1.1.4 Achievements  Successfully supervised nine (9) PhD students and twenty-nine (29) Master’s students (13 with Theses and 20 with Projects) since my appointment as an Associate Professor in September, 2011.  Published thirty-seven (37) publications in peer reviewed journals.  Written books, chapters in books and E-Learning modules.  Participated in various trainings as a resource person and/or facilitator.  Engaged in various consultancies both internal and external, including research work.  Awarded by the Vice Chancellors-Kenyatta University for Exemplary performance in recognition and appreciation of demonstrated commitment and hard Work in Dec 2012.  Engaged in community service and outreach.  Held different leadership and university management positions as Departmental Chairman, Examination coordinator, Director, Associate and Ag. Dean of Graduate School, in addition to chairing and being a member to many Committees and Boards in the university.  Participated in the development and review of academic programmes for my Department, School of Security, Diplomacy and Peace Studies as well as other institutions outside Kenyatta University.  Participated in grant proposals writing for the University.

1.6 Community Engagement and Other Contributions

1.6.1 Attracting Research and Development Funding: a) 2014/2015: Participated as a member of the committee that developed the Grant Proposal that resulted with winning the partnership between Kenyatta University and USAID for the hosting of Regional Leadership Centre -under USA President Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

b) Nov 2014: I participated as a member of the Committee that developed a research grant proposal that brought KSH. 5,300,000 ($58,889) to the University for the rehabilitation of Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga- the Agikuyu Shrine.

c) October 2014 to July 2015: Participated as a member of the committee that developed a research proposal in Dec 2013 for KSH. 4,760,300 ($ 51,958) as a research grant from Kenya Retirement Benefit Authority (RBA). The study in which I was one of the researchers was on the “Risks and opportunities associated with paying lump sum pension benefits to retirees in Kenya: implications for income security”.

d) November, 2012 to January, 2013: Participated as a member of the team who developed the technical proposal for UN Women to bid for Kenyatta University to host ‘Africa Centre for Inclusive Transformational Leadership’ Initial grant awarded to the University for the Project was $ 57,000,000.

1.6.2 Community Service and Outreach a. August, 2012: Nominated Board Member for the Collaborative Center for Gender and Development (An NGO based in Nairobi but whose programmes for poverty eradication, Girls and Women Empowerment Operate country wide and regionally.

b. 4th June 2019: Renewal of appointment as a member of the Board of Management Munyu Mixed Secondary School for three years.

c. 15th Dec, 2015: Renewal of appointment as a member of the Board of Management Munyu Mixed Secondary School for three years.

a) Guest speaker/Resource Person i. 6th August - 8th August, 2014: Participated as a guest speaker in a Postgraduate Supervision Africa Summit in Southern Sun OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg-South Africa; whose focus was: “show casing and discussing success and challenges in the postgraduate in the Continent”.

ii. 2012 to date: Participated as a resource person for Commission of University Education in Evaluation of Programmes from various Universities for accreditation.

iii. 8th June 2013: Invited as a guest speaker during Prize Giving Day Gathirimu Technical Girls School in Kiambu County.

iv. 28th Sept – 2nd Oct, 2015: Participated as a resource person and facilitator for the phase two of the revision of the Good Samaritan Programme (GSP) training manual (on HIV/AODS and Sexuality) in Nairobi supported by the United Bible Societies.

v. 5th Sept – 9th Oct, 2015: Participated as a lead facilitator of the annual capacity building workshop for the Good Samaritan HIV program in Nairobi, supported by the United Bible Societies.

vi. 6th – 10th July, 2015: Participated as a resource person and facilitator during the revision of the Good Samaritan Programme (GSP) training manual in Nairobi supported by the United Bible Societies.

vii. 9th -12th June 2015: Participated as a lead facilitator during the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development’s Education week.

b) Leading Research Project i. Participated as a lead researcher by the OXFAM on Women Care Work in Nairobi slums, Kenya in 18th Feb 2016.

Participated as a lead researcher in a collaborative research between Kenyatta University, Department of Gender and Development Studies and Claremont University, Department of Religious Studies, United States of America on “AIDS stigma: A Kenyan Case” from 1St Sept, 2015 -30th August 2016. iii. Participated as a lead investigator on Status of food Security in Kenya- a lead researcher in Kiambu and Murang’a Counties for a study on Status of Food Security in Kenya.

c) Developing programmes external to Kenyatta University

i. March 2019 to date: Appointed as an expert in the development of curriculum in Human Rights and Gender for the Pan Africa Virtual and E-University (PAVEU) which is one of AU’s flagship projects in addressing the Agenda 2063.

ii. 6th May- 10th May 2019: Participated in a meeting of experts supported by African Union Commission (ACU) in to deliberate on modalities and content for piloting of an E-Learning programme, suitable for ODel mode in Human Rights and Gender for the Pan Africa Virtual and E-University (PAVEU).

iii. 2012 to date: Trained and involved by Commission for University Education as a curriculum reviewer and has regularly participated as a Curriculum peer reviewer for programmes in Gender and Development Studies, Community Development and related programmes for various public and private universities across Kenya.

iv. March 2019 to date: Participates in Curriculum development for the African Women Studies Center of University of Nairobi as an external reviewer for Open learning and E- Learning Modules for the following programmes: March 2019- MAW 504: African Women and Public Policy; May, 2019-MAW 502: Women in Conflict Resolution and Peace Building in Africa; June, 2019: NDG 600: Theories and Concepts in Gender Analysis.

v. 19th February- 20th February, 2015: Participated as an external expert for the development of Postgraduate Diploma curriculum in Monitoring and Evaluation for the Department of Social and Development Studies, Mount Kenya University- in a Workshop held in Cleavers Hotel: Thika town.
