Welcome to Old Northamptonians RFC 2019 / 2020
A warm welcome to Billing Road to our visitors from Peterborough RUFC, on what we hope is a fine early Autumnal afternoon that is well suited to open & expansive rugby.
From last season's form I expect today's visitors will be in the mix at the top of the table come April. So for ONs, as we seek to improve on our mid-table finish last season, this will be a big test with the end result having implications on the rest of the season.
Last season saw the corresponding fixture going narrowly with the home side, I would like to hope that the excellent pre-season training, a scattering of last season's all conquering Colts & some key players returning to the club can help ONs 1st XV to replicate that result. Either way, I am sure it will be a cracking game & I am certainly looking forward to this curtain raiser of the 2019-20 season.
Of the other sides, ONs 2nds entertain Peterborough 2s, as they hope to build on their EMRU Merit table success of last season. The 3rds are away at Mens Own while the Academy play Towcestrians away, where it is hoped the improved relationship with NSB regarding selection of players will show mutual benefits.
Building work continues on the new changing rooms here at Billing Road, so unfortunately spectators will not be able to enjoy the benefits of the new balcony, which we hope to have available for the big Sport September Weekend of 20th-22nd September. This facility, when completed, will prove to be a great asset to our match day experience.
To finish, I'd also like to welcome our match officials from the East Midlands Referees Society, our old friend Peter Caunt who is looking after the 1sts & whoever is appointed to take control of the 2nds, as always please treat them & their decisions with the respect they deserve.
Have a great afternoon whatever your involvement and may the best team on the day win.
Dave Howland Old Northamptonians RFC Club Chairman

Final League Table 2018 / 19 Season
Last season’s Champions Kettering deservedly won promotion to the Midlands Premier league (Level 5). Paviors, as runners up by narrowly winning their home play-off vs Dudley Kingswinford 33-30, also gain promotion. Derby & Syston were relegated from Midlands Premier so re-join our league this season.

Relegated from our league to Level 7 were Melton Mowbray, Northampton Old Scouts & Leighton Buzzard. Replacing them come Champions of Midlands East 2 North & South respectively, Melbourne & Olney. They will be joined by Market Harborough, (South runners up) who beat North runners up Dronfield 25-21 after extra time (& with 14 men after an early red card!) to be the 5th new opponents this season.
ONs finished a disappointing mid table 8th last season but have been training hard to be ready for the challenge of what we know will again be a very competitive Midlands 1 East League, kicking off against old rivals Peterborough who did really well to come 4th having been promoted the previous season.
