Tel Aviv and the metropolitan area of Gush Dan. Tel Aviv is located in Dan. The city of Joppa (Jaffa), on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, was a part of the territory inherited by the tribe of Dan. Joppa is today a part of the municipality of the city of Tel Aviv, which is also located on the land that was allocated to the tribe of Dan. The modern city of Tel Aviv was founded by Zionists in 1909, and came to prominence as a business and cultural center following Israel’s independence in 1948. The large metropolitan area of which Tel Aviv is a part is known as Gush Dan, for the area is located on the land allocated to the tribe of Dan.
