Facts about Combat Vehicle 90 (CV90, or ” grkpbv 90”) As a result of the Defence Agreement of 2015, the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) signed a business agreement in December 2016 with HB Utveckling (HB Development) – a joint cooperation between BAE Systems Bofors AB and BAE Systems Hägglunds AB – about the delivery of 40 Combat Vehicles 90 (CV90, or ” grkpbv 90”).

Combat Vehicle 90 is to be supplied to the Armed Forces’ five mechanised battalions, based at the Skaraborg Regiment (P4) in Skövde (the 41st and 42nd), the Norrbotten Regiment (I19) in Boden (the 191st and 192nd) and at the Södra Skånska Regiment (P7) at Revingehed (the 72nd). The initial four regular CV90 vehicles will be delivered at the ceremony in Skövde on 19 September. The remaining 36 CV90 vehicles will gradually be delivered in 2019 and 2020, when the system will become operational.

With grenade launchers installed on the Combat Vehicle 90 chassis, the platoon will be capable to deploy and fire within 2 minutes after the order is given, with fire velocity equal to the current folded out guns. Only 1 minute after the concluding opening of fire, the CV90 is ready to redeploy. During the whole process, the crew is protected by a new splinter screen that did not exist on the previous version.

In comparison, it takes 10 minutes for a vehicle equipped with the current grenade launcher M/41 to deploy and fire, and another 5 plus 10 minutes to redeploy to launch another round of fire. That is also entirely without the protection which has now been installed on the 90 chassis. The CV90 is staffed with a driver, a vehicle chief who is also in charge of directions with support of the vehicle’s navigation system, and two loaders preparing and handling all ammunition.
