INTRODUCTION Opening statements in the October 2018 federal trial regarding corruption in men’s college basketball served as a juicy appetizer for what was to come in the rest of the trial. Now former Adidas executive James Gatto, former Adidas consultant Merl Code, and aspiring agent and former runner for NBA agent Andy Miller, Christian Dawkins, faced accusations that they paid money from Adidas to prospective student-athletes and their families to ensure the prospective student-athletes signed with Adidas-sponsored schools, and then with Adidas and certain financial planners and agents once they turned professional.1 In her opening statement, Casey Donnelly, Gatto’s attorney, admitted that Gatto funneled $100,000 to the family of highly recruited prospect Brian Bowen; paid $40,000 to the family of current Dallas Maverick Dennis Smith, Jr. -

Difference-Based Analysis of the Impact of Observed Game Parameters on the Final Score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019
Original Article Difference-based analysis of the impact of observed game parameters on the final score at the FIBA Eurobasket Women 2019 SLOBODAN SIMOVIĆ1 , JASMIN KOMIĆ2, BOJAN GUZINA1, ZORAN PAJIĆ3, TAMARA KARALIĆ1, GORAN PAŠIĆ1 1Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 2Faculty of Economy, University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina 3Faculty of Physical Education and Sport, University of Belgrade, Serbia ABSTRACT Evaluation in women's basketball is keeping up with developments in evaluation in men’s basketball, and although the number of studies in women's basketball has seen a positive trend in the past decade, it is still at a low level. This paper observed 38 games and sixteen variables of standard efficiency during the FIBA EuroBasket Women 2019. Two regression models were obtained, a set of relative percentage and relative rating variables, which are used in the NBA league, where the dependent variable was the number of points scored. The obtained results show that in the first model, the difference between winning and losing teams was made by three variables: true shooting percentage, turnover percentage of inefficiency and efficiency percentage of defensive rebounds, which explain 97.3%, while for the second model, the distinguishing variables was offensive efficiency, explaining for 96.1% of the observed phenomenon. There is a continuity of the obtained results with the previous championship, played in 2017. Of all the technical elements of basketball, it is still the shots made, assists and defensive rebounds that have the most significant impact on the final score in European women’s basketball. -

An In-Depth Look at the Past, Present, and Future Abstract The NCAA began in the early 1900s as a way to regulate the wild west that was intercollegiate athletics. Over time, the organization has grown from its 62 member beginnings to three divisions with 1,281 members. In 2017, for the first time in its history, the NCAA brought in over one billion dollars in total revenue (Kirshner 2018). The NCAA has been able to achieve this feat by its insistence on the "amateurism" of its participants. This business model has allowed the organization to keep the financial benefits associated with the playing of high-level sports on college campuses. Participants in these events deemed "Student-Athletes," are barred from receiving payment for their athletic skills without being faced with the potential of losing their ability to compete at the NCAA level. -

FORM: Jared Miller Buzzer Beater TEACHER WORKSHEET: GRADES 7-8 This lesson plan provides an engaging way for students to listen to Jared Miller’s Buzzer Beater and document the unconventional sound eects we hear in this piece. Miller uses instruments and objects to create a musical representation of the last two minutes of a basketball game. The following activities will guide students in listening for the interesting sound eects in this piece, and tracking them both in real time and in the orchestral score. Age appropriate learning within this lesson plan includes exploring dierent timbres or qualities of sounds and reading musical notation. OBJECTIVES • Actively listen for sound effects in a piece of music. • Learn how to listen using timecodes to identify musical events in a piece of music. • Learn how to listen using page numbers and bar numbers to identify musical events in a piece of music. STEPS • Together as a class or in pairs, have students read the introduction to this module found at TSO.CA/Elearning, which includes composer Jared Miller’s description of the piece. • Hand out the Sound Effect Scavenger Hunt worksheet to each student or pair of students. • Have students use the following link to access the recording of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra performing Buzzer Beater on YouTube, where they will be able to see the video timecode and record it in column two of the worksheet: https://youtu.be/2XkbGFpjUpY • Have students access the score to Buzzer Beater at TSO.CA/Elearning and look for text indicating each sound effect. Have them record the page and bar number in column three of the worksheet for as many items as they can find on page 7 & 8. -
