WSAVA Survey: Essential Medicines The WSAVA has been actively engaging various stakeholder groups globally to raise both awareness of and provide solutions for the differing access to and availability of veterinary therapeutics in various parts of the world – an issue that is both critical for maintaining standards of care, and ensuring animal welfare. For additional information please visit the WSAVA Therapeutics Guidelines Group(TGG) pages on the WSAVA website (https://wsava.org/committees/therapeutics-guidelines- group/).
Recently, the WSAVA TGG developed and released the first global list of Essential Medicines for Dogs & Cats (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/jsap.13135 ). Based on a process to the WHO list detailing essential medicines for human medicine, it provides essential medicines for dogs and cats in a format that takes into account drug categories and organ systems of key therapeutic use.
WSAVA is asking for your help in assessing the availability of these essential medicines in your country in an effort to better understand the scope and significance of the access to and availability of veterinary medicines issue globally.
Your responses will help direct further stakeholder discussions on the development of an action plan and the next steps to generate awareness, contemplate solutions, and lobby for change.
