German Digital Kinderuniversity Faculty Nature Lecture River Width
German Digital Kinderuniversity Faculty Nature Lecture River Width PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: Hello, students. I’d like to welcome you all to the big state vocabulary exam. Have you learned all the words we introduced to you? MS. SCHLAU: Hold on, Professor. We have to delay the exam. PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: What?! Why? MS. SCHLAU: JOWO accidentally discovered a cheat sheet earlier. Apparently someone wants to cheat! PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: Really? MS. SCHLAU: JOWO, show us an example. The triangle ruler was prepared with a piece of white paper. On the back are vocabulary words, but when you put the triangle ruler on a sheet of white paper, you can’t tell that it was modified. PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: That is… That’s brilliant. I think whoever makes such a great cheat sheet should receive the best grade on the exam. MS. SCHLAU: What? No! We’re going to cancel the exam and schedule a replacement lecture. PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: What? Well, whatever you think. But please not something boring. MS. SCHLAU: Let’s call field researcher Christoph. PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: JOWO, please bring Christoph into the lecture hall. MS. SCHLAU: Hello, Christoph… CHRISTOPH: Oh, hello Ms. Schlau, hello Professor Einstein. What can I do for you? PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: We need an interesting lecture, and quick! Would you happen to have an idea? CHRISTOPH: Of course, we were just researching how you can measure the width of a river. PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: Without a cheat sheet? CHRISTOPH: Mhm, yes! PROFESSOR EINSTEIN: Oh, that is wonderful. Then let’s play the film. MS. SCHLAU: Oh, what a beautiful little river (FLUSS) Christoph discovered while hiking. -

Die Deutsche Nationalhymne
Wartburgfest 1817 III. When Britain first, at Heaven‘s command Arose from out the azure main; This was the charter of the land, And guardian angels sang this strain: „Rule, Britannia! rule the waves: „Britons never will be slaves.“ usw. Verbreitet waren Preisgesänge auf den Herrscher: Gott erhalte Franz, den Kaiser sang man in Österreich, God save the king in England, Boshe chrani zarja, was dasselbe bedeutet, in Rußland. Hierher gehören die dänische Hymne Kong Christian stod ved højen mast i røg og damp u. a. Die französische Revolution entwickelte eine Reihe von Revolutionsge- sängen, die durchweg recht brutal daherkommen, wie zum Beispiel das damals berühmte Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira, Les aristocrates à la lanterne! Ah! ça ira, ça ira, ça ira, Les aristocrates on les pendra! also frei übersetzt: Schaut mal her, kommt zuhauf, wir hängen alle Fürsten auf! Auch die blutrünstige französische Nationalhymne, die Mar- seillaise, stammt aus dieser Zeit: Allons enfants de la patrie. -

Greg Garrard) The contrast between the largely enthusiastic response to ecocriticism in the Anglophone academy and its relative invisibility in the German-speaking world is a puzzle. Why has it yet to gain wider recognition as a field of literary study in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, countries in whose philosophy and cultural tradition nature features so prominently, whose people are shown by international surveys of public opinion to show a high degree of environmental concern, and where environmental issues rank consistently high on the political agenda? One reason may be that German scientists, political thinkers and philosophers have been pioneers in ecology since Humboldt and Haeckel, and non-fiction books have served as the primary medium of public debate on environmental issues in Germany. -

Scattered Thoughts on Trauma and Memory*
Scattered thoughts on trauma and memory* ** Paolo Giuganino Abstract. This paper examines, from a personal and clinician's perspective, the interrelation between trauma and memory. The author recalls his autobiographical memories and experiences on this two concepts by linking them to other authors thoughts. On the theme of trauma, the author underlines how the Holocaust- Shoah has been the trauma par excellence of the twentieth century by quoting several writing starting from Rudolf Höss’s memoirs, Nazi lieutenant colonel of Auschwitz, to the same book’s foreword written by Primo Levi, as well as many other authors such as Vasilij Grossman and Amos Oz. The author stresses the distortion of German language operated by Nazism and highlights the role played by the occult, mythological and mystical traditions in structuring the Third Reich, particularly in the SS organization system and pursuit for a pure “Aryan race”. Moreover, the author highlights how Ferenczi's contributions added to the developments of the concept of trauma through Luis Martin-Cabré exploration and detailed study of the author’s psychoanalytic thought. Keywords: Trauma, memory, testimony, Holocaust, Shoah, survivors, state violence, forgiveness, Höss, Primo Levi, Karl Jaspers, Martin Heidegger, Vasilij Grossman, Amos Oz, Ferenczi, Freud, Luis-Martin Cabré. In memory of Gino Giuganino (1913-1949). A mountaineer and partisan from Turin. A righteous of the Italian Jewish community and honoured with a gold medal for having helped many victims of persecution to cross over into Switzerland saving them from certain death. The London School of Economics and Political Science a Neoliberalizing
The London School of Economics and Political Science A neoliberalizing Chinese cinema: political economy of the Chinese film industry in post-WTO China Xiaoxi Zhu A thesis submitted to the Department of Media and Communications of the London School of Economics for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy London, March 2019 1 Declaration I certify that the thesis I have presented for examination for the MPhil/PhD degree of the London School of Economics and Political Science is solely my own work other than where I have clearly indicated that it is the work of others (in which case the extent of any work carried out jointly by me and any other person is clearly identified in it). The copyright of this thesis rests with the author. Quotation from it is permitted, provided that full acknowledgement is made. This thesis may not be reproduced without my prior written consent. I warrant that this authorisation does not, to the best of my belief, infringe the rights of any third party. I declare that my thesis consists of 71012 words. 2 Abstract This thesis aims to investigate the industry restructuration of the Chinese film industry in the context of China integrating into the global neoliberal capitalist system since its WTO entry in 2002. By interrogating the power dynamics between the Party-state, domestic capital and transnational media capital, this thesis explores respective roles each of the three stakeholders have played in shaping the commercialization and marketization of the Chinese film industry. Methodically, this thesis primarily relies on elite interviews with industry professionals, together with critical discourse analysis of one key policy document, and secondary data collected from news outlets, trade publications, industry reports, etc.
