Walton has Limestone on the right track and on the verge of a special year. 2 In 2004, Walton’s second season at the helm, the Lady Saints nearly doubled their win total from the year before, finished 6th in the conference, and gave the eventual CVAC Champion Mount Olive 0 College Lady Trojans all they could handle in a 4-1 CVAC Tournament contest. After bringing in his second recruiting class, Walton believes that his Saints are contenders. 0 The 2005 Lady Saints will be led by All-CVAC performers Liz Eichhorn (goal), Rachel Moreland (midfield), and Ashley Dugan (defense), as well as 2004 Team MVP Erin Hoffman (midfield), and last year’s goals and points leader Cathy Zgraggen (forward). 5 Eichhorn and Hoffman have been playing together for ten years. Three years ago Hoffman and Eichhorn were teammates at Fort Collins High School in Fort Collins, Colorado. In the summers they played for the Fort Collins Arsenal. In 2003 Hoffman continued her soccer career by joining the Lady Saints. Eichhorn also chose to take her game to the collegiate ranks when she enrolled at Campbell University. At that point Eichhorn’s plans changed when she was diagnosed with West Nile Disease. Eichhorn would never play a game at Campbell. O Fortunately for the Lady Saints, Eichhorn won her battle with the disease that caused 63 deaths in the state of Colorado in 2003. In the fall of 2004 Eichhorn transferred to Limestone to join her former teammate. She was not sure how her lingering symptoms of dizziness and fatigue would affect her play. “It just felt great to U be out there playing again,” Eichhorn said. “It felt great to compete again and be a part of a team that grew each game and improved every time out.” Over the course of the season, Eichhorn’s symptoms faded, leaving her only with occasional dizziness and a slight trembling in her right hand. In fact, Eichhorn turned in a terrific rookie season by leading the CVAC in saves (169) while ranking 2nd with four shutouts and 3rd in T save percentage (.805). Her 8.89 saves per game ranked 4th in all of Division II. For that performance she earned 1st-team All-Conference honors in her freshman campaign. Hoffman also had an outstanding season. She tallied a team leading 7 assists while ranking third with 4 goals L and second with 15 points, and was named Team MVP as a sophomore. Rachel Moreland joined the young goalkeeper on the 1st-team All-CVAC after taking 2nd-team honors in O her sophomore campaign. Defender Ashley Dugan was an honorable mention selection. The 2005 Lady Saints will also be bolstered by the O return of Cathy Zgraggen. Zgraggen is back for her sophomore year after an electric freshman season. She led the 2004 squad with 8 goals and 22 points. K 3 LADY SAINTS SOCCER Limestone College Women’s Soccer 2005 Outlook This season Coach Walton has an outstanding core to work with and he has greatly improved the squad with another solid recruiting class. Limestone has signed seven outstanding young players who will 2 make an impact on the 2005 club. The Lady Saints have signed three forwards to provide some offensive spark in 2005. Amanda Lear (North Charleston, SC) was 0 an All-Region selection in 2002 and 2003 and was named Rotary Athlete of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She was named Team MVP in 2004 and 1st-team All-State in 2005 after leading her team in goals. Lear participated in the South Carolina All-Star game in 2005. She 0 played club soccer for the Carolina Fusion and helped lead that team to the South Carolina State Finals in 2004 and 2005. Alexis Brothers (North Charleston, SC) was a four-year starter for West Ashley High School and helped lead her team to three State Championships. 5 Forward Lee Cribb (Spartanburg, SC) was a team captain at Spartanburg High School in her senior year. Lee represented the North team in the South Carolina North-South All-Star Classic in 2004. Midfielder Kristina Gaylord (Kendall, NY) was named Region Player of the Year and Section Class Offensive MVP at Kendall O High School. She comes to Limestone via Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, where she was a two-year starter and was named Team Captain in her sophomore season, while leading Monroe to back-to-back Region Championships and the U 2004 JUCO National Championship with a record of 22-0-1. In addition, Limestone has signed two defensive standouts. Defender Roseanne Gusmus (Anderson, SC) was a 2-time All- T Region selection at TL Hanna High School. Limestone showed dramatic improvement in 2004. The Lady Saints hope to do the same in 2005 and vault to the top of the L CVAC standings. Camilo Rodriguez—Men’s Soccer (6th season) Welcome to the first edition of the Southern Wesleyan University Faculty- Players represent 6 different countries Athletics Newsletter (F.A.N). The SWU-F.A.N. is designed to keep you, our 2012 team posted program best 15-3-2 reord faculty, informed about what is going on in Warrior athletics. We want to 2012 and 2013 teams were ranked in NAIA Top 25 and provide you with information about our teams and coaches. In this first SWU- FAN we want to take the opportunity to answer some questions we have been NCCAA Top 10 hearing about our recent move to the NCAA II and give you some general Team GPA over the last three years: information about athletics that you may not already know. 2012—3.05 Why DID SWU make the move to the NCAA II and Conference Carolinas? 2011—3.06 While there were many reasons, the most compelling was quality of life for 2010—2.94 our student-athletes. In our current conference (NAIA/SSAC) we are required to play teams that are spread out over a large geographical area resulting in an average travel distance of 600 miles! As you have noticed this takes a toll on Corey Morrell—Women’s Soccer (1st season) our student-athletes both in and out of the classroom. In the new Conference Seven of 12 returning players from 2012 posted a 3.00 Carolinas, our average travel will be cut in half!! This means more time in the GPA or better classroom and less time on the road.
