The high Andean forests are especially vulnerable to this type of soil erosion. The corporate purpose of ‘Reforestadora El Guásimo S.A.S.’ is to use wood from its plantations, but it also follows the parameters of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). For this reason, it carries out reforestation activities and programs and, very particularly, it is interested in carrying out ecological restoration processes in some critical sites. The study area is located between 2000 and 2750 masl and is considered a low Andean humid forest (bmh-MB). The average annual precipitation rate is 2057 mm and the average temperature is around 11 ºC. The soil has a sandy loam texture with low pH, which limits the amount of nutrients it can absorb. FAO (2014) suggests that around 10 genera are enough for a proper restoration. After a bibliographic revision, the genera chosen were Alchornea, Billia, Ficus, Inga, Meriania, Miconia, Ocotea, Protium, Prunus, Psidium, Symplocos, Tibouchina, and Weinmannia. Two inventories from 2013 and 2019, helped to determine different biodiversity indexes to check the survival of different species and to suggest the adequate characteristics of the individuals for a successful vegetative stakes reforestation.

To address this lack of information, we developed a method to estimate periurban aboveground biomass (AGB)—a proxy for multiple ecosystem services—of secondary Andean forests near Bogotá, Colombia, based on very high resolution (VHR) GeoEye-1, Pleiades-1A imagery and field-measured plot data. Specifically, we tested a series of different pre-processing workflows to derive six vegetation indices that were regressed against in situ estimates of AGB. Overall, the coupling of linear models and the Ratio Vegetation Index produced the most satisfactory results. Atmospheric and topographic correction proved to be key in improving model fit, especially in high aerosol and rugged terrain such as the Andes.

W. tomentosa es una planta dominante en el clímax regional y muy frecuente en los bosques montañosos del norte de la cordillera de los Andes. En Colombia se encuentra principalmente en la cordillera Oriental. Es considerado como uno de los principales inductores preclimácicos de las laderas y de allí su comportamiento pionero como competidor; razón por la cual se requiere de estudios ecológicos, conocer su propagación, %siología, entre otras. El establecimiento de W. tomentosa es propicio para el desarrollo de otras especies de páramo y de lugares de ladera. Los tallos son cua- drangulares y las hojas siempre opuestas; las inflorescencias son terminales o laterales, de aspecto racemoso (espigas o panículas), constituidas por agrupaciones de flores de tipo cimoso (verticilas- tros), que se ubican en cada par de brácteas. Las flores presentan cáliz bilabiado o regular de cinco piezas parcialmente soldadas, que a veces crece rodeando el fruto, y la corola tiene los péta- los unidos, simetría dorsiventral, con una parte cilíndrica (tubo) y otra rasgada que consta de cinco lóbulos parcialmente soldados y orientados formando dos labios; el superior frecuentemente recto y en forma de casco (gálea), suele proteger a los estambres y el inferior trilobado y más extendido, sirve como plataforma a los insectos en el proceso de polinización. Los estambres son siem- pre menos de cinco, generalmente cuatro (dos pares) o a veces sólo dos, como ocurre en Salvia y en Rosmarinus.

The relationship between bromeliad structure, defined as its size and complexity, and accumulated leaf litter was studied in 55 bromeliads of Tillandsia turneri through multiple regression and the Akaike information criterion. Leaf litter accumulation in bromeliads was best explained by size and complexity variables such as plant cover, sheath length, and leaf number. In conclusion, plant structure determines the amount of litter that enters bromeliads, and changes in its structure could affect important processes within ecosystem functioning or species richness.
