TEAM LEADER MANUAL

KRANJSKA GORA

/ SELLA NEVEA

19.01. – 01.02.2019

Dear Team Leader,

Welcome to the 2019 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships.

Kranjska Gora and Sella Nevea are cities with a long tradition of organising Para alpine skiing competitions and when they join forces we can only expect exciting events. It is the first time two cities host the same edition of the World Championships. hosted the last competition in 2017 and it is great to have co-organising the season’s most important event.

We expect around 140 athletes from 35 nations to participate in the 2019 World Championships. The competition will start in Kranjska Gora for the other 12 technical events before it moves to Sella Nevea with 18 speed events. In this guide you will find the information you need to know about the competition, the venues, classification, transport, accommodation and all the relevant areas.

This is the first major Para alpine skiing competition after the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games where I had the chance to witness extraordinary performances from both experienced and young skiers. I am sure those in Italy and Slovenia will have the same feeling I had in Korea when they watch the best athletes in world in action.

I would like to thank both Local Organising Committees for their work supporting World Para Alpine Skiing to deliver the championships. Best of luck to all the competing athletes and teams.

Thank you, Andrew Parsons President International Paralympic Committee

WELCOME

The honorary patron of the World Para Alpine Skiing Championships 2019 Kranjska Gora / Sella Nevea is the President of the Republic of Slovenia Borut Pahor.

Dear Team Leader,

Welcome to the 2019 World Para Alpine Skiing Championships.

After Tarvisio’s 2017 Para Alpine World Championship, which marked for many reasons the standard of organisation never achieved before, we have been asked, once again, to prepare an extraordinary competition. It is the first time that a World Championship is organized on a border territory, crossing the border between two states, Slovenia and Italy. Not only has this taken an important significance for the athletes, because they will have the opportunity to ski in two locations of great prestige, but also for the impact of a "borderless" competition. And once again, the Paralympic World becomes the precursor of these values. For its central position in Europe, the diversity of the unique landscapes that coexist in such a small area, our region offers its guests a great opportunity for tourism. The national team will feel the homely atmosphere of these World Championships, also thanks to the welcoming attitude of our people. As usual, school kids will cheer for them and try to collect some autographs of athletes who perhaps they do not know but, nevertheless, admire as if they were idols. First of all I would like to thank all the Sport X All staff who, with determination, constancy and mission collaborates in a voluntary way to organize this and many other events aimed at those who love sports. I would like to thank the public institutions that supported us through their patronage, the IPC for the trust granted. I extend a warm welcome to all the teams that will compete in the snows of Sella Nevea and I wish the athletes to compete better by touching and exceeding their limits to return to their nations enriched with an important experience both competitive and human.

Welcome! Paolo Tavian President Local Organising Committee
