2017 Annual Report
Report of the Board of Directors and the 2017 Annual Accounts/Financial Statements 2017 began with the Madrid Consultation organised in collaboration with the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-ICADE and the BBVA Group. The Consultation was held January 25 to 27 on the subject Economic and financial ethics in the digital age. The Foundation then worked on the May 18- 20 International Conference in the Vatican centred on the theme Constructive alternatives at a time of global upheaval: employment and human dignity in the digital age. The future of work and Christian ethics in the context of the digital revolution was further discussed in two conferences: the first in Italian held in Turin 23 September on People and Organisations in the era of the digital revolution. Transformations of work, competitiveness and inequality and the second in German in Berlin 15 - 16 November where the topic was Christian Social Ethics in the Digital Age. These meetings were stages in a process that aims to project into the future the experiences gained gradually over the years, as in 2017 we are approaching the threshold of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Foundation through St. John Paul II’s 1993 Motu Proprio. The ceremony for the third edition of the International "Business and Society" Award held May 18 and chaired by the Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin in the presence of the authors, the chairman of the Jury Cardinal Reinhard Marx and the secretary of the award committee Prof. Fr. Michael Konrad. The award ceremony was part of the Foundation’s international conference. -
Benedetto Xvi Bartolomeo I

Reliving the Music in the Journeys of Nuestra Señora De La Paz Y Buen Viaje: Antipolo Baroque to Twentieth-Century Manila Ma
Reliving the Music in the Journeys of Nuestra Señora de la Paz y Buen Viaje: Antipolo Baroque to Twentieth-century Manila Ma. -Jose Rizal A la Virgen María, 1880 The Philippine rites of Mary are many and varied, each with its own unique character and homegrown tradition. These range from solemn novena to ecstatic procession, quaint poem-and-flower offering to lilting song and dance, arduous pilgrimage to carefree fiesta. These may take place on land or river, country shrine or city basilica, small community inroad or wide, expansive boulevard. But all are marked by a massive outpouring of affection and tenderness. The cult of Mary in the Philippines has grown from simple folk expression in early times to an imposing display of organized faith in the colonial era, backed by the Church itself and the cabildo or city government (Summers 1998 204), and in more recent times, propped up by a network of wealthy patrons, schools, commercial establishments, and an assortment of civic, artistic and religious organizations. For a people who call themselves in a Marian hymn, “un pueblo amante de María” (a people who love Mary), and who address Mary as “Mama” in such familial terms, these rites represent distinct personal relationships with the Mother of God, hence the variety of expression. This paper focuses on Our Lady of Antipolo, one of the most popular and historic shrines in the country. Our Lady of Antipolo Antipolo is a small town southeast of Manila, situated on a foothill of the Sierra Madre mountain range in Luzon. -

Abp. Soc Calls Priests to Be 'Real Witnesses Amid Threats
CBCP APRIL 15 - 28, 2019, VOL 23, NO.Monitor 08 [email protected] PROTAGONIST OF TRUTH, PROMOTER OF PEACE Abp. Soc calls priests to be ‘real witnesses amid threats By Roy Lagarde PRIESTS are called to face “these dreary times of darkness” by being “real witnesses” amid “an angry disbelieving society,” a church official said on Holy Thursday. Those priests, said Archbishop Socrates Villegas of Lingayen- Dagupan, should also not be afraid to die or be killed for the Lord. “Brother priests, make friends with death. Let death not threaten you,” Villegas said in his Chrism Mass homily at the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Dagupan City. “The call to the priesthood is a call to die. It is clear. There is no priesthood without victimhood,” he said. To drive his point, the archbishop said that there’s nothing surprising with priests being threatened with death. In the first place, he said that priests should not have accepted ordination if they were afraid to die or be killed. “Death is not a threat. It is our destiny,” said Villegas, who is also a former president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.
