In a time when fashion trends are over before they have began, you have to respect Converse. The converse high tops have remained fundamentally unchanged since their humble beginnings, however, always fashionable in some form. From a well respected athletic to a symbol of rock music and then hip hop culture – Converse has always stayed in favour. In February of 1908, Marquis Mills Converse launched the Converse Rubber Shoe Company in Malden, Massachusetts; by 1910 they were producing 4,000 pairs of daily. The major shift came for Converse when they started producing shoes and were approached by a player, who is now synonymous with the brand, Chuck Taylor. Chuck worked tirelessly for the brand, promoting them as the number one basketball shoe. From that, in 1936 (the year in which white converse were introduced), Converse All-Stars were worn by Team USA in the first ever Olympic basketball game, and they went to win 7 consecutive medals wearing them! After their success the court, Converse were adopted by street culture. In the 1970s, Converse were the shoe of choice for punk bands like and The . White Converse had connotation of being rebellious and different, coupled with the fact they were cheap and easily available, they were perfect for young people. On wearing white converse, Tommy Ramone said, “It was punky and snotty to wear instead of shoes. Punky and snotty was very important for The Ramones.” In the 1980s, Converse moved into the hip hop scene, championed by NWA. Ice Cube said that the appeal for Converse came from looking up to gangsters, at the time they used to wear Chuck Taylor Converse because they worked well with khaki pants and a t shirt, they loved being able to spend $60 and look good. NWA adopted the look and popularised it. USC has an extensive selection of Converse shoes online and a wide variety in their Converse trainers sale.
