The aim of this paper is to document the ammonite fauna of the upper part of the Late Tithonian collected at the key section of Le Chouet (Drôme, SE France). Emphasis is laid on new and poorly known Ataxioceratidae, Himalayitidae and Neocomitidae from the upper part of the Tithonian. Among the Ataxioceratidae, a new account on the taxonomy and relationship between Paraulacosphinctes Schindewolf and Moravisphinctes Tavera is presented. Regarding the Himalayitidae, the range and content of Micracanthoceras Spath is discussed and two new genera are introduced: Ardesciella gen. nov., for a group of Mediterranean ammonites that is homoeomorphic with the Andean genus Corongoceras Spath, and Pratumidiscus gen. nov. for a specimen that shows morphological similarities with the Boreal genera Riasanites Spath and Riasanella Mitta. Finally, the occurrence of Neocomitidae in the uppermost Tithonian is documented by the presence of the reputedly Berriasian genera Busnardoiceras Tavera and Pseudargentiniceras Spath. These beds reach their greatest thickness in depressions between topographic highs and thin towards, and finally disappear on, the crests. The early Late Kimmeridgian graded packstone–bindstone alternations represent the earliest plattenkalk occurrence in southern Germany. The undisturbed lamination of the sediment strongly points to oxygen-free conditions on the seafloor and within the sediment, inimical to higher forms of life. The plattenkalk contains a diverse biota of benthic and nektonic organisms. Excavation of a 13 cm thick plattenkalk unit across an area of 80 m2 produced 3500 fossils, which, with the exception of the bivalve Aulacomyella, exhibit a random stratigraphic distribution. Two-thirds of the individuals had a benthic mode of life attached to hard substrate. This seems to contradict the evidence of oxygen-free conditions on the sea floor, such as undisturbed lamination, presence of articulated skeletons, and preservation of soft parts. -

ABSTRACT This study �ocuses on the lower Aptian desmoceratid �auna o� Oliete sub-basin (Teruel province). The systematic revision o� these biostratigraphy well constrained ammonites, allowed us to work on two issues. On the fist place, we improved the systematic and taxonomic knowledge about Pseudosaynella raresulcata (d’Orbigny, 1841), Pseudosaynella bicurvata (Michelin, 1838) and Pseudohaploceras liptoviensis (Zeuschner, 1856) whose definitions, previous to this study, were based on scarce material and �ew studies on their ontoge- netic variation. On a second place, we constrained their stratigraphical ranges, especially �or the Pseudosaynella species, and their correlation with the lower Aptian standard ammonite Mediterranean zonation. For the first time the pro-ostracum was observed in the first camerae of the phragmocone. The presence of a pro-ostracum in early shell ontogeny supports Naef”s opinion (1922) that belemnites had an internal skeleton during their entire ontogeny, starting from the earliest post-hatching stages. This interpretation has been previously questioned by several writers. The outer and inner surfaces of the juvenile pro-ostracum were studied. The gross morphology of these surfaces is similar to that at adult ontogenetic stages. Median sections reveal that the pro-ostracum consists of three thin layers: an inner and an outer prismatic layer separated by a fine lamellar, predominantly organic layer. These layers extend from the dorsal side of the conotheca to the ventral side. The information obtained herein confirms the idea that the pro-ostracum represents a structure not present in the shell of ectocochleate cephalopods (Doguzhaeva, 1999, Doguzhaeva et al. -

The studied 276 successive recorded ammonite assemblages allowed detailed biostratigraphical subdivision and the correlation of the sections at the ammonite zone and subzone scale. The foraminifers were studied in 96 samples and 55 diagenetically screened belemnite rostra were analyzed for C and 0 isotope. A.) Pedro Patarroyo1 RESUMEN La sección de la quebrada Bambucá (Aipe - Huila) posee una buena exposición de los depósitos del Cretácico del Valle Superior del Magdalena. De la parte alta de la Formación Hondita se recolectaron Acanthoceras sp. y Rhynchostreon sp. del Cenomaniano superior. Dentro del segmento inferior de la Formación Loma Gorda se hallaron Choffaticeras (C.) cf. segne, Fagesia cf. catinus, Neoptychites cf. andinus, Mitonia gracilis, Morrowites sp., Nannovascoceras ? sp., Quitmaniceras ? sp., Benueites ? sp. junto con Mytiloides kossmati, M. goppelnensis y Anomia sp. del Turoniano inferior. Estratigráficamente arriba aparecen Paramammites ? sp., Hoplitoides sp. H. ingens, H. cf. lagiraldae, Codazziceras ospinae, Allocrioceras sp., que pueden estar representando entre el Turoniano inferior y medio. Para la parte alta de este segmento se encontraron Prionocycloceras sp. P. guayabanum, Reesidites subtuberculatum, Subprionotropis colombianus, Mytiloides scupini, Dydimotis sp., Gauthiericeras sp., Anagaudryceras ? sp., Eulophoceras jacobi, Paralenticeras sieversi, Hauericeras cf. madagascarensis, Peroniceras (P.) subtricarinatum, Forresteria (F.) sp., Barroisiceras cf. onilahyense, Ankinatsytes venezolanus que abarcan entre el Turoniano superior y el Coniaciano. Con base en la fauna colectada no es posible establecer los límites Cenomaniano/Turoniano y Turoniano/Coniaciano.
