Contact us via: www.simplybusiness.co.uk/ or on 0333 014 6683 Welcome to Old Northamptonians RFC 2019 / 2020 A warm welcome to Billing Road to all our visitors this weekend from Syston, Bugbrooke, Luton & Olney rugby clubs, on what is forecast to be a fine afternoon in this “Indian Summer”. The weather should be well suited to open & expansive rugby, although the surfaces will be very firm despite extensive watering this week. This weekend sees the return of what last year proved to be a very popular extravaganza of sport & entertainment aptly titled “September Reloaded”. It promises to be an amazing few days providing much enjoyment both on & off the pitch! The proceedings get underway on Friday night with the opening of the new balcony extension to the already impressive clubhouse, followed by a floodlit Vets game between ONs & Olney at 7.30pm. Saturday provides a full-on day of Rugby: following earlier NSB school matches on the ONs pitches there are under 11s &12s games against Syston at 12.45pm, closely followed by the ONs 3rds playing Bugbrooke.2nds in an EMRU Merit League game. At 3.00pm ONs 1st XV take on Syston in a top of the table clash - both teams are currently unbeaten with bonus points from each game played. Past league games between the 2 sides have always been tight & competitive, I’m sure this will be no different as Syston strive to make an immediate return to Level 5. On the other pitch also 3pm KO ONs 2nds will be taking on a side from Luton while at 5pm ONs Academy take centre stage with a game against local rivals Bugbrooke. As you can see there will be an absolute plethora of Rugby to be enjoyed. I'd also like to welcome all our match officials from the East Midlands Referees Society & hope they all also enjoy their day & add to the spectacle Off the pitch there is also plenty to enjoy: the morning Run a Mile competition offers mass participation across our younger age groups. The beer festival, gin bar; food court & raffle will offer enjoyment to many of our older members & guests, while for those with any energy left the evening will be topped off with some excellent live music. With the fantastic balcony now complete focus is now on finishing off the work on the changing rooms. None of the above would have happened without a great deal of effort made by our hard-working Committee & other volunteers; too many to mention by name here (but who know you are). The whole club owes them a great debt & the new extension will provide a lasting legacy for all current & future ONs. In whatever way you are involved this weekend please have a fantastic fun rugby experience. With all best wishes from me, come on England, Go Well!!!! Both Syston & Derby were related from Midlands Premier last season so look like they are determined to make immediate returns. Oundle have similar ambitions having strengthened even more from last season with ex Saint Darren Fox joining in the summer making at least 8 former Peterborough Lions players in their ranks. The youthful ONs side, containing 15 “graduates” from the M&J/Academy, are also up there having won both their matches both of which to be honest could have gone either way – whatever we’ll take the points! 4 sides also lost their first 2 games, Wellingborough having the heaviest defeats, while Olney & Melbourne are still looking to find their feet at this level having been promoted as league winners last season. Oadby Wyggs were 3rd last season winning 18 games so sure with their massive pack they’ll be back near the top within weeks! Indeed it will be a couple of months yet before the picture becomes clearer, also when the heavier pitches no doubt take their toll so no predictions from me at this early stage as there don’t seem to be any easy wins in what looks like a very strong league for Level 6! Gate Post Harrogate Rugby Union Football Club Founded 1871 Gate Post No. 119 February 2021 This newsletter is sent to all the supporters, current and past members of Harrogate Rugby Club for whom we have an email address. Your contributions would be most welcome along with your feedback. Burns Night January 25th is the birthday of Robert Burns and the Harrogate Touchline Internationals, always looking for an excuse for a celebration, would traditionally join together for a night out and a wee dram. Roy Guy recalls one Burns Night in particular. ‘Thinking of this took me back to a TI Burns Night Supper held at Claro Road in the small room later used as an office. My outstanding recollections are that the room was overcrowded, and I spent the evening being jammed against the wall by a very large Leo Niemic. When it was time to toast the haggis someone produced what was said to be a Burns first edition poetry book and the owner, together with our greatly lamented Glyn Smith, whilst attempting to find the correct passage, recklessly handled and thumbed through it as though it was a cheap magazine. Alcohol may have played a part in their behaviour.’ The photograph shows some of the TIs in the Claro Road office ready to celebrate. Left to right: Gordon Ogilvie, Brian Hemming, Glyn Smith, Malcolm Spark, David Bowen. Who’s Who Fotherby, David. Junior Chairman and Ground Secretary 2005 to 2007. Fowler, George. George appears on the Colts team photograph in 1948 and on the 1st XV photograph 1952/1953.

With most of fixtures at Step 6 and above called off because of the dreaded Coronavirus, it was down to one of the feeder leagues to get my fix today. So, not wanting to catch anything on public transport, apart from a train or two of course, I elected to drive to my game and I picked one that is, as far, as I know, very difficult to do by public transport. It took me just over two hours to get here and the ground is adjacent to the village hall, not that they really need one, as this is a very small village. The changing rooms are wooden and here I bumped into the jovial home management team, who pointed me in the direction of the local pub. After my recent experience of paying £4 for a pulled pork roll at the Hampshire FA ground, I thought that I couldn’t do any worse here. I was wrong. The chilli con carne with pasta with garlic bread (two slices) for £4.50 looked tempting and when it arrived it tasted nice. Problem was that it came in a large coffee mug! Back at the ground I mentioned this to my ‘trip advisor’ who told me, “I forgot to tell you that the food’s not very good!" Perhaps the clue was that no one came around to ask me if I was enjoying my meal, possibly because I didn't give them time, as I ate it in a few mouthfuls! Anyway, by now we were ready to go and once the rotund ref had finished off his fag the game soon got underway.

  • Edition 10: 20Th September 2013
Edition 10: 20th September 2013 Rugby World Cup 2015 Lead Up and Legacy Activity The RFU launched the seven strands of its national Lead up and Legacy plan on October 31st 2012. The aim of this is to set out an overall framework against which national resource will be invested in the lead up to RWC 2015 with the aim of increasing interest and participation in the game. Whilst many Clubs, CBs, Schools, Colleges, Universities and other bodies are working hard to develop local projects to meet identified local need these seven strands are areas in which we will invest national resource to create change in Rugby communities across the country. It is hoped that those delivery bodies that have not yet identified their focus will focus in on these areas and take action to improve provision and opportunities against these themes. Six Regional Activation and Legacy Groups are now up and running and are working to add value to the seven strands and to engage partners from outside of the immediate rugby community in supporting the efforts of those within it. Each group is populated by representatives from CBs and from the wider community. Attached as an appendix to this CB update is a brief overview of progress against the seven strands along with listings of clubs/projects etc involved to date – this will be updated for each issue. In addition to the work against the seven strands strong working relationships have been established with England Rugby 2015, the Organising Body for the tournament itself, and an update on relevant areas are also included in the appendix.

OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDED 1923 OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS LEAD PARTNER SPONSOR: GROUND ENTRY FREE – PROGRAMME BY DONATION ONRFC Programme Sponsors: -------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to Old Northamptonians RFC 2019 / 2020 I would like to welcome all the players & supporters of West Bridgford, our opposition today, for what I’m certain will be another hard-fought game at Billing Road. Last season the ONs were victorious both home & away against our visitors, but recent results would suggest the ONs will have to play up to their strengths to maintain or improve on their current 5th place slot. West Bridgford are currently lying just one place below & with a game in hand so it’s definitely game on! Having had a few issues recently against large (Leicester) packs I’m sure the 1st team coaching team & squad will be working hard during the week to improve this area of the game in order to release a back line that can match any in the league. Today’s referee is Gareth Langley, Central Federation, let’s hope he encourages a more flowing game than last week at Wyggs! We also welcome Nuneaton U18s to Billing Road for a friendly against the ONs Academy. I had the good fortune to watch our U18s in the National Cup last week against Syston - one of Leicestershire’s finest - the 49:5 demolition shows what strength we have coming through & I am sure they will go far in the competition as it enters the National stages. Great work from the Academy coaching team bringing on our next crop of Old Northamptonians into the senior set up.

  • PGRFC Response to the RFU New Competition Proposals
PGRFC response to the RFU New Competition proposals Executive Summary • The proposed RFU structure addresses many issues, but too much regionalisation risks losing competitive matches and less matches, if Saturday loses the ‘this is the day I play rugby’ tag, risks player retention and would adversely impact on income and hence sustainability. • We suggest an alternative flatter structure with less geographical sub-division and leagues of 14 teams – we believe confining our opposition to Northern counties is appropriate. It meets player concerns on number of matches and travel time, would reduce our cost base whilst maintaining attractive fixtures to support club sustainability. It provides a guaranteed number of 1st XV home games sufficiently early to support planning of adequate match day income generating opportunities and provides a profile that would appeal to a range of club sponsors and ideally a title sponsor for the league. • If this is not feasible, the adoption of the RFU proposed structure is workable although reduced games at level 5 poses a threat to player retention and commercial sustainability. It would be considerably enhanced by the introduction of well policed, mandatory salary cap levels with clear severe sanctions for non-compliance and the adoption of an end of season play-off and League cup competition. • Wage inflation in the community game must be brought under control. If there is no change to the salary cap structure, and clubs are still allowed to opt out of the system it is difficult to see the current wage-inflation issues being managed with the resulting adverse impact on sustainability.
