MOSCOW May 19 – 24, 2012

Four months ago, the Dance Company staged the world premiere of its newest dance – Crisis Variations – at the Baryshnikov Arts Center in NYC. The choreography for that dance has just been nominated for the “,” to be presented in at the Bolshoi Theater on May 22nd. The award recognizes exceptional events occurring during the previous year on stages around the world. In honor of the nomination, the Lubovitch company will perform its acclaimed Duet from Meadow at the Bolshoi as part of a gala program featuring several of the world’s other top dance companies. Please join us in Moscow for this festive occasion. Our great friends at The Joyce Theater are also traveling to , so we will be joining their group on special sight-seeing excursions.

Saturday, May 19 Depart on independently arranged flight from NYC to Moscow.

Sunday, May 20 Arrive in Moscow. Time at leisure to begin exploring Moscow.

Monday, May 21 Buffet breakfast at the hotel Bolshoi Theater

10:00: Sightseeing including visits to the Novodevichy Convent and Christ the Savior Cathedral.

From an artistic point of view, the Novodevichy Convent (a women’s monastery) is regarded as one of Russia’s architectural gems. The structures dating from the late 1600s embody the very pinnacle of Russian and foreign aesthetic achievement.

Founded in the early 1500s by Vasily III, son of Ivan the Great and father of , this wealthy religious sanctuary for monastic women, played an immeasurably significant role in Russian history for some 400 years. Its cemetery is the final resting place for many famous Russians including Chekhov, Gogol, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Khrushchev and Yeltsin.

14:00: Lunch at Bosco Café. This Italian restaurant has a brilliant panoramic view of and St. Basil’s Cathedral.

15:30: Walking tour of Red Square with the option to visit St. Basil’s Cathedral.

17:00 Transport back to the Hotel for relaxation.

19:30 Departure from the Hotel for dinner.

20:00: Dinner at Café Pushkin. This luxurious restaurant is housed in a 19th century mansion. The restaurant consists of three main halls on three levels, and the interior decor revives the wonderful atmosphere of the early 20th century. It is Moscow’s top restaurant.

Buffet breakfast at the hotel 9:45: Depart the Hotel to walk to the Kremlin. 10:00: Tour the Kremlin grounds and Armoury with a visit to the Diamond Fund.

An extraordinary melding of architectural masterpieces totally encompassed by massive walls, the Kremlin, one of the largest such constructions in the world, is home to the State Museum of History and Culture.

Officially called the Russian Diamond Fund, the astounding collection was assembled by the Soviet government in the Kremlin’s central Armoury in 1922 and opened to the public in 1967.

13:30: Lunch at Godunov. This restaurant of Russian cuisine is situated in the centre of the capital, under the painted arch of the refectory chambers of the 17th century.

15:30: Tour the State Tretyakov Gallery. Begun in 1856 by Muscovite textile merchant and art collector Pavel Tretyakov, the gallery originally consisted of his personal family treasure housed in his sizable mansion. In 1892 Paul and his brother, Sergey, deeded the property and its entire collection to the city of Moscow as a public gallery. The gallery has been greatly expanded and extended over the years. The collection now contains the largest repository of Russian art in the world (over 100,000 pieces), as well as art from around the world, from the medieval period (notably including icons) to the early 20th century.

17:00: Return to the Hotel.

Dinner before or after the evening performance on your own with restaurant suggestions. 18:15: Depart the Hotel to walk to the Bolshoi Theater.

19:00: First Evening Performance of the Prix Benois de la Danse at the newly renovated Bolshoi Theatre (includes the Award Ceremony and performance by the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and this year’s other nominees). The Prix Benois de la Danse was founded in Moscow in 1991, and it recognizes exceptional events occurring during the previous year on stages around the world.

Wednesday, May 23

Buffet breakfast at the hotel.

Time at leisure to explore Moscow. Some suggestions – explore the area around Red Square (Lenin’s Mausoleum, GUM department store, Alexander Gardens), check out the city’s exceptional metro system and stations (such as Belorusskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Mayakovskaya, Park Kultury and Teatralnaya), or visit the of Fine Arts.

13:30: Lunch at Bolshoi Restaurant. This is one of Arkady Novikov’s ventures not far from the Bolshoi Theatre. It is considered one of the best restaurants in Moscow and an elegant dining experience.

18:15: Depart the Hotel to walk to the Bolshoi Theater.

Optional event not included in Benefit Package: 19:00: Charity Gala Performance of the Prix Benois de la Danse at the Bolshoi Theatre. There is a reception following the performance in the Atrium of the Theatre, next door to the Bolshoi. Dress is “Black Tie Optional”. Tickets range from $350 to $3,000.
