Barcelona, 19 (2013): 59-149 La col·lecció paleontològica Gómez-Alba del MGB-MCNB Jaume Gallemí1, Vicent Vicedo1, Gregori López2 i Luis Troya2 Abstract GALLEMÍ, J., VICEDO, V., LÓPEZ, G. & TROYA, L. The Gómez-Alba palaeontological collection of the MGB-MCNB. We present the catalogue of the palaeontological collection belonging to the late Dr. Julio Gómez-Alba, former curator of Palaeontology at Barcelona’s Museum of Geology, now integrated in Barcelona’s Natural History Museum Consortium. He proposed the donation of his collection to the city of Barcelona in November 2010 and the Barcelona’s Institute of Culture (ICUB) accepted it on the 11th February 2011. Formed by 4.990 specimens and 25 batches, it is not the col- lection of a palaeontological researcher but that of a general palaeontologist. Many items in this collection were figured in a field guide authored by Gómez-Alba (1988) dealing with the fossils of Spain and Europe. The catalogue is, apart from some minor corrections, the literal transcription of the database originally associated to the collection that –since its acceptation– has neither been updated nor revised. Key words: catalogue, collection, palaeontology, Gómez-Alba, MGB-MCNB. Resumen GALLEMÍ, J., VICEDO, V., LÓPEZ, G. y TROYA, L. La colección paleontológica Gómez-Alba del MGB-MCNB. Two species of Aalenian Tmetoceras have been identified on the basis of morphological, bio chronological and palaeobiogeographical data: T. scissum and T. regleyi. T. scissum was dominant among the Tmetoceras populations developed in the Betic and Lusitanian basins during Opalinum, Murchisonae and Bradfordensis biochrons. Popu lations coniposed by evolute individuals of T. scissum inhabited shelfal or oceanic envi ronments. A chronocline, from rectiradiate and primitive forms to flexicostate and derived forms, can be recognized in these populations of T. scissum. In contrast, shallow epiconti nental platforms were inhabited by involute individuals of T. regleyi. This second species was phyletically derived from T. scissum, representing an adaptive radiation from popula tions of shelfal or oceanic basins to populations of epicontinental platforms. The three lowest subzones of the Upper Lias occur in the top 1 m of the Marlstone Rock Bed. This is overlain by the Transition Bed of Semicelatum Subzone age and the Abnormal Fish Bed of Exaratum Subzone age.

Lower and Middle Jurassic ammonoids of the Shemshak Group in Alborz, Iran and their palaeobiogeographical and biostratigraphical importance. Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 53 (2): 237–260. The Shemshak Group at Shahmirzad (northern Iran) is characterized by the most frequent and extensive marine intercala− tions and contains the most abundant and diverse ammonite faunas hitherto known from the Lower and lower Middle Ju− rassic strata of the Alborz Range. So far, 62 ammonite taxa have been recorded from this area, including 25 taxa from ear− lier studies. The taxa belong to the families Cymbitidae, Echioceratidae, Amaltheidae, Dactylioceratidae, Hildoceratidae, Graphoceratidae, Hammatoceratidae, Erycitidae, and Stephanoceratidae with the new species Paradumortieria elmii and Pleydellia (P.?) ruttneri. The fauna represents the Late Sinemurian, Late Pliensbachian, Toarcian, Aalenian, and Early Bajocian. Palaeobiogeographically, it is closely related to the Northwest European (Subboreal) Province, and exhibits only minor relations with the Mediterranean (Tethyan) Province. Geodiversitas 38 (4): 505-513. https://doi.org/10.5252/g2016n4a3 ABSTRACT Th e Toarcian ammonite genus Porpoceras Buckman, 1911 is a cosmopolitan taxon with an uncertain stratigraphic range. Th e oldest known occurrence of the genus was reported from the Falciferum Subzone (Early Toarcian) in Morocco, although based on a unique specimen whose taxonomic assignment to the genus Porpoceras remains doubtful. Th e youngest occurrence was a simple mention of Porpoceras sp. from the Variabilis Subzone (Middle Toarcian) of the Th ouars area (Western France), but it was later regarded as doubtful because no specimen was fi gured. We here provide the fi rst robust evidence for the youngest known occurrence of the genus Porpoceras, from the Variabilis Subzone of the Th ouars area. Th e known revised stratigraphic range of the genus therefore extends from the Falciferum Subzone to the Variabilis Subzone.

SINEMURIAN (EARLY JURASSIC) STRATIGRAPHY AT LAST CREEK, BRITISH COLUMBIA AND FIVE CARD DRAW, NEVADA: PALEONTOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL IMPLICATIONS by PENGFEI HOU M.Sc., China University of Petroleum (Beijing), 2012 B.Sc., China University of Geosciences (Beijing), 2009 A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE in THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE AND POSTDOCTORAL STUDIES (Geological Sciences) THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA (Vancouver) August 2014 © Pengfei Hou, 2014 ABSTRACT Over 400 ammonite specimens were collected from the Last Creek Formation in Last Creek, British Columbia and the Sunrise Formation in Five Card Draw, Nevada. A detailed taxonomic study from the Involutum Zone to the lower part of the Harbledownense Zone of the Sinemurian is presented. At least 38 species are identified and described, distributed amongst 15 genera and 5 families. Three species are introduced as new: Tipperoceras n. sp. A, Tmaegoceras obesus n. sp., Arnioceras n. sp. A. Also, Echioceratidae gen. et sp. indet. is tentatively introduced as a new species and genus. The following zones of the current Sinemurian zonation for western North America (Taylor et al., 2001) can be recognized, based on the stratigraphical distribution of the taxa identified, namely the Involutum, Leslei, Carinatum and Harbledownense zones in ascending order. The Jamesi Zone placed between the last two by Taylor et al. (2001) cannot be recognized in the study areas in either Canada or the United States and therefore it is removed from the current zonation scheme. A revised zonation and definition of the zones, with precise correlation to the primary standard northwest European zonation, are provided.

Keywords: Gaetani Level; Oceanic Anoxic Event; early Bajocian; stable isotopes. Abstract. In this paper we document in detail the transition from the Rosso Ammonitico Lombardo to the Radiolarites outcropping at Alpe Turati (Albavilla, Como) in the Lombardy Basin of the Southern Alps. At this loca- tion, the Jurassic succession was deposited on a flank of the Corni di Canzo paleohigh: as found on other structural shallow areas, the upper Pliensbachian–Toarcian–Aalenian interval is represented by pseudonodular to nodular marly limestones of the Morbio Limestone and Rosso Ammonitico Lombardo units. In the early Bajocian deposition of biosiliceous sediments is ubiquitously testified by the Radiolarites (Bajocian–Callovian). At Alpe Turati, the interval immediately below the basal green member of the latter unit, consists of a 10 cm thick black shale, pointing to oxygen-depleted bottom waters. Dysoxia persisted during the Bajocian–Callovian as evidenced by dark green stratified cherts. Calcareous nannofossil biostratigraphy indicate an early Bajocian age for the black shale that correlates with the core of a distinct C isotopic negative anomaly also known in various basins outside the Southern Alps.
