QUESTIONS

1. MR. S. J. BROOKS, MP. (KGALAGADI SOUTH): To ask the Minister of Land (472) Management, Water and Sanitation Services when the Kanye sewage project is scheduled to be completed and to state if:

(i) the date varies from the original one; if yes, why and the cost implications;

(ii) all the people affected by the project have been compensated; and

(iii) those retrenched have been compensated.

2. MS. T. MONNAKGOTLA, MP. (KGALAGADI NORTH): To ask the Minister (473) of Basic Education to apprise this Honourable House on:

(i) the extent of early and unintended pregnancies in the country, indicating how many (in absolute numbers) girls have dropped out of school due to pregnancy in the past five (5) years (2015-2019) and the most affected regions;

(ii) how many dropouts at (i) above have returned to school in the past five (5) years; and

(iii) the interventions in place at schools to prevent and manage pregnancy cases and what comprehensive strategy is in place to respond to this situation.

3. MR. K. NKAWANA, MP. (SELEBI PHIKWE EAST): To ask the Minister of (474) Investment, Trade and Industry to:

(i) update this Honourable House on the status of the Glass Project;

(ii) state if there are any efforts of resuscitating the project; if yes, what will be the cost; and if no, what does the Minister intend to do to ensure that glass is produced locally given that we have the requisite raw materials to produce such commodity.

1 4. MR. M. G. J. MOTSAMAI, MP. ( SOUTH): To ask the Minister of (475) Investment, Trade and Industry to state:

(i) if her Ministry is leasing offices from the private sector in Ghanzi and Kgalagadi Districts; if yes, what are the names of those companies or lessors;

(ii) the method employed to lease the said offices from the private sector in Ghanzi and Kgalagadi; and

(iii) the rental amounts in each case.

5. MR. C. GREEFF, MP. ( BONNINGTON SOUTH): To ask the (476) Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism whether there are any Community Based Natural Resources Management (CBNRM) projects available in - Maunatlala Constituency and greater Tswapong Region; if any, to state:

(i) how many are currently running and in which villages;

(ii) what has been the impact of these projects on the Tswapong Region;

(iii) communities’ terms of employment, financial returns and quality of life; and

(iv) further the level of implementation of the Ecotourism Strategic Plan in the Tswapong Region.

6. MR. W. B. MMOLOTSI, MP. ( SOUTH): To ask the Minister (477) of Basic Education:

(i) how far his Ministry is with the implementation of the use of indigenous languages in schools;

(ii) if they are considering the introduction of Swahili in schools as it was recently adopted as a fourth official language by the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Region; and

(iii) when the draft language policy is likely to be released.

7. MR. O. RAMOGAPI, MP. (PALAPYE): To ask the Minister of Local (471) Government and Rural Development to explain the contract entered into between Botswana Post and his Ministry and the 3rd party, Choppies regarding disbursement of social grants through Choppies and to state:

2 (i) if he is aware of unfair competition brought by the 3rd party (Botswana Post) through engaging Choppies alone leaving other chain stores or shops;

(ii) if the answer to (i) is affirmative what is he doing to remedy the situation, providing timelines;

(iii) if the answer to (i) is to the contrary why then Choppies is awarded the monopoly and was there any tender advertised; if not, why not;

(iv) why it seems like the beneficiaries are tempted, lured or indirectly forced to buy from Choppies.
