2005 OUTLOOK LIMESTONE COLLEGE

The Limestone women’s lacrosse program is coming off its most successful season to date. The 2004 Lady Saints put together a 2 record of 13-4 including a regular season CVAC Championship and a trip to the National Semifinals in Orlando. Limestone finished the year with their highest national 0 ranking, checking in at 3rd. The College has raised the bar with its first NCAA Division II Tournament appearance while setting all-time highs with 13 wins and 234 goals, and the 2005 squad is very capable of pushing it 0 further.

The Lady Saints garnered numerous accolades for their performance last season. Head 5 Coach Scott Tucker was named CVAC Coach of the Year. Michelle Lare got the nod for IWLCA Defender of the Year. Lare, Pam Gateau, and Meghan Dennehy were awarded All-American Honors. That trio rewrote the Limestone record book with their performance last season. Dennehy shattered her own record for goals in a season (45 in ’03) with 58. Dennehy also set new marks for career goals (151) and points (191). Gateau set single season records with 91 points and 40 assists, and Lare set the career mark for caused turnovers with 119.

O After a tremendous year, the Lady Saints sustained several key losses including all three All- Americans from the 2004 squad. In addition, Limestone will miss the play of Maria Humphries who scored 40 goals and earned womenlacrosse.com All-American honors as well as Summer Ferraro, the reigning CVAC Freshman of the Year, who sustained a season ending knee injury in U the fall.

One might look at those losses and dub 2005 a “rebuilding year.” However, Tucker believes that this year’s squad has the talent to win a CVAC Championship and be back in the middle of the T national picture.

Michelle Lare will continue to guide the defense, not on the field, but from the sidelines. Lare was hired as assistant coach in June of 2004. Her knowledge of the game and of Limestone College will continue to be a great asset for the Lady Saints. L Tucker and Lare have brought in an outstanding recruiting class highlighted by freshman midfielder Marissa Pesce, freshman attacker Andrea Poor and senior transfer Judy Ranns. “We have a great combination of quickness and talent in our recruiting class that will keep us in the national spotlight O and lead us to a CVAC championship” said Tucker.

“Our fate this season will come down to how quickly our young team will come together. I am very pleased with how fall ball went and look forward to continued O success this season in the conference and in the nation.”

Limestone Lacrosse has been successful for several K years now. The Lady Saints will not rest on the accomplishments of last season. They want to continue to raise the bar as Limestone College Women’s Lacrosse garners more and more national attention.

LIMESTONE FACILITIES LIMESTONE COLLEGE

Limestone Physical Education Center

Limestone College made a major announcement in the summer of 2004. The College will build a new physical education center, expected to be completed in the late spring of 2005. The new facility will offer three classrooms, nine offices, locker rooms, Athletic Training Education facilities, a fitness center, and a wrestling practice facility.

Located on Thompson street near Limestone Springs, the facility will be the first new building on the Limestone campus since the Timken Center was dedicated 30 years ago. The Physical Education facility will give Limestone’s Athletic Training Education Program the necessary space to meet accreditation standards of the American Medical Association’s Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs which will allow Limestone students to sit for the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Examination.

In addition to the new Athletic Training facilities, the facility will also house a 3,900 square foot weight training facility which will be a great asset for Limestone’s approximately 300 varsity athletes as well as all other students, faculty, and staff. Limestone’s wrestling team, which begins competition in the 2004-2005 school year, will have a practice area in the new building, although the team will hold its matches in the Timken Center.

The Timken Center, built in 1976, is the center of the Limestone Athletic Department, housing athletic offices, athletic training facilities, and classrooms. The Timken Center also houses Limestone’s basketball arena, a 1,500 seat facility that hosts men’s and women’s basketball games as well as volleyball and wrestling matches. Limestone’s junior Olympic sized pool is also located inside the Timken Center. Home to the Lady Saints Swimming Team, the pool features an 800 square foot observation balcony coupled with 2,500 square feet of deck space.

The recently remodeled Emmie Evans Rector Tennis Center is one of the top facilities in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference. The facility plays host to eight lighted tennis courts and houses tennis offices and a club house area for student-athletes.

Saints Field was given a face-lift this summer. Limestone’s game field for men’s and women’s soccer as well as men’s and women’s lacrosse was completely resurfaced and a full sized practice field was added immediately adjacent to it.

Limestone’s athletic facilities also include a baseball and softball field complex. Bob Prevatte Field plays home to the baseball team while Tennis Center Lady Saints Softball Field hosts Jimmy Martin’s squad.

The Saints also enjoy the use of four practice fields including a new full-sized field which sits next to the main game field.

ABOUT THE CAROLINAS-VIRGINIA ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference is a NCAA Division II athletic conference made up of 11 teams from North Carolina and South Carolina. These teams consist of: Anderson College, , , Coker College, , Lees-McRae College, Limestone College, Mount Olive College, Pfeiffer University, Queens University of Charlotte, and St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Each of the twelve CVAC sports has a season-ending tournament that leads to automatic NCAA qualification in Mens Basketball, Women's Basketball, Softball, and Volleyball and NCAA regional selection opportunities in Women's Cross Country, Men's Cross Country, Women's Soccer, Men's Soccer, Golf, Women's Tennis, Men's Tennis, and Baseball.

CVAC Commissioner, Dr. Alan Patterson says this about the conference, "The Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference is recognized regionally and nationally as a premier NCAA Division II conference which champions scholarship athletics working in concert with student athlete's committed to academic success."

The CVAC has roots in the Old North State Conference formed in 1938. The name changed to the Carolinas Conference with the first inclusion of South Carolina members, and in 1994 became the CVAC as Virginia membership was included and championship play was shifted to NCAA Division II.

Curtis Administration Building

Limestone College was established in 1845 by Dr. Thomas Curtis and his son, Dr. William Curtis, distinguished scholars born and educated in England. Limestone College was the first woman’s college in South Carolina and one of the first in the United States.

In the late 1960s, Limestone College became fully coeducational. The campus is a unique combination of history and progress, with nine of our campus buildings included on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1991, Limestone College has completed renovations of several of its historic campus structures: the Montgomery Classroom Building, Ebert Residence Hall, Carroll Fine Arts Building, Hamrick Hall of Science, Eunice Ford Residence Hall, and Dixie Lodge Student Center. While the College’s ties to the past are visible in the many historic structures, these renovated facilities now house the modern technology necessary to maintain Limestone’s reputation as an outstanding liberal arts college. Dixie LodgeDixie Lodge

Limestone College is an accredited, independent, coeducational, four-year liberal arts institution chartered by the state of South Carolina. Limestone is a non- denominational Christian college. Our programs lead to a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, Associate of Science or Associate of Arts degree.

Today, Limestone College enrolls approximately 600 students in its day program and approximately 2,000 in the Block Program (located at various sites throughout South Carolina) and Virtual Campus Program (Internet Courses) combined.
