Der Letzte Romantiker Er Galt Lange Als Verschollenes Genie – Aber Jetzt Meldet Sich Der Brite Paddy Mcaloon Zurück POP & JAZZ Der letzte Romantiker Er galt lange als verschollenes Genie – aber jetzt meldet sich der Brite Paddy McAloon zurück. er Mann mit dem wirren, grauen Vollbart sieht D nicht aus wie ein Popmusiker, eher wie ein irrer Schachweltmeister. Das passt, denn Paddy Mc- Aloon, 52, entsprach nie den Klischees seiner Zunft, fiel immer etwas aus dem Rahmen, so wie die Musik seiner Band Prefab Sprout. Mit denen lieferte der kauzige Brite einige der hinreißendsten Platten der achtziger und neunziger Jahre. Sanfte Meisterwerke wie „Steve McQueen“ oder „Andromeda Heights“, deren raffinierte Pop-Songs von Kritikern gern mit den Klassikern von Paul McCartney oder Burt Bacha- rach verglichen wurden. Aber weil McAloon Ruhm nicht geheuer war und auch seine Gesundheit anfäl- lig, zog er sich zurück und galt bald als verschollenes Genie. Nun erscheint wie aus dem Nichts „Let’s Change the World With Music“,ein neues Prefab-Sprout-Album. Musiker McAloon: Lieder, Eine phantastische Platte, die mit ihren teils gewöh- die für die Ewigkeit taugen nungsbedürftigen, übersynthetischen Beats zwar wie aus der Zeit gefallen klingt, aber voll ist mit Liedern, die wie immer für die Ewigkeit taugen.     Finezza e genialità Paddy McAloon, genio misconosciuto del pop inglese, offre la riedizione rimasterizzata del suo più trascurato capolavoro / 28.01.2019 di Benedicta Froelich Uno degli aspetti più frustranti della scena rock internazionale risiede senz’altro in quel triste fenomeno che, da parecchi anni a questa parte, vede molti dei nomi più artisticamente interessanti soccombere davanti alle regole del mercato e dello star system, e sparire così nell’ombra ben prima del tempo, senza aver ottenuto i legittimi riconoscimenti. Accade perciò che un genio indiscusso come l’angloirlandese Paddy McAloon – classe 1957, mente e voce della band dei Prefab Sprout – rimanga a tutt’oggi perlopiù sconosciuto al grande pubblico. Nonostante il suo gruppo abbia beneficiato di un discreto successo a cavallo tra gli anni 80 e 90 grazie a brani pop accattivanti quali The King of Rock’n’Roll e Hey Manhattan!, i maggiori capolavori di songwriting da lui firmati (come Jordan: The Comeback e Andromeda Heights) non sono mai stati compresi o apprezzati fino in fondo dalle masse; e il lungo silenzio discografico della band – infine interrotto dalla pubblicazione dell’ottimo Let’s Change the World with Music (2009) – ha fatto dello schivo e sfuggente Paddy una sorta di guru della scena rock, da molti salutato come la «primula rossa» del cantautorato anglosassone.     Rock Album Discography Last up-date: September 27th, 2021 Rock Album Discography “Music was my first love, and it will be my last” was the first line of the virteous song “Music” on the album “Rebel”, which was produced by Alan Parson, sung by John Miles, and released I n 1976. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

    A Conversation with Thomas Dolby by Frank Goodman (7/2007, Puremusic.com) I got an email recently from a publicist friend of mine that read something like: Would you like to talk with producer Thomas Dolby about the reissue of Prefab Sprout's 1985 pop classic, Steve McQueen? (What's your next question, I wondered, would I be interested in a date with Scarlett Johannsen?) By the time of Prefab Sprout's second release, Steve McQueen, Paddy McAloon had been recognized by critics and serious fans alike as one of the most important songwriters of the '80s. His lyrical lexicon and melodic invention bloomed in the synth pop atmosphere of The Smiths and The Cure, Scritti Polliti and ABC with a more macho intelligence, minus the cotton candy or the constipated vocal stylings. Prefab Sprout had already made critical leaps and a reputation with the precedent CD Swoon, but in a moment of brilliant serendipity engaged the zeitgeist genius of Thomas Dolby to bring their musical muscle to the masses. Steve McQueen, once the McQueen estate bridled at the title, was released in the US as Two Wheels Good. The singles and albums charted more seriously in the UK than in the States, but it did remarkably well here, considering how smart the music was. When you listen to the four clips on the Listen page, we'll bet that you recognize at least two of the songs, even if you don't know the group by their name, or the name of their creator Paddy McAloon. It was fascinating talking with Thomas Dolby about the group, the music and the time-- he's ever sharp, very eloquent, and a very witty character.
