Nadalina. Nadalina Massalin. My almost mythical great grandmother, the mother of my grandmother was born in Neresine, she is mythical for me because she has lived and was always only in my fantasy. I never met my bisnonna nor have I ever seen any of her appearance, there is not even a photograph of her. Nevertheless, she greatly impresses me: I like her, thinking of her I have always loved. I do not know why but, she always has a smile for me, she gives me the will, the pleasure to live: she tells me of her provenance but shields me from her fears, the injustices, the violence, the darkness and the tears of her times (above all of my mother) which I must endure and I am forced to associate with my outset every time we talk about it. Nadalina instead with innocence and happy unawareness tells me of her, “windy island” with its very beautiful Sea, the countryside, the olive trees, the quince trees and, above all the fruitful gardens so dependable for the daily meals.

    Trial by Fire – The 1866 Battle of Lissa and the Implications for the Future of the Royal Australian Navy The Battle of Lissa was a fleet engagement fought off the Adriatic island of Lissa (now Vis) between the Royal Italian Navy and that of the Austrian Empire in 1866. The battle saw the unexpected defeat of the Italian fleet and the Kingdom of Italy learn hard lessons from the unforgiving teacher that is armed conflict. One may well ask what possible implications an engagement fought at the dawn of the ironclad era in the narrow confines of the Adriatic could have for the 2019 Royal Australian Navy? This however would be to ignore several lessons which the battle offers the current and future Royal Australian Navy, insights that this essay will explore. This essay will contend that despite the passage of years the Battle of Lissa continues to hold implications worthy of examination and reflection, lessons about the importance of leadership, training, and learning. Lessons from the past, which remain timely and relevant for the future. The Battle of Lissa took place on the 20th of July 1866, and was fought between two forces utilising cutting edge technologies during an era of rapid technological innovation which outpaced traditional strategic and operational thinking. The two fleets present at Lissa numbered twelve Italian and seven Austrian ironclad warships as well as a number of older wooden ships. The entire ironclad force consisted of new ships constructed rapidly at great expense which incorporated some of the latest designs and technology of the day.

Ne viška, nego ulomaka! Kad god se susretnem s ovim evanđeoskim izvještajem, izazvan sam nezavršenošću scene; gdje li su završile košare, gdje li ulomci? Jesu li stigli do nas, što ćemo s njima? Drag mi je odgovor vjere Crkve: preostali ulomci neiscrpno traju tijekom dvije tisuće godina u Za tri dana napunit će se dvadeset godina euharistijskome kruhu, mnoštva se njime hrane, od rušenja voćinske drevne crkve i ubojstva a ulomaka ne ponestaje. Ali, stvar nije ni u nedužnih ljudi. Požeška biskupija nastoji pridonijeti kruhu, ni u ulomcima; stvar je u Isusovoj ljubavi trajnosti i čistoći zapamćenja tih događaja koja ih je umnožila, ona je u njima naznačena iskazivanjem dubokoga poštovanja žrtvama i i ostvarena, po njoj ulomci traju i mi se njome obnovom razorenoga svetog zdanja. Uvjeren u euharistiji hranimo. Sibenik je bio grad gdej je se moj otac u februaru tisucu devesto osamneste rodio... What is Military Chancellery? We are the so called “General Staff” for the various traditional regiments in the territory of former Austro-Hungarian Empire. Those regiments are existing in whole Austria, South-Tirol, Gorizia, Trieste, Slovenia, Czech Republik, Slovacia, Hungary and Poland. The most of them were founded after 1989, when it was possible to show the own history. The regiments have a strength of about 25.000 members – inkluding music bands in historical uniforms. There are not only infantry, but also cavalry, artillery, motor-corps and navy. We are organizing events in whole Central Europe, helping to get right uniforms and original weapons and we research in military history.
