2004 OUTLOOK LIMESTONE COLLEGE

The fall of 2004 will be a season of change for the Limestone Volleyball team. The team has undergone a massive 2 overhaul since posting a 4-26 record in 2003. The 2004 squad features plenty of new faces including head coach Tim 0 Loesch.

Loesch is entering his first season at the helm of the volleyball team. Loesch has a 0 winning background in the sport. He began his volleyball career as an assistant at Charlotte Country Day School where his efforts yielded two conference championships, along with a 5th and two 4 rd 3 place finishes in the state playoffs. He then traveled to Raleigh to rebuild the Peace College program, where he helped the college post its only two winning seasons. From 2001-2003 Loesch served as head coach for Butler High School in Charlotte, NC, where he accumulated an overall record of 40-32 and earned two state-playoff berths.

O Loesch has also served as the head coach for the Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club for the past seven years and director for three years. With Carolina Juniors he led teams to two regional championships and two regional runner-up finishes. This season’s club team qualified for the 2004 USA Junior Olympic Volleyball Championships held in Texas in U June, where they finished 33rd in the nation.

Loesch has brought in a talented group of young players to complement his core of returnees. Haley Blanton (Shelby, NC) is back for her senior campaign after posting 59 T block and 187 kills as a junior. Abigail Hobart (Pensacola, FL) should provide some leadership as well. Abi ranked second on the team with 34 aces and 248 digs and third on the team with 163 kills as a freshman in 2003. Shannon Zehr (Charleston, SC) is also returning after posting a .913 serving percentage in her freshman year. L Talayna Akrie (Aurora, CO) will add experience and leadership to a very young squad. Akrie comes to Limestone after O transferring from Middle Tennessee State University where she recorded 74 digs in 17 matches for the Blue Raiders who compete in the NCAA Division I. O Local talent Candace Robertson (Gaffney, SC) adds to a strong freshman class. Robertson was named Offensive Player of K the Year and team MVP for the Gaffney High School Indians. She will join

Gaffney products Lindsay Lee and Wendi Mullinax on the squad.

Jennifer Black (Jonesboro, AR) played for the Memphis Metro Volleyball Club and 2 qualified for the USA Junior Olympic Invitational. She also led her Jonesboro High School team to a state championship in her junior sophomore year. Amie Postell (Evans, GA) and Ashley Blackwelder (Apex, NC) also participated in the Junior Olympics. 0 Postell, a Greenbrier High School product, was also named All-Region and All-Palmetto District while Blackwelder was a 2-time All-Conference selection.

Brittany Kitzmiller (Williamsburg, MI) and Haley Mallool (Hilton Head, SC) were both 0 All-State performers in high school. Kitzmiller earned the honor twice in the state of Michigan.

With numerous changes, Coach Loesch has high expectations for the “New Look” 4 Saints. He feels he has a very strong recruiting class and a team that has the potential to compete with anyone.

LIMESTONE FACILITIES LIMESTONE COLLEGE

Limestone Physical Education Center

Limestone College made a major announcement in the summer of 2004. The College will build a new physical education center, expected to be completed early in the spring semester. The new facility will offer three classrooms, nine offices, locker rooms, Athletic Training Education facilities, a fitness center, and a wrestling practice facility.

Located on Thompson street near Limestone Springs, the facility will be the first new building on the Limestone campus since the Timken Center was dedicated 30 years ago. The Physical Education facility will give Limestone’s Athletic Training Education Program the necessary space to meet accreditation standards of the American Medical Association’s Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs which will allow Limestone students to sit for the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification Examination.

In addition to the new Athletic Training facilities, the facility will also house a 3,900 square foot weight training facility which will be a great asset for Limestone’s approximately 300 varsity athletes as well as all other students faculty and staff. Limestone’s wrestling team, which begins competition in the 2004-2005 school year, will have a practice area in the new building, although the team will hold its matches in the Timken Center.

The new facility will greatly enhance Limestone’s current facilities. The Timken Center was built in 1976. The ??????? square foot facility is the center of the Limestone Athletic Department, housing athletic offices, athletic training facilities, and classrooms.

The Timken Center also houses Limestone’s basketball arena, a 1,500 seat facility that hosts men’s and women’s basketball games as well as volleyball and wrestling matches. Limestone’s junior Olympic sized pool is also located inside the Timken Center. Home to the Lady Saints Swimming Team, the pool features an 800 square foot observation balcony coupled with 2,500 square feet of deck space.

COLLEGE INFORMATION LIMESTONE COLLEGE

Curtis Administration Building

Limestone College was established in 1845 by Dr. Thomas Curtis and his son, Dr. William Curtis, distinguished scholars born and educated in England. Limestone College was the first woman’s college in South Carolina and one of the first in the United States.

In the late 1960s, Limestone College became fully coeducational. The campus is a unique combination of history and progress, with nine of our campus buildings included on the National Register of Historic Places. Since 1991, Limestone College has completed renovations of seven of its historic campus structures: the Montgomery Classroom Building, Ebert Residence Hall, Carroll Fine Arts Building, Hamrick Hall of Science, Eunice Ford Residence Hall, and Dixie Lodge Student Center. While the College’s ties to the past are visible in the many historic structures, these renovated facilities now house the modern technology necessary to maintain Limestone’s reputation as an outstanding liberal arts college.

Limestone College is an accredited, independent, coeducational, four-year liberal arts institution chartered by the state of South Carolina. Limestone is a non-denominational Christian college. Our programs lead to a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Social Work, or Dixie Lodge Associate of Arts degree. Since 1928, Limestone College has been accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and associate degrees.

Today, Limestone College enrolls approximately 600 students in its day program and approximately 2,000 in the Block Program (located at various sties throughout South Carolina) and Virtual Campus Program combined.
