Federico Sacchi biography
Federico Sacchi has distinguished himself for more than a decade in the European opera world for his noble timbre as well as for his actorial and interpretative skills. Following his debut, at only 23 years as Don Quichotte in Massenet’s homonymous opera, Sacchi has performed in many prestigious theaters, auditoriums and international festivals.
His vast repertoire includes performances Don Carlos (Filippo II) at the National Theater in Brno, La Sonnambula (Count Rodolfo) and Turandot (Timur) at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the title role in Rossini’s Mosè in Egitto in Pisa. Maria Stuarda (Talbot) for the direction of Rudolf Weichert and Stiffelio (Jorg) with Stefano Ranzani in Zurich, Semiramide by Rossini (Oroe) with Evelino Pidò at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées and at the San Carlo Theater in Naples, The Barber of Seville (Basilio) conducted by Michele Mariotti in Liege, Falstaff (Pistola) at the Lucerne Festival and at the Teatro Regio in Turin directed by G.Noseda, La Bohème (Colline) in Liege, La gazza ladra (Fabrizio) and Adriana Lecouvreur (Principe di Bouillon) at the Oper Frankfurt, Tancredi (Orbazzano) at the Santa Cecilia Foundation in Rome under the direction of René Jakobs, Iolanta (Bertran) for the Florentine Maggio Musicale, Don Giovanni (Leporello) and Samson et Dalila (Abimelech) with Ono Kazushi in Brussels and at the Konzertgebouw in Amsterdam and Werther (Burgmeister) in Monaco with Marco Armiliato.
His vocal flexibility and musical finesse allowed him to sing also operas and oratorios of the baroque repertoire in very prestigious contexts. He performed twice at the Anciant Music Festival in Innsbruck: first as Achilla in Sartorio’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto with Attilio Cremonesi (opera recorded by ORF and awarded with the Diapason d’Or), the in the title role of Don Trastullo by Jommelli conducted by Alessandro De Marchi. He also partecipated at the Festival in Potsdam as Giampietru in La Stellidaura Vendicante by Provenzale conducted by Alessandro de Marchi. He recorded La Serva Scaltra di Hasse for Kicco Music and cooperated with L’arte del Mondo Orchestra as Caronte and Plutone in Monteverdi’s Orfeo as well as for the first world recording of Salieri’s La Scuola dei Gelosi for SONY Deutsche Harmonia Mundi in the leading role of Blasio.
Among the sacred repertoire he sang Haendel’s Messiah at Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, Les Vèpres aux Jesuites, several Bach Cantatas and Missae, Bruhn’s De Profundis in Luzern and Zurich. Concerning concerts it’s worth mentioning Beethoven’s IX Symphony with the Toscanini Orchestra conducted by Gunter Neuhold, Verdi’s requiem for the Spanish National Television under the baton of Adrian Leaper, Donizetti’s Requiem with David Stern, Mozart’s Requiem conducted by Gabor Ötvös, Mefistofele’s prologue by Boito with La Verdi orchestra in Milan and the Water Passion by Tan Dun at the Malatesta Festival in Rimini.
He also performed some renowned cycles as Dichterliebe by Schumann, An die Ferne Geliebte by Beethoven, the Chansons de Don Quichotte by Iber, the Don Quichotte by Ravel as well as many art songs by Tosti, Finzi and Respighi in a series of recitals with the winner of the competition “Van Cliburn” Simone Pedroni.
Among Sacchi’s recordings we shall mention the DVD of the famous Traviata directed by Lorin Mazel for the reopening of La Fenice Theater, the DVD of “Capuleti e Montecchi – La Scala version” with Patrizia Ciofi, a DVD of the rare Le Roi de Lahore by Massenet also unfortunately as the last recording of Marcello Viotti in Venice; Julius Caesar in Egypt by Sartorio for the Innsbruck festival, CD winner of the Diapason d’Or, as well as the recent CD of “La Scuola dei Gelosi” by Salieri for SONY Deutsche Harmonia Mundi.
Forthcoming engagements include King Filippo II in Verdi’s Don Carlos at the National Theater in Brno and Ludovico in Verdi’s Otello with the Berliner Philarmoniker under the baton of Zubin Mehta in Baden-Baden and Berlin.
