2018 SAGE RIDGE VINEYARD CABERNET SAUVIGNON Napa Valley
WINEMAKER NOTES This Cabernet Sauvignon blend reigns from an iconic estate perched on a mountain on the Eastern side of Napa Valley. Overlooking Pritchard Hill and Lake Hennessey, the vineyard blocks of this dynamic property resemble patchwork, and each section is unique. The diversity of the soils, and that there are sedimentary soils present, may have been what appealed to legendary Winemaker Judy Jordan (also a Stanford-trained Geologist) when she purchased the estate. The 900-1400 feet elevation of the site dictates many of the qualities of the resulting wines. Low yielding vines produce intense flavors and concentration, increased UV light exposure and good air flow provide for optimal phenolic ripening and a prolonged growing season, both of which influence tannin structure. With Judy’s stewardship of the land and dedication to preci- sion farming, Sage Ridge Vineyard is definitely a name to watch!
TASTING NOTES This inaugural bottling has a deep black ruby hue, and is also jewel-like in its bril- liance. From cellar temp to room temp, and from decanter to final sip, the wine is ever changing and an experience to taste and enjoy. Aromas are brooding and include black violets, humidor, blackberries, red clay, vanilla bean, and fresh crushed herbs. The palate is layered with flavors of cassis, liquid dark chocolate, crème de menthe, and iron, and the structure is full bodied and powerful. With medium to fine grain tannin and excellent tension, length and power, this wine is delicious now and will age beauti- fully for 15+ years, especially in the 1.5 L format.
