Don’t miss Gary’s superb matchday photos from a hop down to Kent for Corinthian (v Leighton Town) in the FA Vase Quarter-Final played on 07/03/20…now uploaded to the FGIF album gallery… Gary writes via E-Mail (sent on 08/03): ‘It was definitely the magic of the Vase yesterday!! Another excellent quirky Kent ground and a brilliant game. Corinthian took the lead on 8 minutes. Two minutes later it was level. Two minutes later it was 2-1. It was an explosive start. No more goals before half time but it was end to end stuff with shots, saves, no quarter given and no quarter asked for! Two minutes into the second half and Leighton Town equalised. More shots, saves and thudding tackles before Leighton Town took the lead after 65 minutes to the delight of their travelling fans. More pulsating cup tie action followed until on 84 minutes Corinthian equalised. Extra time beckoned. An extra half hour would have been brilliant! Then the final twist - 93 minutes in and Corinthian scored the winner. Cue wild scenes of celebration and the end of a fantastic game of football. Credit to both sides - brilliant entertainment!!’.     Good evening and a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Rushall Olympic, we do hope you enjoy your short stay with us before having a safe journey home. Rushall have made a solid start to this season’s campaign suffering only one defeat in their first 7 league games. A competitive club that are always in and around the playoffs, they will be looking to continue that form. Managed by former Barwell players, Liam Macdonald and Nick Green, they will have done their homework on us, so as ever we will be expecting a tough encounter. A well run club from top to bottom and in their second year with an artificial pitch the club is a good role model for non-league football. Both clubs know that this encounter between us will take place again at Rushall on Saturday in the Buildbase FA Trophy, it’s ironic how these consecutive fixtures seem to happen. We finally got our first win against Nuneaton Borough, which has brought a lot of relief to all connected with the club. I’m sure that will bring a lot of confidence, let’s hope we can kick on from here and get back into the mix on the league front. Finally for tonight, I’m pleased to announce that Jason Ashby owner of UK Flooring Direct has agreed to extend his sponsorship for a further 3 years with the club. He has also made a five figure donation to our fundraising effort for our 3G pitch project. With most of fixtures at Step 6 and above called off because of the dreaded Coronavirus, it was down to one of the feeder leagues to get my fix today. So, not wanting to catch anything on public transport, apart from a train or two of course, I elected to drive to my game and I picked one that is, as far, as I know, very difficult to do by public transport. It took me just over two hours to get here and the ground is adjacent to the village hall, not that they really need one, as this is a very small village. The changing rooms are wooden and here I bumped into the jovial home management team, who pointed me in the direction of the local pub. After my recent experience of paying £4 for a pulled pork roll at the Hampshire FA ground, I thought that I couldn’t do any worse here. I was wrong. The chilli con carne with pasta with garlic bread (two slices) for £4.50 looked tempting and when it arrived it tasted nice. Problem was that it came in a large coffee mug! Back at the ground I mentioned this to my ‘trip advisor’ who told me, “I forgot to tell you that the food’s not very good!" Perhaps the clue was that no one came around to ask me if I was enjoying my meal, possibly because I didn't give them time, as I ate it in a few mouthfuls! Anyway, by now we were ready to go and once the rotund ref had finished off his fag the game soon got underway.
