Funding Available
The Hythe Institute Fund considers applications for funding from local organisations including schools, scouts and guide groups, sports clubs and the trustees of local halls and facilities; who may require funds for maintenance or improvements.
The recipients must be in the Hythe parish (including Hythe, Seabrook, Saltwood, Palmarsh, Lympne and Newingreen).

As well as cooking delicious dishes for you to enjoy at home, we’re also cooking meals to give to NHS staff at the William Harvey Hospital and to local vulnerable people in need during this challenging time. These meals are free to those that need them and are funded by donations. 12 13 Local help during Covid19 pandemic No one should feel as though they are alone during this challenging time. Folkestone, Hythe & Romney Marsh are pulling together and your community is here to help to:
• Provide food for those not able to get or prepare it themselves • Assist with the collection and delivery of food orders • Collect and deliver medical supplies • Walk dogs • Offer someone to talk to for advice and reassurance
Assistance is not limited to the above - we will try and assist our vulnerable residents in any way we can.
Anyone who cannot go out (whether self-isolating, immobile or unwell) and who does not have support networks (friends, family, neighbours) to do this for them should contact the Community Hub in their area.
There are three Community Hubs serving our area. They are run by volunteers and supported by Folkestone & Hythe District staff and resources.

There is also a helpline set up by Kent County Council that covers the whole of Kent and is available 24/7 at 03000 41 92 92 or www.kent.gov.uk/KentTogether
It doesn’t matter which number you choose to make contact as your County and District Council are working closely together with the NHS, emergency services and the Community Hubs to ensure people get the support they need, when they need it.
You can volunteer to help if you are not one of the at risk group who should be self-isolating (although anyone can volunteer to make phone calls).

Council Services:
Council offices are closed to personal callers but most staff are still working and contactable on the usual email and telephone numbers. Formal council meetings are cancelled but much work is still continuing by email and tele/video conferencing. You can also still contact your local councillor by phone or email (see the council website). The kerbside waste and recycling services are running as normal.
15 The Household Waste Recycling Centres are closed (their staff are helping with the kerbside collections).
Libraries are closed but you can still borrow e-books and e- magazines.
We have given priority in our services to supporting the most vulnerable and our staff are coping with a reduction in numbers because of sickness and the need for some to self-isolate. At this exceptional time, please make allowances and be patient when you contact us for ‘normal’ business. We thank all those helping our community during the pandemic and ask you all to continue to take care of yourselves and each other.

Covid -19
Let me begin by thanking everyone for their response to the situation we all find ourselves in. The majority have stayed at home and when venturing out respect the safety guidelines.
Since the lockdown many planned meetings have been cancelled or postponed however I do have regular virtual meetings with the teams managing the areas falling under my Cabinet Portfolio. We are all getting used to working from home however some of our officers and partner agencies, particularly those looking after the vulnerable, still need to carry out tasks which cannot be done from home. Notwithstanding that they respect social distancing and protect themselves they should all be commended for their dedication.
The Councils grateful to the many volunteers who helped set up and man the three Community Hubs which are helping and supporting the Community from Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh. My fellow Councillors Susan Carey and Jenny Hollingsbee have previously advertised details of these and full information can be found at. https://www.folkestone- hythe.gov.uk/community-hub.
I am also pleased that fellow Cabinet Member Stuart Peall has been able to maintain all waste collection services.
We are planning to have our first virtual Council meetings during May which residents will be able to view live on line. Details can be found on the published Calendar https:// www.folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/your-council/council-meetings
Many of us are taking the advisory exercise by walking out from home and in the rural areas rediscovering our country side. This often means walking the footpaths through farmlands and whilst there have been several reminders on social media to keep dogs on leads to protect farm animals, 17 particularly new-born lambs, we should also be mindful not to trample on any emerging crops on arable land.
Finally, from a personal perspective, I do find that the slowdown in the pace of life with quiet roads and skies gives time for reflection and recalling the days of Sunday closing would not be averse to them returning in the future.

This is the tale of Hana, a young girl who moves from where she was born in London, to the Kent coast. They discover a wonderful area called Prince's Parade which is full of amazing animals, has a beautiful canal and is right next to the sea too! By buying this book you will be helping to protect it. All profits from it will be donated to the Save Prince's Parade campaign which aims to halt plans to develop the area into a housing estate.
