SportAbility School and Special Event Sledge Sled Loan Program

Thank you for your interest in introducing the of to your school and/or community. SportAbility is a non-profit association whose mission is to provide recreational and competitive opportunities in sport for with physical disabilities. We are committed to building stronger communities throughout BC and would love to participate in your school and/or community events.

Sledge Hockey is a fast-paced and competitive sport that requires tremendous balance, endurance and upper body strength. One of Sledge Hockey’s most important qualities is its integrative character. Originally designed for people with little to no movement in their lower extremities, SportAbility encourages able-bodied athletes and physically disabled athletes to play side-by-side. Sledge Hockey allows players to compete on a level playing field where disabilities are not disadvantages, and can be a fun, memorable and unique way for athletes with physical disabilities to connect with their family, classmates and peers.

SportAbility offers traditional Sledge Hockey sets for use on ice, but also modified sets with wheels rather than blades on the bottom of the sleds, and rubber attachments rather than metal picks on the end of the sticks. This innovative approach to Sledge Hockey allows us to offer the sport on gymnasium floors and outdoor venues, therefore making it more accessible to a wider range of people. SportAbility has 10 sleds available for rental within the Greater Vancouver area and is not responsible for booking or paying for ice or gym time.
