Breakfast Hospet was built by Krishna Deva Raya, one of the rulers of Vijayanagara in memory of his mother Nagalambika. The city was named Nagalapura; however people referred to the city as Hosa Pete meaning New City. An area between Hampi and Hospet is still called as Nagalapura. Day 08: Hospet - Badami 8hrs approx Breakfast Drive from Hospet to Badami and check into your hotel. After breakfast drive to Badami via Aihole and Pattadakal. Aihole is the cradle of stone temple architecture of the southern Dravida School. The oldest temple, lad khan goes back to the 5th century A.D. there are 70 temples in this group. The Durga temple is noted for its sculptures. The Meguti temple is built of 630 small stone blocks. The Ravanaphadi cave has some beautiful carvings. Pattadakal, referred to as Petrigal, reached its pinnacle of glory under the Chalukya kings from 7th to 9th centuries. The oldest in this group is the Sanghameshwara temple. The Mallikarjuna temple has pillars depicting life of Krishna. Badami City Tour After breakfast visit the Badami caves. Badami also known as Vatapi rich with Hindu and Jain temples carved out of sand stone hills. The carved temples date back to the 6th century. Of these three are Hindus and one Jain. Sculptured out of solid rock they are adorned with carvings. Fort, on top of a hill encloses large galleries, treasury & a watch tower. The famed Malegitti Shivalaya temple set on the summit of a hill is built of stones joined without mortar.

Gulbarga The most important monument in Gulbarga is the Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, the tomb of the great Sufi saint. Built in the Indo-Sarcenic style, it is also the venue of an annual Urs, attended by thousands. Visit the Fort, which has 15 towers and 26 guns, one of them measuring 25 feet in length. Also worth seeing are Sultan Hanan's tomb, the tomb of Ghias-ud-din, and the fine mausoleum of Feroze Shah and his family, the Haft-Gumbaz outside the city. The Mahboob Gulshan surrounded by well-kept lawns draws many visitors, as does the Shrine of Shri Sharanabasaveshwara, a famous pilgrim centre standing near the Gulbarga pond.
