Barcelona, 19 (2013): 59-149 La col·lecció paleontològica Gómez-Alba del MGB-MCNB Jaume Gallemí1, Vicent Vicedo1, Gregori López2 i Luis Troya2 Abstract GALLEMÍ, J., VICEDO, V., LÓPEZ, G. & TROYA, L. The Gómez-Alba palaeontological collection of the MGB-MCNB. We present the catalogue of the palaeontological collection belonging to the late Dr. Julio Gómez-Alba, former curator of Palaeontology at Barcelona’s Museum of Geology, now integrated in Barcelona’s Natural History Museum Consortium. He proposed the donation of his collection to the city of Barcelona in November 2010 and the Barcelona’s Institute of Culture (ICUB) accepted it on the 11th February 2011. Formed by 4.990 specimens and 25 batches, it is not the col- lection of a palaeontological researcher but that of a general palaeontologist. Many items in this collection were figured in a field guide authored by Gómez-Alba (1988) dealing with the fossils of Spain and Europe. The catalogue is, apart from some minor corrections, the literal transcription of the database originally associated to the collection that –since its acceptation– has neither been updated nor revised. Key words: catalogue, collection, palaeontology, Gómez-Alba, MGB-MCNB. Resumen GALLEMÍ, J., VICEDO, V., LÓPEZ, G. y TROYA, L. La colección paleontológica Gómez-Alba del MGB-MCNB. Two species of Aalenian Tmetoceras have been identified on the basis of morphological, bio chronological and palaeobiogeographical data: T. scissum and T. regleyi. T. scissum was dominant among the Tmetoceras populations developed in the Betic and Lusitanian basins during Opalinum, Murchisonae and Bradfordensis biochrons. Popu lations coniposed by evolute individuals of T. scissum inhabited shelfal or oceanic envi ronments. A chronocline, from rectiradiate and primitive forms to flexicostate and derived forms, can be recognized in these populations of T. scissum. In contrast, shallow epiconti nental platforms were inhabited by involute individuals of T. regleyi. This second species was phyletically derived from T. scissum, representing an adaptive radiation from popula tions of shelfal or oceanic basins to populations of epicontinental platforms. The three lowest subzones of the Upper Lias occur in the top 1 m of the Marlstone Rock Bed. This is overlain by the Transition Bed of Semicelatum Subzone age and the Abnormal Fish Bed of Exaratum Subzone age.

SINEMURIAN (EARLY JURASSIC) STRATIGRAPHY AT LAST CREEK, BRITISH COLUMBIA AND FIVE CARD DRAW, NEVADA: PALEONTOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS by PENGFEI HOU M.Sc., China University of Petroleum (Beijing), 2012 B.Sc., China University of Geosciences (Beijing), 2009 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE in THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES (Geological Sciences) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Vancouver) August 2014 © Pengfei Hou, 2014 ABSTRACT Over 400 ammonite specimens were collected from the Last Creek Formation in Last Creek, British Columbia and the Sunrise Formation in Five Card Draw, Nevada. A detailed taxonomic study from the Involutum Zone to the lower part of the Harbledownense Zone of the Sinemurian is presented. At least 38 species are identified and described, distributed amongst 15 genera and 5 families. Three species are introduced as new: Tipperoceras n. sp. A, Tmaegoceras obesus n. sp., Arnioceras n. sp. A. Also, Echioceratidae gen. et sp. indet. is tentatively introduced as a new species and genus. The following zones of the current Sinemurian zonation for western North America (Taylor et al., 2001) can be recognized, based on the stratigraphical distribution of the taxa identified, namely the Involutum, Leslei, Carinatum and Harbledownense zones in ascending order. The Jamesi Zone placed between the last two by Taylor et al. (2001) cannot be recognized in the study areas in either Canada or the United States and therefore it is removed from the current zonation scheme. A revised zonation and definition of the zones, with precise correlation to the primary standard northwest European zonation, are provided.

ABSTRACT - A detailed biostratigraphic study based on ammonites and calcareous nannofossils was carried out in the Colle d'Orlando section (Centra! ltaly). This succession is characterized by a regular alternance o/ marly and limestone levels, Toarcian in age. Fifty seven Ammonite assemblages belonging to seven biozones, seven subzones and one biohorizon were recognized. They comprise all the Toarcian Standard Ammonite Zones with the exception o/the Bonarellii Zone. The ammonite assemblages exhibit a Mediterranean affinity. Severa! calcareous nannofossil events are recognized in the Late Domerian to Early Bajocian o/the Colle d'Orlando section and some con- siderations regarding the assemblaf{.e composition and preservation state are presented here. The continuous and relatively abundant record o/ ammonites and calcareous nannojossils allows far an integrated biostratigraphy and a precise correlation o/ calcareous nannofossil events to ammonite biohorizons.

Geologica Romana 37 (2003-2004), 1-66 LATE TOARCIAN - LATE AALENIAN AMMONITES ASSEMBLAGE FROM MT. Magaggiaro (Trapani). The specimens were collected from a pocket filled by multiple polymetal- lic crusts and stromatolites and sandwiched between shallow-water platform sediments (carbonates of the Sciacca Formation and Inici Formation) and overlying pelagic deposits (limestones and marly limestones - the Ammonitico Rosso Formation). All the specimens (145 representing 29 genera, 3 subgenera, 39 species and 15 subspecies) have normal species size; adult specimens of large dimensions are also present. The ammonites are very well preserved, someones with iridescent shells. The species range from the Meneghinii Zone to the Concavum Zone (Late Toarcian-Late Aalenian). The assemblage is very similar to that collected by Vacek (1886) and De Gregorio (1886 b), differing however for the presence of many Phylloceratids, rare at Cape San Vigilio, whereas other forms (Dumortieria spp. and Polyplectus spp.), abundant in Sicily, lack at Cape San Vigilio. Oppelids are not present in Sicily. A seaway probably existed, connecting the two areas (today > 1000 km apart) and allowing for an unconstrained pattern of areal distribution of ammonite species.
