CLINICAL ACTIVITIES Clinical Focus: Medical Director of Inpatient Pediatric Rehabilitation Co-Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy Attending Physician/Pediatric Hospitalist • Attending Physician providing daily medical care and oversight to patients on the pediatric rehabilitation service including management of medically complicated patients, chronic pain rehabilitation patients and spinal cord injury patients. Average patient load 8-10 patients per day. Lead daily medical rounds with medical team and nursing. • Manage referrals to inpatient rehabilitation unit. Direct outreach to other facilities and physicians as needed related to potential patients. Review records of potential patients. In conjunction with nursing staff, therapy staff and care management, plan for safe and appropriate admissions to the unit. • As Medical Director of Respiratory Therapy, provide medical oversight of Respiratory Therapy program on inpatient unit. Implement and review policies and procedures related to respiratory therapy care. • Provide education and leadership to inpatient faculty and staff to facilitate improved patient care including patient safety, satisfaction and outcomes. • Review events in Healthcare Safety Portal (including Peer review) related to inpatient hospital services and facilitate follow up education and/or remediation when necessary. • Collaborate with Outpatient Medical Director regarding management of On Call Physician Staff for inpatient units including hiring of new providers, orientation to inpatient unit, ongoing evaluations and education. Clinical Program Building / Leadership: Pain Rehabilitation Program Leadership: • I am the physician leader the Kennedy Krieger group working with the state of Maryland (through a pending grant) to develop educational resources for healthcare providers in Maryland regarding chronic pain management with the goal of decreasing the risk of opioid addiction in young adults. • I represent Kennedy Krieger’s pain rehabilitation program to the media in order to promote understanding and educate lay people on chronic pain in children and adolescents.
