10 years of Brose door systems from Meerane Coburg/Meerane (21. May 2007) On 12 May, 2007, the Brose plant in Meerane celebrated its 10-year anniversary. Established in 1997, the Brose plant in Meerane, one of the Brose Group’s 27 production facilities, was the first plant to produce and supply door systems in line with the car production schedule, paving the way for the 11 JIS plants which the international automotive supplier has set up in Europe and overseas over the last ten years. The complex process and logistics management involved represents the highest stage of development in the partnership between the automaker and the supplier focusing on cost effectiveness and speed. Its consistently good performance and quality has made Brose Meerane a reliable partner. I would especially like to thank all the plant’s employees who have helped to maintain this high level of quality and supply reliability through their commitment and dedication,” said Jürgen Trautmann, head of industrial engineering at VW Sachsen during the event in the Stadthalle in Glauchau/Saxony. A satisfied customer is the best reward for our efforts to deliver world class products from every plant of the Brose Group,” said plant manager Jörg Graichen, adding:” This is not the time however to get complacent and be satisfied with what we have achieved.” He continued: I would like to congratulate my team on their dedicated work and to thank the Brose shareholders for trust they have placed in us.” Approx. 31 million euros have been invested in establishing and enlarging Brose’s facility in Meerane over the last ten years. The main criteria behind the decision ten years ago to establish a location in Meerane’s industrial park included its excellent infrastructure and its close proximity to the customer. Another advantage was the large number of highly qualified staff in Saxony, a region which has traditionally been strongly influenced by the automotive industry. When it went operational in 1997, there were approx. 80 employees working at the plant; today that headcount has doubled. Currently Brose Meerane with 160 employees supplies door systems for the Passat to the Volkswagen plant of Mosel near Zwickau as well as to the VW plant of Emden. It also supplies Skoda in the Czech Republic where the Superb is built. The ramp-up for the production of window regulators for the Daimler Chrysler C-Class will have commenced here as well by mid-2008. In order to safeguard the long-term future capability of the location, the management and works council concluded agreements early on, paving the way for adjusting cost structures to the demands of the market and retaining the plant’s competitive edge. This has enabled the plant to win new delivery orders for the upcoming years. This year, the manufacturing facilities at Brose Meerane have been fundamentally restructured in preparation for new customer projects. One of the most challenging projects in the history of the plant will commence in 2009 when it begins delivery of door systems for Porsche, the sports car manufacturer. In addition to the sedan, Meerane will also be supplying door systems for the Passat coupé which is to be built in Emden. Furthermore, the Brose plant in Meerane won the contract to equip another Volkswagen car model with door systems from mid-2008. There are more than 9,100 employees at almost 40 locations in 20 countries working for Brose, the international automotive supplier, which supplies more than 40 vehicle brands and leading seat manufacturers with mechatronic components and systems for vehicle doors and seats. Every fourth vehicle produced worldwide is equipped with at least one Brose product..
