Acolyte Levels
Novice Acolyte - wears a wood cross: The following list is what you will learn and accomplish
o How to vest o Attentively perform duties at altar – for o How to put away vestments example: opening/closing altar railing gate at appropriate times, retrieving ciborium o How to light candles for Eucharist & water, etc. o The order of procession o Will attend Sunday School and return at o How to process – opening, closing the Peace as appropriate. o Identify and memorize – The Collect for o Helps Ushers & Altar Guild after the Purity, The Gloria, The Kyrie, and The service to tidy the worship space (pick up Trisagion. worship programs and litter, re-set o Participate actively in worship , follow worship books, envelopes, etc.) along in the worship program and sing the hymns. Once you have mastered these items and have had them marked off by the Acolyte Master or Priest, you will graduate to being a Junior Acolyte.
Junior Acolyte – wears a silver cross: The following list is what you will learn and accomplish
o How to carry processional cross o How to identify all the items on the o How to lead the Gospel procession credence table o How to ring bells during Eucharistic prayer o Identify & Memorize – Nicene Creed, The Sanctus, and The Lord’s Prayer o How Identify all items/linens on the altar o Remains throughout the entire service
Once you have mastered these items and have had them marked off by the Acolyte Master or Priest, you will graduate to being a Senior Acolyte.
Senior Acolyte – will be gifted with a cross of their own!
The following is what you will learn as a Senior Acolyte
o How to carry Gospel Book o Assist Priest setting the Altar during o How to set the Eucharistic Table worship o How to set the Credence Table o Use of Thurible and Boat
Those that wish to continue to progress in knowledge and liturgical practice and are over 16 years old may then seek to become licensed as a Eucharistic Minister.
