Buzzer-Beater By ULM Sinks Eagles, 58-57, On Thursday Arsula Clark basket gives Warhawks the win; Alisha Owens leads Eagles with career-high 16 points Women's Posted: 1/10/2019 9:40:00 PM

MONROE, La. - Arsula Clark hit a driving at the buzzer to give host UL Monroe a 58-57 Sun Belt Conference women's basketball victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Thursday evening at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La.

The Warhawks improved to 7-7 overall and 1-2 in the Sun Belt with the win, while Georgia Southern fell to 5-9 overall and 0-3 in the league with the loss.

The Eagles led by as many as 10 points in the third quarter, but ULM fought back and took the lead late, 56-55, on a pair of free throws by Jamie Means with just over a minute left. The Eagles got a layup from Alisha Owens with 24 seconds left to retake the lead, 57-56, and then got a defensive stop on the other end. Amira Atwater rebounded the missed shot but was fouled, and with 4.6 seconds left, the Eagles could not inbound the basketball successfully, the ball deflecting off of a GS player to give it back to ULM for the game-winning possession.

Owens led a trio of Eagles in double figures on the night with 16 points, while Alexis Brown added 12 points and Amira Atwater had 10. Hailey Dias-Allen had a career-high 10 rebounds on the evening. Tiara Malone's game-high 24 points led ULM.

Eagle of the Game Owens scored a career-high 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, surpassing her previous high of 11 points, set earlier this season at Kennesaw State.

Key moment Trailing by three at the end of the first quarter, 14-11, the Eagles had been outrebounded 6-1 on the offensive end by the Warhawks. But GS opened the second quarter on a 9-2 run and outrebounded the Eagles 15-6 overall in that quarter to build a five- halftime lead.

Stat of the Game Malone entered the contest having hit just 8-of-37 three-pointers all season long (21.6 percent) but hit 6-of-10 three-pointers on the evening en route to her game-high 24 points.

QUOTABLES Head coach Kip Drown on Alisha Owens and the offense "Alisha finishes well inside, we just got her hte ball in good positions. We passed the ball very well tongiht, matured offensively. We missed a couple of baskets late, but we shared the ball better tonight than we had all year."

On the final possession by ULM "Disappointed the way it finished up with the review [to give the ball to ULM with 4.6 seconds left]. You're dealing with a short time period, we were in our switching man defense. They got the ball to [Arsula] Clark who is a penetrator. As you look back on it, I wish we had gotten to her a half-step quicker to make her pitch it. "

Next up The Eagles return to action on Saturday, visiting Louisiana for a 3 p.m. ET Sun Belt Conference matchup in Lafayette, La.
