E-mail: [email protected] Dedicated to the memory of Serge Elmi and René Mouterde “en très amical hommage et en souvenir des journées passées ensemble à chercher les ammonites de la Catena del Catria”. Abstract This paper describes ammonites collected from some outcrops of Catria Mts (Central Apennines). The taxa discussed are Phylloceras, Holcophylloceras, Lytoceras, Alocolytoceras, Tmetoceras, Leioceras, Ludwigia, Brasilia, Graphoceras, Bredyia, Euaptetoceras, Planammatoceras, Erycites, Abbasitoides, Fontannesia, Zurcheria, Riccardiceras. In particular, Erycites (macroconchs) and Abbasitoides (microconchs) have two stages of growth, the first involute with a depressed section and the second evolute with a compressed section. Hence, these stages are divided by a short stage showing an isodimensional section. By means of an analytic research it is possible to demonstrate the progressive transition of this section from large to little sizes during the Aalenian. These ontogenetic developments followed a specialized direction leading to the whorls of Riccardiceras. Keywords Ammonites, morphometry, ontogeny, biostratigraphy, Aalenian, Central Apennines. I taxa esaminati sono Phylloceras, Holcophylloceras, Lytoceras, Alocolytoceras, Tmetoceras, Leioceras, Ludwigia, Brasilia, Graphoceras, Bredyia, Euaptetoceras, Planammatoceras, Erycites, Abbasitoides, Fontannesia, Zurcheria, Riccardiceras. Swiss J Palaeontol (2020) 139:9 https://doi.org/10.1186/s13358-020-00210-y Swiss Journal of Palaeontology RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access First record of non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks from the latest Cretaceous of Eurytania, Greece Christian Klug1* , Donald Davesne2,3, Dirk Fuchs4 and Thodoris Argyriou5 Abstract Due to the lower fossilization potential of chitin, non-mineralized cephalopod jaws and arm hooks are much more rarely preserved as fossils than the calcitic lower jaws of ammonites or the calcitized jaw apparatuses of nautilids. Here, we report such non-mineralized fossil jaws and arm hooks from pelagic marly limestones of continental Greece. Two of the specimens lie on the same slab and are assigned to the Ammonitina; they represent upper jaws of the aptychus type, which is corroborated by fnds of aptychi. Additionally, one intermediate type and one anaptychus type are documented here. The morphology of all ammonite jaws suggest a desmoceratoid afnity. The other jaws are identifed as coleoid jaws. They share the overall U-shape and proportions of the outer and inner lamellae with Jurassic lower jaws of Trachyteuthis (Teudopseina). We also document the frst belemnoid arm hooks from the Tethyan Maastrichtian. The fossils described here document the presence of a typical Mesozoic cephalopod assemblage until the end of the Cretaceous in the eastern Tethys. The Gómez-Alba palaeontological collection of the MGB-MCNB. We present the catalogue of the palaeontological collection belonging to the late Dr. Julio Gómez-Alba, former curator of Palaeontology at Barcelona’s Museum of Geology, now integrated in Barcelona’s Natural History Museum Consortium. He proposed the donation of his collection to the city of Barcelona in November 2010 and the Barcelona’s Institute of Culture (ICUB) accepted it on the 11th February 2011. Formed by 4.990 specimens and 25 batches, it is not the col- lection of a palaeontological researcher but that of a general palaeontologist. Many items in this collection were figured in a field guide authored by Gómez-Alba (1988) dealing with the fossils of Spain and Europe. The catalogue is, apart from some minor corrections, the literal transcription of the database originally associated to the collection that –since its acceptation– has neither been updated nor revised. Key words: catalogue, collection, palaeontology, Gómez-Alba, MGB-MCNB. Resumen GALLEMÍ, J., VICEDO, V., LÓPEZ, G. y TROYA, L. La colección paleontológica Gómez-Alba del MGB-MCNB. Two species of Aalenian Tmetoceras have been identified on the basis of morphological, bio chronological and palaeobiogeographical data: T. scissum and T. regleyi. T. scissum was dominant among the Tmetoceras populations developed in the Betic and Lusitanian basins during Opalinum, Murchisonae and Bradfordensis biochrons. Popu lations coniposed by evolute individuals of T. scissum inhabited shelfal or oceanic envi ronments. A chronocline, from rectiradiate and primitive forms to flexicostate and derived forms, can be recognized in these populations of T. scissum. In contrast, shallow epiconti nental platforms were inhabited by involute individuals of T. regleyi. This second species was phyletically derived from T. scissum, representing an adaptive radiation from popula tions of shelfal or oceanic basins to populations of epicontinental platforms. The studied 276 successive recorded ammonite assemblages allowed detailed biostratigraphical subdivision and the correlation of the sections at the ammonite zone and subzone scale. The foraminifers were studied in 96 samples and 55 diagenetically screened belemnite rostra were analyzed for C and 0 isotope. Keywords: Facies and thickness distribution of the Aalenian sediments suggest that deposition took place in a nearly Palaeoc1imate symmetrical sub-basin included into an intra plate shallow platform, developed over continental crust, on Biotic changes Foraminifers which flexure was the main control responsible for subsidence and basin evolution. Ammonoids Noteworthy negative 613Cb1 excursions, coinciding with seawater temperature changes, were recorded Stable isotopes during the Bradfordensis Biochron, around the Concavum-Limitatum biochron boundary, and around the Paiaeoceanography Aalenian-Bajocian boundary. A close relationship between the changes in seawater temperature and the biotic changes observed in the foraminiferal and in the ammonoids assemblages has been evidenced. During the Comptum Biochron, the 61801-based palaeotemperature shows a remarkable cooling interval with an average seawater temperature of 15.7 QC.

The Graphoceratid Ammonite Succession in the Aalenian and lowest Bajocian (Middle Jurassic) at Horn Park, Dorset, UK ROBERT B. CHANDLER Riddlesdown High School, Purley, Surrey, CR8 lEX Summary In 1990 Callomon and Chandler set out a scheme of 16 faunal horizons for the Aalenian-Lower Bajocian of Dorset and Somerset based principally on graphoceratid ammonites. One locality, Horn Park, stands apart in displaying strata from almost all the horizons identified in that work. Yet little material from it has ever been figured. Here a section is given together with exhaustive tables of existing nominal morphospecies collected at each level and with figures that allow the variability of the suc- cessive, probably in most cases, monobiospecific assemblages to be assessed. A revised generic classification of the Graphoceratidae is presented. them precludes almost any satisfactory discussion of phyletic relationships and hence of the overall evolution The highly discontinuous, condensed and rapidly of the group. varying development of the Inferior Oolite in southern England was first perceived by S.S.
