The NCAA honored seven St. Francis Brooklyn teams with Public Recognition awards this year for having superior academic performance rates. Terrier men’s golf, women’s volleyball, men’s swim- ming & diving, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s water polo, were all cited as having scored in the top 10 percent in each sport with respect to their Academic Progress Rates (APRs). The men’s swimming and diving squad was one of just 13 programs to have a perfect APR score in their sport.

Forty St. Francis Brooklyn student-athletes joined 160 of their classmates during the College’s Spring Commencement held May 13 at Brooklyn Acad- emy of Music. Valedictorian Matthew Delfino, who was a two-year member of the men’s track & field team, delivered a spirited and emotional address to nearly 400 of his classmates during the St. Fran- cis College Spring Commencement held May 13 at Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Junior David Lonnberg was the recipient of the Elite 89 award for the 2013 NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship. It was the second straight year that he’s been selected for this prestigious award. Lonnberg, majoring in Political Science, carries a 3.968 GPA. He was presented with the award at the NCAA Final Four Banquet. The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recog- nizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achiev- ing the highest academic standard among his or her peers.

Sarah Benedetti, David Lonnberg, and Jamey Veney were inducted into the Duns Scotus Honor Society. Founded in 1935, the Duns Scotus Society is named for the Blessed Duns Scotus, a Franciscan scholar and champion of Our Lady’s Immaculate Conception. Election to membership in the Society is based on scholastic standing, participation in extracurricular ac- tivities, evidence of loyalty to the ideals of St. Francis College and demonstration of a true Franciscan spirit.

The St. Francis Brooklyn women’s basketball team finished fourth in the WBCA (D1)with an incredible 3.608 combined grade point average. In addition, the Terriers earned their third consecutive Northeast Conference Team Institutional Award in their sport after earning the highest g.p.a. in the league. Junior point guard Katie Fox was recently named one of the 20 winners of the 12th Annual Division I-AAA Ath- letics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) Scholar- Athlete Team. Fox owns a perfect 4.0 grade point av- erage in English and History. St. Francis Brooklyn captured their first NEC Championship since 1998 and their fifth in school history.

Brooklyn Bridge Park played host to the first-ever NCAA Division I men’s soccer contest at Pier 5 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, when the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers defeated the Saint Pe- ter’s Peacocks, 3-1, on Tuesday, September 10. The team went 4-1-1 on their new home field.

The Terriers faced Bryant in the NEC Finals. The team twice rallied to tie the championship game on second half goals from Tournament MVP Kevin Correa.

Defender Andy Cormack scored the on a free kick seven minutes into the first to give fourth-seeded St. Francis Brooklyn a 3-2 win over the third-seeded Bulldogs in the NEC Men’s Soccer final in New Britain, Connecticut.

The Terriers went on to face Penn State in the opening round of the NCAA College Cup, falling 1-0 against the No. 16 ranked Nittany Lions.

Following the season, Correa was named a Third Team All-American and head coach Tom Giovatto was named the NSCAA North Atlantic Region Coach of the Year.

16 WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The Terriers won their home-opener as sophomore Maggie Niu and freshman Dome- nique Gerard combined for 23 kills in a sweep over NJIT.

Niu also smacked a career-high 20 kills to help lead the Terriers to a remarkable, come- from-behind victory against the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils in the NEC opener.

After dropping the opening two sets (15-25, 14-25), the Terriers surged back to win by scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 15-13.

Niu paced the team with 2.41 kills per game and also added a team-high 1.78 digs per game.

Gerard was second on the team with 2.05 kills per game.

Senior Feliz Ramirez chipped in with a team-high 3.18 digs per game.

Maggie Niu paced the Terriers with 2.41 kills per game.

17 MEN’S & WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Men’s Cross Country The Terriers placed ninth at the NEC Championships.

Leading the way for St. Francis Brooklyn was freshman Damian Duda, who clocked in with a season-best time of 30:57.

In the first meet of the season, seniorMichael Gale set a new school course record of 19 minutes and 37 seconds (6k) at the Monmouth University Season Kick-off on August 31st. He was the top Division I finisher and placed fifth to lead the squad to a third-place finish.

Newcomer Luis Porto posted his first top-20 finish with a time of 20:09 also at Mon- mouth.

Women’s Cross Country Inelsi Diaz posted a top-20 finish at the Northeast Conference Championships, leading the Terriers with her fourth top-twenty performance of the se ason. Diaz crossed the finish line in 14th place with a time of 20:17 and was named to the 2013 Northeast Conference Women's Cross Country All-Conference Team. Diaz finished 20th out of 162 competitors at the ECAC Championships (University Meet), crossing the finish line in 18:57.4, which was a personal best and a school-record at the course for a 5k event. Diaz finished her season by placing in the top-half at the 2013 NCAA Northeast Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park, crossing the finish line in a 6k personal-best time of 22:24.0.

18 WOMEN’S BOWLING The Terriers broke a new school-record with 76 victories this past season and advanced to the NEC championship match for the first time in their program history.

Meghan Wing was named to the All-Tournament Team and NEC All-Rookie Squad. For the tournament, she posted a .579 strike percentage and filled 91.1 percent of her frames. Her 40 strikes (in 67 attempts) led all NEC bowlers at the tournament.

The squad also won the Virginia Union University Invitational in November behind the strong play of All-Tournament selection Wing.

Another highlight for the Terriers came in the “Fred Underwood” Lady Bulldog Classic, which was hosted by Bowie State University. In this tournament the Terriers finished 12-1 overall, which earned them 2nd place.

Captain Shanna Chepelsky traveled to Las Vegas to compete in the Team USA Trials with 104 of the nation's best female bowlers.

Jamie Kelly was a two-time NEC Rookie of the Week.

19 MEN’S WATER POLO

The Terriers qualified for back-to back NCAA Men’s Water Polo tournaments for the first time in program history.

On November 24th at Brown’s Moran Coleman Aquatics Center, St. Francis Brooklyn captured their second consecutive Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) title with a hard-fought 11-9 victory over Princeton.

Tournament MVP Igor Mladenovic led a strong defensive effort by stopping eight Princ- eton shots, while Lazar Komadinic and Ilija Djuretic each contributed three goals in the Terriers historic win.

The victory earned the Terriers an NCAA play-in game on Thursday, December 5, at Stan- ford University, where they defeated UC San Diego, the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) champion, for a berth in the 2013 NCAA Championship Final Four.

The Terriers’ defense held UC San Diego to just one goal in the second half while Mlad- enovic made 10 saves in the contest, including a pair of five-meter penalty stops in the first half. Djuretic led the Terriers with a hat trick and his five-meter penalty shot with 6:39 remaining proved to be the winner.

Following the season, Mladenovic was named a Third Team All-American and the Northern Division Player of the Year.

20 WOMEN’S WATER POLO The Terriers recorded a thrilling, 16-15 victory against Notre Dame College as Bernadett Laszlo broke a 15-15 deadlock with just ten seconds remaining in regulation to give the Terriers the victory. Laszlo was named to the Second Team All-MAAC squad after leading the team with 36 goals.

Freshman goalie Marti Grois started off her career in a strong way with three games post- ing double digit saves. She was named the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week for her ef- forts.

The Terriers earned an NCAA Public Recognition Award for APR.

Bernadett Laszlo was named to the MAAC All-Conference Squad.

21 MEN’S BASKETBALL St. Francis Brooklyn went 18-14 and recorded their most wins since the 2001-2002 season.

The Terriers tied an NEC record with nine non-conference victories, which included a season-opening overtime triumph at Miami (Fl.), the program’s first win against a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The squad also led nationally-ranked Syracuse in the Car- rier Dome up until the final minute of play.

Jalen Cannon was named a First Team All- Conference selection after pacing the Terriers in scoring (14.9 pg.) and rebounding (8.2 pg).

Guard Ben Mockford drilled a career-high 87 treys this season and shot 45 percent from downtown in conference play. He drained a league-high 3.63 per game in NEC contests. Mockford finished third all-time at SFBK with 252 career treys.

Point guard Brent Jones dished a career-high 187 assists this season, which was the second-best single-year total ever at the school. His 432 career dimes are the third-most in SFBK history. Jones was 2nd in the league with a 2.73 assist-turnover ratio but was even better in NEC contests with a league-best 3.33 mark.

The Terriers finished 2nd in the NEC with 176 blocks, the most they have ever produced as a member of the NEC. Amdy Fall (55) and Wayne Martin (43) were the top-duo in the NEC with 98 combined rejections. Martin was named to the NEC All-Rookie Squad.

22 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

The squad set a single-season school record with 19 wins and won a program-record 10 NEC contests. St. Francis Brooklyn defeated three teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament; Robert Morris, Army, and Pennsylvania. The Terriers were ranked as high as No. 24 in the Women’s Mid-Major Top-25 Poll. The team established a new team-record by winning eight straight contests from Novem- ber 30th through January 11th. The program made their debut in the Barclays Center with a 69-48 thumping of LIU Brooklyn on January 11th in front of a live ESPN3 audience.

Junior guard Eilidh Simpson was named to the Northeast Conference Second Team for the first time in her career. One of the top scoring guards on the circuit, Simpson finished among the top-ten in scoring (14.5 ppg), while ranking second in three-point field goal percentage (38.6%), third in free-throw percentage (84.8%) and fifth in field goal percentage (45.4%).

Leah Fechko was named to the All-Defensive Team. Fechko, who was named to the 2012-13 All-Northeast Conference Rookie Team a year ago, helped anchor a Terrier defense that led the conference in scoring defense (allowing 62.3 ppg), field goal percentage de- fense (38.1%), and finished second in three-point field goal percentage defense (29.5%). The Twinsburg, Ohio native finished among the top-10 in free-throw percentage (80.0%) steals (47 total/1.62 spg), and offensive rebounds (77).

23 MEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Indoor Track & Field Akeem Brooks qualified for the IC4A championships at the UAlbany Freat Dane Classic in the 200 meters with a time of 48.89, which was good for ninth out of 51 competitors. St. Francis Brooklyn received outstanding performances from two of their top student-ath- letes at the 2014 IC4A Championships. Brooks placed sixth in the finals of the 500 meters and broke a new school mark with a time of 1:03.66. Adian Ewart did not qualify for finals but did manage to break the Terriers’ school-record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.91. Ewart accomplished the feat in the preliminary round, where he finished 17th overall.

Outdoor Track & Field St. Francis Brooklyn turned in some outstanding performances at the 2014 Northeast Con- ference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The 4x100 relay team captured the silver medal and set a new school-record in the process with a time of 41.43. Ewart, Brooks, Shawn Carrington, and Sherwayne Kenton were all member of the squad. The foursome later went on to break their own mark at the IC4A meet with a time of 41.36. Ewart also took the bronze medal in the 200 meters with an IC4A qualifying time of 21.55. In addition, he placed fifth in the 100 meters with another IC4A time of 10.73 and was fifth in the long jump (6.81 meters). He broke a new school-mark in the 100 meters at IC4A’s with a time of 10.67, placing fifth overall. Brooks placed seventh in the finals of the 400 meters (49.52) and Luis Porto was seventh in the 1,500 meters (4:07.44).

The record-breaking 4x100 relay team grabbed the silver medal at NEC Outdoor Championships.

24 WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD

Indoor Track & Field Several Terriers enjoyed standout performances at the 2014 UAlbany Great Dane Classic. Kristal Williams finished second and qualifying for the ECAC’s in the 60 meters with a time of 7.61. In addition, she placed 11th in the 200 meters with a time of 25.10. Inelsi Diaz also finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:33.74. Maya McDuffie took the bronze medal in the triple jump to highlight the Terriers’ per- formance at the 2014 Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. McDuffie provided the Terriers with six points when she leaped 11.32 meters (37-01.75) to take third-place in the triple-jump. Wiliams scored in a pair of events, taking sixth-place in both the 60 meters (7.82) and the 200 meters (25.63). Diaz gave the team three points after she placed 6th in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:14.98 and was also 8th in the 3,000 meters (10:23.69).

Outdoor Track & Field The Terriers enjoyed several standout performances at the 2014 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Williams took home a total of three medals to lead the squad. She earned two silver medals to become the NEC runner-up in the 100 meters (11.90) and the 200 meters (24.27). Both efforts were ECAC qualifying times. Williams added her final piece of hardware as a member of the 4x100 relay team that took the bronze medal with an ECAC qualifying time of 47.65. McDuffie, Jetiea Wil- liams, and Briona Wallace rounded out the squad.

25 MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers placed seventh out of 18 schools at the 2014 Metro- politan Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, which were contested at in February.

Jack Volpe set a new school record and took the silver medal by scoring 463.60 points in the one-meter diving competition and also placed fourth in the 3-meter event with 454.40 points.

Liam Veazey set a new school-mark in the 400 individual medley, placing sixth in a time of 4:13.79.

Jakob Christerson broke a new school-mark and took seventh (2:09.00) in the 200 breaststroke and Gareth Livingstone was eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.79.

The Terriers’ 400 free relay team took seventh with a time of 3:14.78. Jon Pepaj, Michael Orlando, Christerson, and Veazey were all members of the squad. The 200 free relay squad turned in a new school-record time of 1:25.71 at the 2014 ECAC Championships, which were held at the Naval Academy. Livingstone, Or- lando, Pepaj, and Thomas Savory were members of the team that broke the mark. The 400 medley relay team comprised of Savory, Christerson, Pepaj, and Livingstone broke the school mark with a time of 3:09.89.

Christerson also broke the school record in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 57.99, and Volpe placed fifth overall with 237 points on the 3-Meter Diving Board.

26 WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING Freshman Taylah Harrison took the silver medal in 3-meter diving at the NEC Championships. She also finished fifth overall in the 1-meter diving competition. Har- rison set a new school-record in both events. In additon, Harrison took the bronze medal with a score of 247.25 in the finals of the 3-meter diving competition at ECAC Championships.

Jessica Reynoso, Brooke Sweeney, Anne Kuczynski and Kristina Hernandez established a new standard with a time of 8:01.50 at the NEC Championships in the 800 freestyle relay, surpassing their own time of 8:04.84.

Reynoso also broke the school-mark with a time of 2:14.38 in the 200 individual med- ley in the NEC prelims and broke her own 100 breaststroke mark.

The Terriers continued to post impressive results at the 2014 ECAC Champion- ships, which were held at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Terriers placed eighth out of 21 teams with 103 points.

The 200 medley relay team placed seventh overall in a time of 1:53.66. Sweeney, Juli- ana Kagami, Reynoso, and Kuczynski were members of the squad.

Kagami broke school-records in the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly. She was also a member of the 200 medley relay and the 400 medley relay squads that broke school- marks.

Hernandez broke the school-mark in the 1650 freestyle. Jessica Reynoso broke three individual school-records.

27 MEN’S TENNIS St. Francis Brooklyn defeated Wagner and Rider.

Victor Blasco went 9-8 in singles to lead the squad. He was an impressive 5-1 against NEC opponents.

Francesc Terns-Campius went 5-2 at #1 singles.

Luda Lisovska won a pair of singles matches, including two against NEC opponents.

The Terriers were honored with an NCAA Public Recognition award for APR.

29 MEN’S GOLF The Terriers completed the 2014 campaign with a ninth-place finish at the Northeast Conference Cham- pionships in Daytona Beach, Florida. Steven Stuto paced the Terriers with a score of 164 (86, 78) to finish 38th overall.

After posting a 325 in round one, the Terriers shattered the all-time program record with a round two score of 308 at the Central Connecticut State Tournament.

Freshman Ryan Tobin broke the St. Francis Brooklyn men’s golf program mark for lowest round total during the first round(71)of the Rutgers Invitational. Stuto also recorded the Terriers first “Hole-In-One” at the event. Steven Stuto was the Terriers top-performer at NEC’s.

30 WOMEN’S GOLF The St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers wrapped up the 2013-2014 season with an eighth-place finish at the Northeast Confer- ence Championships, held at LPGA Golf Course. Sophomore Nikki Liucci finished in the top-half of the field (t-18th) by coming through with a three-round score of 240 (81, 80, 79). Michelle Provenghi placed 31st with a score of 253.

Luicci posted her third top-ten finish of the season as the St. Francis Brooklyn women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Navy Spring Classic, hosted by the United State Naval Academy.

The Terriers continue to re-write their own history, as they carded a new program low 335 in round two of the St. John’s Invitational, shaving four strokes off their previous best set at the Chesapeake Bay Invitational. Second-year golfer Dre- wanne Shubeck also rewrote the record books, as she placed 15th overall and fired a new program-low of 76 to finish with a 161. Rebecca Kerry sends a long drive at NEC’s.

31 AWARDS BANQUET

The 2013-2014 Athletic Awards Banquet was held on Thursday, May 1, inside the Genovesi Center. The evening, which celebrated the theme reflecting the Roaring Twenties and Great Gatsby era, was a salute to the numerous athletic and academic achievements that were accomplished over the past season in Terrier athletics.

Senior Igor Mladenovic (men's water polo) and junior Eilidh Simpson (women's basketball) were named the Student-Athletes of the Year. Senior Tyler Perkins (men's water polo & men's swimming & diving) and senior Slavica Stefanovic (women's volleyball) were named the Scholar-Athletes of the Year. St. Francis College's Office of Special Events under Rob Oliva was presented the Edward Aquilone Spirit Award, and Kennitha Allahar, an accounts payable assistant, was named the Administrator of the Year. In addition the Director's Award for academic performance went to the men's water polo squad and the women's basketball team.

For the first time in the history of the celebration, fans were able to vote interactively for the Rocky Awards in seven new categories: Male & Female Newcomer of the Year (Jack Binks (men's soccer)/Taylah Harrison (swimming & Diving)), Most Improved Male & Female Student-Athlete (Andy Cormack (men's soccer)/Eilidh Simpson (women's basketball), Record-Breaking Performance by a Male & Female Student-Athlete (Akeem Brooks (track & Field)/Taylah Harrison (women's swimming & diving), and a Team-Spirit Award (men's soc- cer). In addition, attendees were able to vote throughout the evening for the 2013-2014 Play-of-The Year, which went to men's soccer player Andy Cormack for his game-winning overtime goal to give the Terriers the NEC Championship.
