The Last Pope is a term which is associated with the prophecies of St Malachy. Remember that recently the Lord showed Peter in a dream to watch for March/April and October/November this year. Already we are seeing events of major significance to take place during these periods of time. This past Monday, February 11th, Pope Benedict XVI made the shocking announcement of his resignation due to his deteriorating health. Peter told me first thing that day and I immediately began to put together a teaching about Saint Malachy’s Last Pope Prophecy. 1 At the same time, the internet took off with this story because people who know about this prophecy immediately reacted as I did to the pope’s announcement of his resignation. This is the first time in 600 years that a pope has resigned. His last day in office will be February 28th and a conclave to elect the new pope is planned for mid-March. -

1 The Labyrinth at Chartres, the Malachy Prophecy, and Benedict XVI (Copyright 2013) Prologue The thing to be kept in mind when dealing with symbolism and trying to understand what it may mean in the context of the tradition within which it is considered, is that what matters are the beliefs and practices of the participants in that tradition, their frame of mind, their point of view, the way they perceive and interpret what happens from within their tradition, not what an “objective observer” might perceive, conceive, or deceive himself with from without that tradition. It is in that optic that we shall look at the prediction of the prophecy and the highly symbolic nature of the timing of both the announcement of the resignation of Benedict XVI and the effective date of that resignation.1 1. The Chartres Labyrinth and the Malachy Prophecy Saint Malachy (1094-1148) was Archbishop of Armagh in Ireland and is remembered for his reform and reorganization of the Irish church which he brought in obedience to Rome. He was canonized by Pope Clement III in 1190. Communio 41 (Summer 2014). © 2014 by Communio: International Catholic Review MARRIAGE AND THE FAMILY WITHIN THE CHURCH 227 Already during Vatican Council II, the Pastoral Con- stitution Gaudium et spes placed marriage and the family at the forefront of the urgent issues of our age.1 Since the publication of the encyclical Humanae Vitae, the 1980 Synod on the family, and John Paul II’s rich teaching on this subject,2 the Church has not ceased to follow with growing concern the evolution of mores and mentalities away from the heritage transmitted by biblical revelation and the Christian tradition. Pope Francis has compared the Church’s mission in the contemporary world to a “field hospital” that treats the many wounded strewn about a battlefield.3 The image per- fectly describes the situation of marriage and the family, which for several decades has experienced a serious deteriora- tion not only on the level of couples’ lived experience but also in legislation contrary to the traditional values of the family, promoted by groups of lobbyists who favor the dominant rela- tivistic mentality. -

TOMASZ BAĆ The Renewal of the Ambrosian and the Hispano-Mozarabic Liturgy after the Second Vatican Council The renewal of the liturgy and its general reform made after the Second Vatican Council generally concerns the Roman Rite, which all instruc- tions of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium refer to. The conciliar fathers were well aware of the fact that there is a need for renewing other rites and traditions existing in the Church.1 In the introduction to the first conciliar constitution it was stated that: “In faithful obedience to tradition, the sacred Council declares that holy Mother Church holds all lawfully acknowledged rites to be of equal right and dignity; that she wishes to preserve them in the future and to foster them in every way. The Council also desires that, where necessary, the rites be revised carefully in the light of sound tradition, and that they be given new vigor to meet the circumstances and needs of modern times” (Constitution Sacrosanctum Concilium, 4). Abstract Early sixteenth century radical Anabaptism emanated in Switzerland during Huldrych Zwingli’s protest against the Roman Catholic Church. Much like Martin Luther, Zwingli founded his reform effort on the Bible being the final arbiter of the faith, sola scriptura, and the sufficiency of the shed blood of Christ plus nothing for eternal salvation, sola fide. Based on these principles both adopted the doctrine of the Priesthood of the Believer which recognized every believer’s Spirit empowered ability to read and interpret the Bible for themselves. These initial theological tenets resulted in the literal reading of the Bible and a very pragmatic Christian praxis including a Pauline pneumatology that recognized the efficacy of the manifestation of the charismata. Radical adherents of Zwingli rejected infant baptism as being totally unbiblical and insisted upon the rebaptism of adults, but only on a personal confession of faith, thus the term Anabaptist. -

The Holy See ADDRESS OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE ACADEMIC YEAR AT THE CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF THE SACRED HEART Friday, 25 November 2005 Rector Magnificent, Distinguished Presidents and Professors, Doctors and Auxiliaries, Dear Students, I am very pleased to visit the Rome campus of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart to officially inaugurate the Academic Year 2005-2006. My thoughts turn at this moment to the other branches of the Athenaeum: to the main one in Milan, near the beautiful Basilica of St Ambrose, and to the ones in Brescia, Piacenza-Cremona and Campobasso. I would like the whole family of the "Catholic University" to feel united beneath God's gaze at this moment, at the beginning of the new stretch on its journey of commitment to science and training. With us here in spirit are Fr Gemelli and all the other men and women who forged the history of the Athenaeum with their enlightened dedication. We also feel the Popes close to us, from Benedict XV to John Paul II, who always had special ties with this University. My Visit today, in fact, is in continuity with the Visit my venerable Predecessor made five years ago to this seat of learning and for the same occasion. I address a cordial greeting to Cardinal Dionigi Tettamanzi, President of the Toniolo Institute, and to the Rector Magnificent, Prof. Lorenzo Ornaghi, and I thank them both for their courteous words to me on behalf of all those present.
