6mm beads for the centers of earrings. Size 7 tatting needle, small , scissors and fine needle for sewing in ends.

F. Tri-Colour Star with Kaye Judt Skill Level: Experienced Beginner to intermediate Description: “Tri-Coloured Star” is a study of encapsulation and more-than-one-colour tatting for both shuttle and needle tatters. Two joins – the no blip join and the swirl join – add a bit of challenge to this easy-to-tat patten. Required Materials: Students should bring 2 shuttles or 2 same size tatting needles, size 10 or 20 tatting thread in 3 colours, plus usual tatting supplies.

G. Heart with Treble Tatting with Kaye Judt Skill Level: Intermediate Description: This heart pattern features floating rings, climbing out to Round 2 with split ring, and a lovely treble tatted scalloped border. Required Materials: Students should bring 2 shuttles or 2 same size tatting needles, size 10 tatting thread, a clip, and usual tatting supplies.

H. Simple Shell with Lauren Snyder Skill Level: Beginner, needle or shuttle Description: You will tat a string of rings, then, with the thread ends, sew the rings together to make a 3 dimensional shell. Required Materials: One shuttle and no more than 5 yards of heavy thread. Also needle for that thread.

I. Bev Dillon’s Tatted Coin aka Ice Drop with Lauren Snyder Skill Level: Intermediate - Please know Split Rings Description: Using split Rings we will learn the technique to encapsulate a , which could become part of a bracelet. Required Materials: Emoji and yellow thread will be provided, but if you have a coin or button you want to use please bring it. Size 10 or 20 thread is good for practice. Optional Kit: Kit with button and thread will be provided at no charge.

J. Herringbone bracelet with Karey Solomon Skill Level: advanced beginner/early intermediate Description: This is simple and fun to tat, an undemanding project where one slightly different ring gives a stunning result. Using size 8 seed beads and size 10 thread Required Materials: You will need size 10 thread wound on a shuttle – you’ll almost certainly need more than one shuttle full – and about 100 size 8 seed beads that are NOT threaded on. You will also need a paper clip, a needle for finishing, a toggle clasp for your bracelet and a fine crochet hook (size 14 or .6 mm is suggested) to pull a doubled thread through the beads. Optional Kit: $5 includes size 8 beads and a toggle clasp

K. Fandango Frame Purse with Karey Solomon Skill Level: Intermediate with persistence Description: Using beads, simple rings and the climb-up technique you can tat a small change purse, attaching to a prepared purse frame and seaming it as you tat. The purse on its frame is unusual and elegant; you may also tat a necklace chain and wear it! Two split rings are used to move from one round to the next. Students who do not wish to make this as a frame purse may use a pattern adaptation to tat this as an amulet bag. Required Materials: Metal purse frame, size 10 thread and size 8 seed beads, are needed, as well as two shuttles wound with thread and beads (NOT CTM and you will need to hold more beaded thread in reserve for finishing each side). You will also need a small amount of in a color complementary to your thread and a needle to sew the felt lining. Mandatory Kit: $10.00 includes frame, lining felt, seed beads and a needle and a bead-threader. Please note this is a two part class…….Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon!

L. Tame Them! with Nathalie Vacaresse Skill Level: Beyond beginners in needle tatting Description: The purpose of this class is to refresh student’s skills in needle tatting basic techniques (double stitches, chains, rings) and to go a little beyond with more intermediate techniques such as split rings. Required Materials: Bring a tatting needle and thread of matching sizes. You will have to thread/unthread the needle repeatedly, so choose a needle/thread sizes you can thread easily. Preferably a size 5 needle with size 10 or 20 thread. Small scissors, steel crochet hook appropriate to thread being used.

M. Ring A Bell with Nathalie Vacaresse Skill Level: Intermediate needle tatting class Description: Learn how to make split rings and split chains with a needle. Possibility to practice front side/back side tatting. Basic knowledge in how to make double stitches, rings, chains and joins with a needle is required. Required Materials: Bring a tatting needle and thread of matching sizes. You will have to thread/unthread the needle repeatedly, so choose a needle/thread sizes you can thread easily. Preferably a size 5 needle with size 10 or 20 thread. Small scissors, steel crochet hook appropriate to thread being used.

Non-Tatting Classes

N. Double Basics with Brenda Franklin Skill Level: Knitting skills required - Must know how to knit, purl, cast on and cast off Description: Double knitting is a reversible knitting technique. Learn the basic techniques of double knitting while making a butterfly themed cotton pot holder. Required Materials: Worsted weight (#4) Craft cotton in two contrast colours (EG. Dark Navy and light blue), knitting needles 4.5 mm/US size 7, scissors, darning needle, crochet hook 4.5 mm/US size 7.

O. Ring Them Bells with Brenda Franklin Skill Level: All Description: Bead stitched, beaded bell ornament Required Materials: Bead mat, scissors, size 10 beading needle, waxed beading thread (dollar store waxed nylon dental floss), oat beads, 6 and 8 and 10 mm faceted beads and size 6º, 8º, 10º seed beads Optional Kit: Colours will vary and some may be limited Kit fee: $10.00 each Kit includes: oat beads, 6 and 8 and 10 mm faceted beads and size 6º, 8º, 10º seed beads

P. Colour Pattern Weaving on the Pin Loom with Brenda Franklin Skill Level: Must be able to weave a square on the pin loom Description: Students will weave with two colours to create a square with a plaid/gingham pattern and a square with a stripe pattern. Required Materials: Two colours of yarn (at least 20 yards each) worsted weight (#4), four inch pin loom, weaving needle, needle size 24 or larger and scissors

SATURDAY LUNCH The cost is included as part of your Registration. Please list any dietary requirements on your Participant’s Form.

VENDORS We are lining up Vendors to take care of your tatting needs, with a variety of Threads, Beads, Books, Shuttles, Needles, and many other tatting goodies and supplies. If there are any particular items that you would like our Vendors to bring, please list them on your Participant’s Form.

LOCATION All official activities of our event are being held at the Hilton Garden Hotel (behind Best Western) in Cambridge Ontario. 1-519-620-8936 We have reserved a block of guest rooms at the Hilton Garden Hotel Cambridge. Use code “Fringe Element Tatters” or “FET” when booking. You can stay for $119.00 CDN (plus taxes) per night based on double occupancy. Individuals are responsible for their own reservations and charges.

Book by August 20, 2019 and ask for the “The Fringe Element Tatters 2019” group block.

COST Just $85 for both days, including Saturday lunch. See Participant’s Form for single day rates. Cost of kits is additional – to be paid directly to the instructor.

OTHER INFORMATION

Competition: This year’s competition for “Ring A Ding” is to use the key chain from the goodie box and decorate it with tatting. Special prizes awarded based on popular vote of those attending our event.

Cameras are welcome, but only take pictures of copyrighted designs with the permission of the designer.

“Tat and Brag”: We’d love to see what you’ve created.

Snacks and drinks will be available at the event. Please do not bring any hot plates, crock pots or kettles to the event ballroom. They are not allowed due to hotel policy.

**US currency is accepted at the event at par.
