RE: Planning Application: UTT/18/0460/FUL – Stansted Airport Expansion Plans to enable combined airfield operations of 247,000 aircraft movements and a throughput of 43 million terminal passengers in a 12 month calendar period.

Dear Sir/Madam

Great Easton & Tilty Parish Council wish to lodge a formal objection to this planning application and urge the Secretary of State to agree with District Council and refuse it.

We have previously submitted written objections to the original planning application and they still stand, so will not be repeated here.

In our opinion, the issue of a further 880 page addendum to the original 2,000 page environmental assessment is not sufficient to overturn the 4 refusal reasons given by UDC on 29th January 2020 in their decision notice.

The villages of Great Easton, Tilty and Duton Hill within our Parish have been significantly affected by the noise and pollution caused by the current aircraft movements and an increase in flights of 44% to 274,000 per annum will only compound the misery suffered by our community. This is totally unacceptable.

The airport already has permission to grow passenger numbers to 35 million per annum, following the public enquiry in 2007 and whilst Manchester Airport Group forecast this will not be reached until 2023, the Department of Transport say this will more likely be 2033. This without taking into account the impact on air travel that will result from the Covid -19 pandemic. We see no reason for planning to increase numbers at this time.

Throughout the process involved with this planning application MAG has said it would respect local judgment on its proposals and now that has gone against them they have chosen to appeal to central government, showing total disregard for local decision-making.

Our Parish community, along with neighbouring villages and towns have suffered the detrimental impact from the existing flight movements at Stansted for a number of years and do not want to see this increased. For the ongoing health and well-being of our communities and for the sake of the carbon footprint impact on our surrounding rural environment (indeed, the whole planet), we urge the inspectors to dismiss this appeal.
