Transformations of work, competitiveness and inequality and the second in German in Berlin 15 - 16 November where the topic was Christian Social Ethics in the Digital Age. These meetings were stages in a process that aims to project into the future the experiences gained gradually over the years, as in 2017 we are approaching the threshold of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Foundation through St. John Paul II’s 1993 Motu Proprio.
Autoctoni ambrosiani sono stati Eugenio Tosi (Busto Arsizio), Achille Ratti (Desio), Giovanni Colombo (Caronno Pertusella), Dionigi Tettamanzi (Renate) e Angelo Scola (Malgrate). Provenienti da fuori, Andrea Ferrari (Lalatta di Palanzano, Parma), Ildefonso Schuster (Roma), Carlo Maria Martini (Torino). Due i religios i: Ildefonso Schuster, benedettino cassinese, e Carlo Maria Martini, gesuita.

  • Marriage and the Family Within the Sacramentality of the Church: Challenges and Perspectives*
MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY WITHIN THE SACRAMENTALITY OF THE CHURCH: CHALLENGES AND PERSPECTIVES* CARDINAL MARC OUELLET “The new openings for a pastoral approach based on mercy must take place within the continuity of the Church’s doctrinal tradition, which is itself an expression of divine mercy.” INTRODUCTION The upcoming Extraordinary Synod of Bishops on the theme of the family is sparking unprecedented interest in the Church due to the urgency and gravity of the pastoral problems concerned as well as the hopes and expectations expressed in response to preparatory consultations. * This address was originally presented at the Opening Act of the Judicial Year of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of Valencia (Valencia, Spain, 27 March 2014). Communio 41 (Summer 2014). © 2014 by Communio: International Catholic Review MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY WITHIN THE CHURCH 227 Already during Vatican Council II, the Pastoral Con- stitution Gaudium et spes placed marriage and the family at the forefront of the urgent issues of our age.1 Since the publication of the encyclical Humanae Vitae, the 1980 Synod on the family, and John Paul II’s rich teaching on this subject,2 the Church has not ceased to follow with growing concern the evolution of mores and mentalities away from the heritage transmitted by biblical revelation and the Christian tradition. Pope Francis has compared the Church’s mission in the contemporary world to a “field hospital” that treats the many wounded strewn about a battlefield.3 The image per- fectly describes the situation of marriage and the family, which for several decades has experienced a serious deteriora- tion not only on the level of couples’ lived experience but also in legislation contrary to the traditional values of the family, promoted by groups of lobbyists who favor the dominant rela- tivistic mentality.

  • The Renewal of the Ambrosian and the Hispano-Mozarabic Liturgy After the Second Vatican Council
„Ruch Biblijny i Liturgiczny” 66 (2013) nr 3 REV. TOMASZ BAĆ The Renewal of the Ambrosian and the Hispano-Mozarabic Liturgy after the Second Vatican Council The renewal of the liturgy and its general reform made after the Second Vatican Council generally concerns the Roman Rite, which all instruc- tions of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium refer to. The conciliar fathers were well aware of the fact that there is a need for renewing other rites and traditions existing in the Church.1 In the introduction to the first conciliar constitution it was stated that: “In faithful obedience to tradition, the sacred Council declares that holy Mother Church holds all lawfully acknowledged rites to be of equal right and dignity; that she wishes to preserve them in the future and to foster them in every way. The Council also desires that, where necessary, the rites be revised carefully in the light of sound tradition, and that they be given new vigor to meet the circumstances and needs of modern times” (Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium, 4). In the Latin Church, from among many local rites which, throughout centuries and alongside the Roman Rite, served as evidence of the rich- ness of the Christian liturgy, tradition and culture, only two rites were 1 In the context of liturgy renewal after the Second Vatican Council the terms “rite” and “liturgy” may be considered to be synonyms, although their meaning is not, in fact, identical; cf. A. M. Triacca, La Liturgia ambrosiana, [in:] La Liturgia: panorama storico generale, Genova 2002, p. 88 (Anàmnesis, 2).

  • The Holy See
The Holy See ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR AT THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF THE SACRED HEART Friday, 25 November 2005 Rector Magnificent, Distinguished Presidents and Professors, Doctors and Auxiliaries, Dear Students, I am very pleased to visit the Rome campus of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart to officially inaugurate the Academic Year 2005-2006. My thoughts turn at this moment to the other branches of the Athenaeum: to the main one in Milan, near the beautiful Basilica of St Ambrose, and to the ones in Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona and Campobasso. I would like the whole family of the "Catholic University" to feel united beneath God's gaze at this moment, at the beginning of the new stretch on its journey of commitment to science and training. With us here in spirit are Fr Gemelli and all the other men and women who forged the history of the Athenaeum with their enlightened dedication. We also feel the Popes close to us, from Benedict XV to John Paul II, who always had special ties with this University. My Visit today, in fact, is in continuity with the Visit my venerable Predecessor made five years ago to this seat of learning and for the same occasion. I address a cordial greeting to Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, President of the Toniolo Institute, and to the Rector Magnificent, Prof. Lorenzo Ornaghi, and I thank them both for their courteous words to me on behalf of all those present. I extend my greeting with respect to the other distinguished religious and civil figures who have 2 gathered here, particularly Sen.

Back issues € 2,00 L’O S S E RVATOR E ROMANO WEEKLY EDITION IN ENGLISH Unicuique suum Non praevalebunt Fiftieth year, number 32-33 (2509) Vatican City Friday, 11-18 August 2017 At the General Audience the Holy Father speaks about forgiveness All are sinners in need of God’s mercy At the General Audience on Wed- nesday, 9 August, the Holy Father spoke of God’s mercy as the driv- ing force of Christian hope. When Jesus forgives the sinful woman, the Pope said, his action causes scandal, because it overturns the dominant attitude of the time. In- stead of rejecting sinners, however, Jesus embraces them: those who are outcast, the “untouchable”. In- deed, the Pope observed, “Jesus feels compassion. Literally: Jesus feels his heart tremble”. In this way, “Christ’s heart embodies and reveals the heart of God, who, wherever there is a man or woman suffering, wishes healing, libera- tion, full life for him or her”. This astonishing attitude to those in desperate situations, even those who have made many mis- takes in life, marks our Christian identity with the stamp of mercy, and gives a sure foundation to our hope. It is important to remem- ber, recalled the Holy Father, that “we are all poor sinners, in need of God’s mercy which has the “God’s garden of forgiveness”, Andrea Marie Brueck (2010) power to transform us and to give us back hope”, and that to those “who understand this fundamental truth, God gives the most beauti- ful mission in the world”, which is Appeal for peace in Nigeria and Central African Republic to love our brothers and sisters, and to proclaim “the message of a mercy which He does not deny anyone”.

During the past few years I have been invited to present my seminars in London over 30 times, and each time the reception and response has been heartwarming. For the sake of brevity, I will share an experience I had in Las Vegas, UT, at the Paradise Valley SDA Church last February 26, 2005. After the Friday evening meeting, the first Elder told me: I want to go to invite a pastor of a church 300 yards down the road.
